Motivation Mondays: CLOSED DOORS
A door opens to me. I go in and am faced with a hundred closed doors. Antonio Porchia
Often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us. Helen Keller
There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception. Aldous Huxley
What Does a Closed Door mean to You? Quite often, we look at a closed door as a negative symbol; it can represent a denial or rejection of expectations or opportunities but that is NOT entirely true. A closed door can be beneficial in that a denial or slammed door we experience can lead us in a new and better direction. A rejection can be a form of protection against possible adversities attached to what we might believe to be good but actually isn’t. Over the years, I have had my share of rejections and while some hurt and led nowhere, others opened new and far more beneficial doors for me. I remember one job I was so eager to have because I felt supremely qualified for it. I applied, did everything right and was in the running as one of the final 3 candidates.
When the choice was made and 2 of us were cut, I was very upset. As far as I was concerned, I was the most qualified for the position but that didn’t matter. They picked someone else and I had to move on. The door closed on that position and I found a far more rewarding opportunity that was growth driven and helped me learn new skills. Many months later, I heard the position had opened again. This time, I was not in a hurry because I also learned that it was not an ideal work environment to be in. The Closed Door had offered me protection and a new direction, not rejection. Think of your closed door experiences and the lessons learned.

Motivation Mondays: CLOSED DOORS
Another train will come. Why rush? Why worry? Why go crazy? Another train will come. And sure enough, another train going my way was pulling into the station. My bad mood evaporated. I entered the car smiling, certain that there would be more missed trains in my life, more closed doors in my face, but there would always be another train rumbling down the tracks in my direction. Esmeralda Santiago
We must open the doors of opportunity. But we must also equip our people to walk through those doors. Lyndon B. Johnson
Is it Wise To Walk Away? I know we have all heard sayings about breaking down doors, walking through closed doors to grab at our opportunities but, is this sage advice 100% of the time? I don’t think so. Sure, we want doors of opportunity to open for us and we also want to be prepared for the challenges and growth that come from our experiences. However, there are times when we can choose to not walk through certain doors or be grateful that some doors stay shut. If walking through a door would lead us into a chaotic or hostile situation, it would be best to leave the door closed. Why? Because it is a mark of honor to avoid an unnecessary fight; especially a fight with someone who has nothing to lose. So, just as we are encouraged to choose our battles, we must also meditate on the wisdom of choosing our doors. If we pay attention and reflect on our situations, we will soon understand more about our outcomes. They are not random. Think about your own experiences.

Motivation Mondays: CLOSED DOORS
The doors of wisdom are never shut. Benjamin Franklin
I knew well that the only way I could get that door open was to knock it down; because I knocked all of them down. Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander
You have to come to your closed doors before you get to your open doors… What if you knew you had to go through 32 closed doors before you got to your open door? Well, then you’d come to closed door number eight and you’d think, ‘Great, I got another one out of the way’… Keep moving forward. Joel Osteen
The lips of the wise are as the doors of a cabinet; no sooner are they opened, but treasures are poured out before thee. Akhenaton
Is Your Door Open or Closed? While we are on the subject of external doors, we need to consider the internal doors we carry around with us. They are as important (maybe more so) as the real, concrete doors we encounter in our lives. As I mentioned earlier, a closed door can be beneficial in that a denial or slammed door we experience can lead us in a new and better direction. A rejection can be a form of protection against possible adversities attached to what we might believe to be good for us but actually isn’t. But, far more important are the internal doors we carry with us. Happiness is an inside job and external factors offer a temporary band aid. If we don’t take care of our inner dialog and work through our baggage, we’d stay stuck in certain areas of our lives. How many of our internal doors are sealed shut because of hurts and fears? Food for thought. We are here to experience life’s ups and downs and to be a blessing to others… So use affirmations to refocus on what feeds/fuels you. BREATHE! More affirmations later

