This is my wish for you: peace of mind, prosperity through the year, happiness that multiplies, health for you and yours, fun around every corner, energy to chase your dreams, joy to fill your holidays! D.M. Dellinger

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Each year, as this particular holiday rolls around, I marvel at how quickly the year seemed to have flown by. I pause and take stock of the fact that soon enough, exactly one week later, the New Year will ring our doorbells laden with new gifts, goals, and opportunities for growth. How did 2018 end up for you? How are you preparing for the coming year? What will you do differently in 2019? At the start of the year, so many of us jumped in feet first and made promises to conquer the world, create new planets and exhale and excel. While some of us dared to try, and achieved a modicum of success, others rolled back their plans as unexpected demands took over their plans. Yet, a few simply found it all too enervating and threw in the towel well before the end of spring.  Regardless of where we started and ended up in 2018, what matters is that if you are reading this, you made it. Okay? You made it and have another chance to give it your best shot in 2019. Never give up. As long as there is life, there is HOPE.

Holidays by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The holiest of all holidays are those
Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;–
The happy days unclouded to their close;
The sudden joys that out of darkness start
As flames from ashes; swift desires that dart
Like swallows singing down each wind that blows!
White as the gleam of a receding sail,
White as a cloud that floats and fades in air,
White as the whitest lily on a stream,
These tender memories are;–a fairy tale
Of some enchanted land we know not where,
But lovely as a landscape in a dream.

To many people, holidays are not voyages of discovery, but a ritual of reassurance. Philip Andrew Adams

Holiday gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. Oren Arnold
Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. Calvin Coolidge

What was 2018 like? For me, 2018 was a year of challenges, tests of faith, loss, miraculous blessings, and renewal. My daughters lost their beloved grandfather in December, and one of my best friends lost her boyfriend in the same month. Health issues were not minimal but I weathered them. My car got totaled in a nasty accident in May and other types of challenges kept me on my aching back and feet fighting. An online group I created content for and helped manage went south leaving many of us hurt and disappointed. Yet, through it all, there were many moments of joy, magical grace and peace. I spent time with family here and abroad. Renewed my faith by joining a local place of worship and making friends – Northway church.  Started several new Facebook groups/communities that are thriving. Reconnected with a few old friends and rekindled my love for music and concerts. The year isn’t quite over but I am filled with gratitude for the good and the difficulties. Christmas Day will be upon us In less than 24 hours and I am excited about celebrating the birth of Christ with my loved ones. What about you?

A Letter To Santa
Dearest Santa,
Thank you for the blessings you showered on us this year. Thank you for the new friends and fresh opportunities. We are all grateful… My wish for the coming year is more goodwill, grace and abundance in the world, and less misery, meanness and scarcity!
Please don’t mix these two up like you did last year! 🙂
With love & gratitude to all,

Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” Dale Evans Rogers

Happy Holidays to everyone! As I prepare to wrap up the holidays with my family, I can’t help but think of those in need. The holidays is NOT always blissful for everyone. It is a sad time for some, a rehashed memory for a few, and a mixed blessing for others. One thing I know for sure about this season is that it is called the giving Season for a reason; it’s the end of year,  Hanukkah, Christmas and the spirit of Kwanzaa beckon us to reflect, rejoice and return the goodwill by sharing our largess with the less fortunate in or communities. As we purchase and share holiday gifts, we should remember to offer a helping hand to those in need. The true spirit of giving in this season is about giving to those who have no one to give them anything. Reach out and give to your favorite charities, include others at your table and in your heart. We are all deserving of the goodwill of the Christmas season. Make a difference. No effort is too small or wasted. I also want to say THANK YOU to everyone who reads or helps me with this blog. I thank you for your support, blog love, visits and comments!  Without the support of our communities, we toil in silence. May abundant grace always meet you at your door…

A Christmas Prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson
“Loving Father,
help us to remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and the worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and
open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and
good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings, and teach us to
be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy
to be Thy children, and the Christmas evening
bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus‘ sake. Amen.” Via yahoo.voices

  • Hi mirth,
I am a first time reader , so happy holiday season from my end.
It was refreshing to read such a nice content on Christmas.
    Regards

    • Hi Shivam, May you never get jaded from reading posts across the blogosphere. Happy Holidays and thank you for stopping by.

  • Wishing you a Merry Christmas! Thank you for sharing your life with us all. This year has been an amazing year full of blessings in our household and we can not wait to see what 2019 brings!

  • I’m sorry to hear your year was so tough. Thank you for your honesty. You perspective is inspirational!

    • Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I appreciate your honest feedback. 🙂

  • 2018 was a great year for me and I’m looking forward to a great 2019 just like you. It is inspiring to read how you are ending the year in gratitude.

  • Happy Holidays! Despite the challenges you faced, it’s good to know that you pulled through unscathed. Anyway, I still could not believe how the year’s most awaited holiday quickly went by.

    • Right? Thank you for reading my post … to some degree, I was unscathed. Yes, Christmas appeared and then quietly made its exit.

  • I’m also amazed sometimes at how fast the years go. I feel like we just celebrated Christmas last year! Time seems to fly even faster now that I have my own children. Overall 2018 has been a decent year but I am ready to rock 2019!

  • 2018, for me, was a good year. I accomplished a major goal, celebrated 4 years with my husbands, traveled, and generally it was good. However I can’t say the same for all my loved ones, so hopefully 2019 is nicer to them.

  • Happy Holidays! The holidays are a time when I reflect and give thanks for everything I have… whilst remembering those who are not so fortunate.

  • Merry Christmas 🎄it does make everything look more beautiful! New year new hope new plans..

  • Happy Holidays and thank you for your wonderful holiday wishes. May you enjoy your loved ones and have a great time.

