Motivation Mondays: Thanksgiving Wishes
“Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Suddenly, so many things become so little when we realize how blessed and lucky we are.” Joyce Giraud

The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest. William Blake
I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. Henry David Thoreau
Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. Oprah Winfrey
What Are You Thankful For? Around this time last year, I was battling a nasty cold that ended up turning into pneumonia and almost killed me. I spent a week in the hospital and needed intravenous fluids because I was dehydrated from not breathing in enough oxygen to keep my organs fully functioning. The scary part is that I thought I had a manageable cold that over the counter meds could handle. I was wrong; my kids saved my life by telling me I sounded a lot worse than I intimated and that I needed to get to the hospital ASAP. My point is that this is the season to be super careful about our health and those pesky colds. Don’t take them lightly. EVER! That said, I am thankful/grateful for the gift of life. Everything begins and ends with it. The flu/cold season is upon us and we must make sure that we take the best care of our bodies and encourage loved ones to do same.
As Thanksgiving Day beckons, I am reminded to express joy for the simplest things that make me thankful for each breath I take. I look around me and see the sparkle in people’s eyes and the hopefulness shared by others for a happy event. I look out my living room window and see some snowfall from last Thursday’s terrible sudden snowstorm and I marvel at how we all survived it. There are many colorful leaves that have fallen off the trees in my yard. The white, purple, red and orange/gold hues pull me in and, for a moment, I am swept away to a place of deep joy and gratitude. As we all prepare to enjoy our thanksgiving meals , let’s not forget these important Thanksgiving Tips: Share our Thanksgiving History/Heritage, Give thanks/Be grateful, Practice food safety, and Gather informative, helpful travel tips. Practice patience, gratitude and forgiveness and Have a Happy Thanksgiving week ahead!

WHAT AM I THANKFUL FOR?
My recipe of thanks will have …
A vat full of love,
Endless cups of life,
Pounds and ounces of friends,
100 ladles of family,
9 tablespoons of health,
1 teaspoon from home,
Sprinkles from everyone,
Bowls of everything that uplifts humanity,
Carefully fold in scoops of our pets,
Mix in the power of prayer and
Add God’s immutable grace…

Thanksgiving Day is a good day to recommit our energies to giving thanks and just giving. Amy Grant
How are YOU planning to celebrate Thanksgiving? Each year, we participate in volunteer opportunities that provide food and aid to the homeless. This can be a very trying time for folks who have no loved ones around, and it can also be a time of heightened depression for others who have lost dear ones. So, why not use this time to reach out to anyone we know who is hurting and spread some love and cheer. How else can we be of service during this joyful season? We can start by thinking of our troops, the sick, the destitute, our friends and family who are traveling or are away. We can start by reaching out to others who are alone during this time of celebration. We can volunteer our time to helping out where a need is greatest and spread some of our heartfelt message of love and goodwill.
Seize Each Moment to say THANK YOU! Last week, we honored our servicemen/women and all who have made our lives comfortable and safe by saying THANK YOU. We should seize the opportunity to say Thank YOU at every moment we get. A week or so before 9/11, I was driving up to Hunter College to teach one of my classes. As I made a turn to head to the east side from midtown Manhattan, I saw a group of firemen gathered in front of an apartment building. They were holding a ladder and, perhaps, were on their way to rescue something or someone. My heart surged with admiration for those members of New York’s bravest, and I felt this sudden urge to pull over and run over and say “Hey, thank you for saving lives every day!”
As I maneuvered my car in traffic, looking for a spot to pull over, my brain kicked in: “What!? Are you mad? Do you think they have time for such rubbish? Keep on driving!” Again, a gentle voice within said, “Go for it. Why not? Make them smile. How many times do drivers pull over in midtown, hop out of their car to just say Thank you!?” As I went back and forth in my head, I panicked, lost my mojo, and debated myself out of a spontaneous act of goodwill and gratitude. A few days later, 9/11 happened and I was devastated. Till this day, I wonder if any of the firemen I saw that late fall afternoon were lost in that horrific act of violence against humanity. Say THANK YOU! today. Now. Every day. Honor loved ones and service providers by being grateful, by offering help to others in need, by remembering the sick, weak and suffering in our daily reflections, and by showing our gratitude through verbal expressions and acts of selfless love. A simple THANK YOU goes a long way.