So true Elizabeth, but it’s not always easy to recognize and see that a door that slammed closed is a good thing. We become so focused on that one door that shut that we forget to see all the others that are opening up all around us.
True and we all do this. That is why we need reminders to learn to let go and let the process unfold.<3
I saw a post on Instagram first. Later, when I came to this post here – it inspired even more. Great things happen to those who are ready to recieve anything. I love this so much!
Thank you Miljance.. Well said. We get what we give. 🙂
Hi Elizabeth,
Regret over the closed door or lost opportunities is one of the worst feeling. It’s always better to have a open mind and look for what we have acheived rather than what we could have if we have got that closed door. It’s not worth fighting every battle.
– Sanjeev
i had lots of closed door n my life and i was always depressed by that but now i know it was all for the better, it it wasnt for that i certainly wouldnt be here commenting lol you just need to be patient and redy to recieve what will eventually come
Those moments when the door closes is a challenging one. Filled with tons of strong emotions. But once that emotion settles when the right door opens we always find some type of peace. It all falls into place and the door was closed for a reason. Now is the time that it was meant for you when that door opens.
I do believe that when a door closes, another one opens. And I have experienced this a few times in my life. The new opportunity was so much better and so much exciting than the one under the closed door, always.
Incredibly thought provoking and positive. I’d like to say closed doors are doors waiting to be opened!
Your article reminded me a famous quote by Hellen Keller. According to which, when a door get closed in front of you thousand other opened doors opens up for us.. But we are so bust looking at the closed door that the opened doors remain unnoticed…. ☺
I so agree to the quote, “when one door closes, another one is sure to open” Remind us to never give up, everything has it’s own time.
So true and I love the Joel Osteen quote you left. Every closed door really does mold you into who you are.
Robin
i DO TOO.
Great article! I always look at closed door as an opportunity for me to find a new door. There is always something to look forward to in life
XOXO Fiona | fionadiaries.com
I love this. I am a real believer that everything happens for a reason, and most reasons are not made visible until later. Looking back I would not change anything, so it goes to reason that looking forward, I would accept a closed door as a blessing. Great post!
lIKEWISE! 🙂
Yeah I also believe that when that door opens for you, you should take it. And when it closes, be patient coz another door might open, sometimes its a window, or if you are lucky, a full gate will open.
Great read. And I agree certain doors stay closed for a reason!
I’ve always felt that when one door closes a better opportunity will come your way. Sometimes it may see lovely, but it’s not a great fit for you, your future, or your lifestyle. It’s really all about perspective.
I always enjoy your articles, so thought provoking!
This is a very inspirational post! I believe that when one door closes, another one will shortly open. Everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t know what that reason is at the time, there always is one.
For me a close door would mean an opportunity awaiting ahead of me, behind those doors are the most wonderful things that might happen in my life if i take the step to move forward and open the doors as sign of accepting the challenge.
Absolutely love this. I personally believe also that everything happens for a reason and when time comes for us we should always open our door to whatever comes in our way.
I love your pictures you choosed on your article. Very cool topic and great idea.
A closed door to me, means another opportunity is waiting for you. Because even if one door is closed there are many other waiting to be opened.
Retaining the calm while all doors seems closed in front of you is the toughest job one can do. In that time the sense of looking everything makes us pissed off everything and we fail to look the opportunities we are going to have in future. Your article is powerful enough to redirect people during their that frustrating time. As I am facing some challenges in my personal life right now this motivation is going to be really helpful to me.
I used to be so focused on the doors that shut, that I forget to see all the ones opening up all around me. Now when I door closes I smile and a look forward to what God has for me next.I know the benefit of a closed door. I used put wedges in the door because I was so afraid for them to close, but once God’s forces them close and I see why, I find myself so grateful.
Closed doors. Perfect read for me. I have experienced that closed doors inwardly are much damaging. Anything can be conquered outwardly when inward awakening happens.
Got to love motivation any day of the week.
Closed doors are great! Depends on how you look at it.Even Behind closed doors we motivate each other