What does Thanksgiving Mean to YOU? Whether you’ve had a prosperous, abundant year or a challenging year, one thing is certain, this is the season of Thanksgiving! It is a special time to pull ourselves and our loved ones close together and give thanks for the good we have seen and enjoyed around us. Thanksgiving is, for me, a time of reflection and reevaluation of what truly matters in our lives. It is a time to take stock of our successes and foibles and find a path to healing old wounds. Part of the history of this special holiday revolves around the gathering of the best harvested foods and sharing a meal with family, friends, and even foes. It is a time to show appreciation to our neighbors; this includes our global human family. So, this Happy Thanksgiving season can be a time to set aside old battles, make peace in your heart with those who have wronged us and move on. Of course, we must also remember that an important part of the holiday is to make it a time to share what we have by giving to those who have less.
Don’t Forget to say Thank You! Every year, I stop to contemplate what each Thanksgiving year has given me, and I am grateful for the good and the harsh lessons too. I reflect on the good/bad of the months before and on the blessings in the months to come and I say my thanks to my Creator and all the people who’ve contributed good to my life. I’d love to say Thank You to my readers, to all who stop by to comment or just read this blog, to friends and family online and off, to my fellow bloggers, various Sponsors, WordPress staffers and happiness engineers, my social media and Facebook groups friends, friends in various communities, and everyone out there. Sending Happy Thanksgiving wishes to everyone!

Haiku: Happy Thanksgiving In Ten Takes…
Thanksgiving by Edgar Albert Guest
Gettin’ together to smile an’ rejoice,
An’ eatin’ an’ laughin’ with folks of your choice;
An’ kissin’ the girls an’ declarin’ that they
Are growin’ more beautiful day after day;
Chattin’ an’ braggin’ a bit with the men,
Buildin’ the old family circle again;
Livin’ the wholesome an’ old-fashioned cheer,
Just for awhile at the end of the year.
Greetings fly fast as we crowd through the door
And under the old roof we gather once more
Just as we did when the youngsters were small;
Mother’s a little bit grayer, that’s all.
Father’s a little bit older, but still
Ready to romp an’ to laugh with a will.
Here we are back at the table again
Tellin’ our stories as women an’ men.
Bowed are our heads for a moment in prayer;
Oh, but we’re grateful an’ glad to be there.
Home from the east land an’ home from the west,
Home with the folks that are dearest an’ best.
Out of the sham of the cities afar
We’ve come for a time to be just what we are.
Here we can talk of ourselves an’ be frank,
Forgettin’ position an’ station an’ rank.
Give me the end of the year an’ its fun
When most of the plannin’ an’ toilin’ is done;
Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,
Let me sit down with the ones I love best,
Hear the old voices still ringin’ with song,
See the old faces unblemished by wrong,
See the old table with all of its chairs
An’ I’ll put soul in my Thanksgivin’ prayers via famouspoetsandpoems

I am thankful for every sunrise. The first thing I do after I wake up is to thank God for giving me one more day to live and bask in the blessings He has given me. I have a roof over my head, food on the table and clothes to wear. I am blessed. I am thankful.
That is so beautiful… Thank you!
What a lovely post, I love this time of year of family and enjoying being with your family
It is a great time for reflection
What a great post! Loved all the thngs to be thankful for and appreciated the quotes and poems! We’re not big into celebrating thanksigiving as immigrants to america but we definitely use it as a time of gratitude
Great… that is important.
Our Sunday morning sermons in church talked about gratitude. So this year for thanksgiving I will be thinking more specific of what I need ot be thankful for.
We all need to do some thinking fr sure. 🙂
You are very welcome; I am both your reader, and a Veteran! I love Edgar’s poem! I know it is cliche to start contemplating on all the things we are grateful for, but November has it’s way of just bringing that about. It is pretty cool to just look at loved ones all around and really “get” why we should be thankful! OK, holiday emotional rant over. I needed this Motivation Monday, THANKS!
Hahaha. THANK YOU Jeannette! You have served this country well. <3
I love the way you celebrate holidays and special days. I am just grateful for personal and spiritual growth.
I hate to hear that you were sick. It’s no fun getting that sick. I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, I am thankful to simply be alive.
Thank you so much…much love to you and yours!
Happy Thanksgiving! I love this holiday! A day set aside to thank the Lord for all He has given us! Hope you have a great holiday.
I seriously luved tha hardwork and beautiful post of Thanksgiving to a person who we love..You have created very beautifully..
I’m sorry to hear that you suffered last year, definitely thankful for life this year. Happy Thanksgiving for this week x
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, it is a must to be grateful to all those people who are responsible for what we are today.
Living in England we don’t have Thanksgiving but I love the idea of it. My best friend is from Chicago and now lives here so she celebrates and I would love to go round one day and experience it.
Blessed are those who give back.
Just like you, I am planning to give out food to homeless children. It is my advocacy yearly.
WHAT DOES THANKSGIVING MEAN TO ME? – Giving back.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thanksgiving is not celebrated in my country and I believe it’s an American tradition only. However, I believe that we should thank the people around us more often, not only one day a year. We should also give and appreciate more often, not on specific days only.
I agree but it doesn’t hurt to celebrate it as an occasion.
I always love to celebrate Thanksgiving day not only because of those delicious food but also you are having a chance to spend your day with your family and aside from that you are able to give or offer a deep Thanksgiving to the provider of everything that we have.
I agree…. for those who never stop to to think about being grateful for what is,this is a great opportunity
I love that you are grateful for the harsh lessons too. Every experience shapes us and it’s good to see the positives in that x
Indeed… sometimes, it is the harsh lessons that teach us about humanity and trust and the lack thereof…
I dont celebrate Thanksgiving in my country (Spain) but I think it’s a nice celebration to be sincere with each others and being grateful for what we have in our life. But would be amazing being like this the whole year, not only one day.
I think stopping to think about what you are thankful for is so important!
This is so needed right now. I am needing to change my views on Thanksgiving. It hasn’t been a day of thanks in the past.
Hi Liz, hope you get better soon! I’m grateful for my family, friends and my accomplishments! Wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Nice poem about things to be thankful for. I really think we should all practice gratitude on a daily basis. I am thankful for the friends, family, health, and talents I am blessed to enjoy and employ on a daily basis. Thanks for the words of inspiration.
I love your “recipe”. We try hard in this house to show and voice what we are thankful for on a daily basis, but Thanksgiving is always a good time to serve as a reminder that we have so much to be thankful for. I also love that you are thankful for the harsher lessons and not just the simple things. You can learn so much from the hard things in our life.
Beautiful. It’s so important to practice gratitude. I’ve started a daily gratitude journal and it’s really helping to create positivity in my life.
I love your idea of Recipe of Thanks. Sometimes we forget to throw in love during the holidays. Just appreciating each other’s company is enough.
I love how we call come together during the holidays, like thanksgiving to share how thankful we are for eachother.
I’m thankful for sprinkles from everyone too! You made me hungry for thanksgiving food though!
Wow. Your story about 9/11 and remembering to say thank you is a huge reminder to us all.
This was my motivation Monday on a Wednesday! Life is full of struggles that can help us turn towards a grateful heart. Thank you for writing to us. I am sure you will write to people who you will never know you effect. Gracias!
Thanksgiving is such a blessed holiday. I really like it’s theme and emotions. Surely we should be thankful for what we have all year round but it’s better than nothing to have a special time of the year. My culture has none and it is obviously needed,
Your thoughts about Thanksgiving even though we don’t celebrate it as muslim I can relate to it. Indeed we have to be grateful even to each and every little things we have. Even if it’s a problem or struggle you’re experiencing because this will lead to a change of your life and who knows it’s for the better and if not there maybe something else is there. Be positive always.
I am always a fan of your motivational monday posts. Keep on doing this!
Everyday is thanksgiving for me and I don’t need a commercial holiday for that. Everyday should be thanksgiving for us all as we’ve made it this far in the year and our lives.
What a lovely post full of things to be thankful for. I am thankful for our donor and their family who gifted my husband with a new heart and saved his life. 🙂
We don’t have a Thanksgiving tradition in my home country and my knowledge of the holiday comes from the media. What we do have is a tradition of giving thanks daily to our Creator for the good and the bad in our lives. I think it’s good to have a day of focussed thanks for the people who impact our lives and make it better, so tomorrow I will remember to show gratitude and thankfulness to them.
I always strive to be thankful at whatever happens to me.Thankfulness helps us to be appreciative of every moment in life and hence we remain positive despite our circumstances…
This is an outstanding collection of thoughts, images and quotes. I’m thankful for all the “food for thought” you have given me!
xx Luci
I wish that Thanksgiving is in there in my country because sometimes or maybe not give thank for the person who does the good for us. And really love about this article! Happy Thanksgiving!
Aside from my kids birthday, Thanksgiving is my most favorite day to celebrate because I was able to have a one full day of spending time with my family and offering Thanksgiving to God for all the blessing that received for the whole year.
I’m so glad you recovered from your pneumonia. My health is something I am grateful for everyday. I am thankful for you and all of the positive energy you put into the world.
This is a special time for us to give and show gratitude not only to those people who made good things with us but most especially to God who made it all possible.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I love to get together with my family and enjoy good food while we count our blessings! It also marks the start to the most wonderful time of the year! 🙂
We all have so much to be thankful. Wishing you such a wonderful holiday my dear!
Happy Thanksgiving for today! Hope you have a fantastic day x
I don’t know too much about thanksgiving so this has been a real insight, thank you.
We don’t actually celebrate thanksgiving in the UK but it’s so important to think about what you’re thankful for. I’m thankful for my host family, my actual family and all the people I’ve met over the years.
This is the first year we haven’t helped homeless people on Thanksgiving. We will for Christmas. We will miss helping this year too, things are just a bit different than usual. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
This Thanksgiving season I am most grateful for the health of my family. No one had a hospital stay and everyone is feeling well. That’s like a breath of fresh air to me overall.
I love your motivation mondays posts! I am so thankful for many many blessings but especially being surrounded by amazing people. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.
Chad
I love how Nigel Hamilton define the Thanksgiving and I agree with what he said that Thanksgiving is the time of togetherness and gratitude. Togetherness because family and friends are reunited and showing their gratitude for what you have and even the simple things.
Ah I think we should all be grateful for the events in our life, good and bad. I am so sad at the hard times I have been through but I am grateful for the lessons they taught me.
Your articles are so very enlightening. And this one too. In these busy times such thoughts make you sit back and look at the purpose of our life.
We celebrate Thanksgiving with family. It doesn’t matter where we are, as long as we are with family. This year, we met my parents in the Florida Panhandle at a condo to spend the week together.
We are heading off to my dad’s today for Thanksgiving. I am so thankful to have my family to share holidays with, even though it always makes for a challenging conversation or two. (Yay, politics)
What a lovely post. Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for life and all it brings. Enjoy the season.
I am thankful for the life that was given me. It is not perfect, but at least I have the most wonderful family and we face our challenges together. On Thanksgiving, we prefer to celebrate simply. Togetherness is more important, whether we are sharing a simple meal or a feast.
Always good to have something and be thankful. Moments to be thankful for all we have and praying hoping for more. Happy Holidays and festivities to you and your.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. This is the most especial day I have been waiting for each year aside from Christmas and New year. It is really a great day to celebrate together with our family.
I’m thankful for my loving friends and family. For all the abilities, opportunities and blessings that God has gifted me with!
I give thanks for everyone I love, and every opportunity that the world’s given me. I’m grateful for what I’m going to accomplish! Thanksgiving is a great time 🙂
When I start feeling down – there is nothing like counting my blessings and giving thanks for what I do have to make me realize, just how blessed I am. love the post, what a great reminder!
This was my first year hosting my in-laws for Thanksgiving. I’ve hosted friendsgiving for years but I felt like this year I moved up to the big leagues.
Happy Thanksgiving. We all have loads of things to be grateful for and we should express gratitude every single day
I live a blessed life with health and I am extremely thankful for my family! My daughter and husband make my life full and my passions give it spice.
I believe giving thanks should be done everyday. We are blessed with God’s graces everyday but we fail to see it. I am forever thankful for the love and guidance He provides and for blessing me with a family who loves me despite my flaws.
I have a lot of things that I need to be thankful and one of them is for the life that I have everyday. On this Thanksgiving I am wishing to have peace and harmony in everyone’s heart and in this world.
I am so grateful not only for all the good things but also to those bad things happened because of that it makes me strong and brave everyday.
Seize the moment, be thankful to everything you possess.Everyday can be my thanksgiving day.
This is such a very important day of my life because this is the day were family comes together to offer their Thanksgiving to God and to their love ones.
We don’t celebrate thanksgiving but I already experience how to celebrate it when I travel in the US 2 years ago. I love the tradition and how it made each family complete.
I literally love thanksgiving. I love the gratefulness that pours around and I love the family and the I love the food.
Gratitude and Thanksgiving is so important and a lovely idea, I wish we did it more in the UK. I hope you had a lovely celebration.
I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, but I love being reminded to give thanks. I am thankful for small things like being loved and appreciated, being alive, living in London and the roof over my head.
I joyfully share my blessings & prayers.. I am forever grateful for my family and husband, and of course good health. Happy thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I absolutely agree that we should be thankful for all of the lessons we learn, even the harsh ones. Those lessons help us grow and evolve.
Seize each moment to say thank you is my favorite here. We need to have a reminder to be grateful especially around holidays!
Gratitude should be an everyday thing. Being thankful is so very important in our lives.
Such a lovely blog.. I have come from a place where we do not follow thanksgiving tradition and this is one festival i totally love with… such lovely thing to feel thankful and and spend time with family..
WOWEE! So good! We thank God for your life. Thanksgiving is such a good time to reflect and see how far you’ve come. Wishing you and your family a happy thanksgiving!!!!! 🙂
I bet that “the gift of life” shook a brain. We all need to appreciate ourselves because that is the only way to stay happy and healthy.
I’m thankful for my family! I’m thankful for their happiness and their health! I love Thanksgiving!
Amazing post, probably my favorite quote is the first one which is in the beginning of this post.
I love the poem Thanksgiving Observance! I have so many things to be grateful for and it reminds me to “count my health instead of my wealth and to rely on God instead of myself.” Love it!
I love the way you wrote out your recipe of thanks. Being thankful should be an everyday thing no matter how big or small, each day we get to live is already something to always be thankful for.
I thought I had already commented on this post but maybe I forgot to. I love how you say that we should be grateful for the harsh lessons as we often learn much more from them than the easy ones. i know personally I am thankful for the many harsh lessons I have learned from, and still grateful for the easy ones as well. I love this season for how it seems to make everyone think more clearly about what they have to be thankful for.
There are so many times I felt led to do something like stop and thank a first responder and chickened out. Next time, I will not let myself convince myself to walk away. Thank you for this post.
Thanksgiving is an amazing holiday and is usually pushed aside quickly for the Xmas time… Giving thanks allows us to reflect on what we have in life and be grateful, it’s the holiday that reminds us ‘hey, what am I thankful for in my life?’ and that’s beautiful and meaningful.
I LOVE getting together with my entire family, just being together under one roof and sharing time, love, and food is amazing… and I’m thankful for that!
I love the poem of What am I thankful for. The recipe look pretty cute and warm and stir them together you get plenty of happiness in life. The one lesson I get out from this post is “seize every opportunity to thank for”.
your recipe of thanks is cute to read. us brits don’t celebrate thanksgiving but we should be thankful everyday