  • I hope the rest of the year is good for you. It’s sad when we lose people we love. I hope that you are healing well from your car accident.

    • Thank you for taking the time to read my post… I am healing and we are making the best of the situations.

  • Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Festivals are the best way to connect with your loved ones.

  • I am glad you had a good year in spite of its challenging times for you and your family. Our biggest challenge in 2018 was having our basement flood in May – not fun!

    • Wow! We had that experience a couple of years ago and, thankfully, our homeowners insurance kicked in and handled the matter.

      • Thankfully ours did too! But the repairs took over 4 months from flood to completion, and our garage is still full of stuff waiting to be sorted through and either put back or discarded grr…here’s to a better 2019!

  • You’re 2018 seemed rough, definitely ups and downs, but you’ve put out a lot of positivity this year!

    • Thank you! I found that what we focus on becomes a path to healing and growth. I am grateful.

  • Merry Christmas my friend, sorry it’s a few days late. Wishing you and your family a blessed and love filled festive season and may 2019 bring you only joy and happy memories

  • Remembering that not everyone is able to celebrate the holidays like I am is a huge part of our Christmas and while we don’t spend a lot we try to match dollar for dollar spent on gifts to donations. It’s a small part.

  • 2018 was my first full year living with my brain injury. I found out WCB was not going to cover my meds, but my private insurance would. I have been learning to live with a traumatic brain injury. I found a renewed interest in writing and photography and started a blog. All in all progress.

    • I am so proud of you Blair; especially because of all the effort you are making to stay positive with life. Best wishes for an inspired 2019

  • I love your Motivation Monday lists! I only wish I had come across them earlier! What a great post. Hope you had Happy Holidays and you have a great new year! I look forward to incorporating these inspirational Mondays into my days.

  • It was such a Merry Christmas for me! And i hope everybody else did have a Merry Christmas too.. 😘 I dressed up my child with a batman costume and went to all of his godfather and godmother.. It was so overwhelming.

  • Happy holidays, glad to hear that the challenges didn’t bring you down, and I am sorry to hear about the losses, but the next year will be your year, as for how this year was for me it had it’s ups and downs, I tried to accommodate everyone’s wishes, and in doing that I neglected mine, so for me I hope that the next year is the year where I will probably try to focus more on myself, because I need it, thank you for this motivational and informative article, and I hope that the next year is filled with good things and blessings for you.

    • Thank you too Matija. You always bring your A game to whatever you do and it will pay dividends for you too. Here’s to a terrific 2019!

  • The holiday season always make me look back at the year that just FLEW by. I think back to my goals back in January and how I have achieved them or how I can set out to achieve them next year. Happy Holidays!

  • It was indeed a challenging year for most of us. I think holidays is the time when everyone should just take a break and enjoy the moment in the end of each year. I’m glad it was going well for you 🙂

  • I love your ideas for gifts to give to others especially the forgiveness to your enemies! Keeping this in mind during this holiday season.

  • I’m sorry 2018 was so tough for you. Your outlook on the New Year is so inspiring and I know good things will come along in 2019!

  • Thank you so much for reminding us all of the true essence of holidays and that we should give to others befor expecting to get anything.

  • It was great to read about the holiday wishes in so many different languages and the letter to Santa. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your entire family. Have a fab 2019 🙂

  • Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful families! I do take time away from work and spend quality time with family! SO so important!

  • I definitely feel the idea of Christmas waving a magic wand. I always feel that this time of year! Happy Holidays! -Tonya Morris

  • I always enjoy reading your blogs. They are so motivational. First I am sorry to hear about your children’s loss of grandfather. I lost my grandpa in November along with several other relatives throughout the year. It helps me to remember to be grateful that I am alive and about to make it into a new year. In 2019 I want to continue to try to grow my business, to focus more on my own happiness, and to spend more time with family while they still here on this Earth

  • Hi mirth,

  • Sounds like we both had bad 2018’s. Mine was filled with unemployment, loss and struggles. only a few good things came of the year. But im trying my absolute hardest for a better 2019 and it looks like you’re hopeful to do the same. So I wish you a happy new years and hope that 2019 is much kinder to you than this past year.

  • Christmas is just so magical and it’s a time when people are happy, excited, and together with their loved ones.

  • Happy holidays too 💗 I’m really looking forward to start a new year and I really like Motivation mondays post. I’ve read some of them and I became a huge fan 😍

  • The holidays are my favorite time of year. I get stressed but I also feel so blessed to be around friends and family. Although, I cannot wait until 2019! It should be a great year!

  • What an honest look over the past year! I think the most important part of the end of the year is looking back over how you have grown since the beginning of the previous year, and then look at the year to come as an opportunity for more growth and a blessing that you are still here!

  • Thank you so much for being such an inspiration! I love how positive you are, next year is gonna rock.

    Chad

  • Several of the quotes in this post will stay with me for a while, I can tell. Holidays are reassurances vs. discoveries. That makes so much sense – and it’s especially fitting for the end-of-year holidays after a tumultuous year.

  • I love the fact that the holidays means that I get to enjoy a Christmas dinner with my family – this year wasn’t the best but we can only hope for better 🙂

  • 2018 and 2019 were very challenging with our family dealing with many health problems. I am hoping for a happy and healthy 2020 for everyone!

  • Wow so many great pieces of motivation in one post! Thank you for wrapping this all up in an easy-to-read way

  • While the holidays always has people who don’t have enough during the holidays, but this year, this issue has exploded. We need to help when we can and keep everyone in our hearts! Happy holidays, everyone!

  • Despite of everything, I’m happy and thankful this holiday season because there are a lot of blessings that we received as well.

  • It is always fun to look back on Christmases past and see what it was like compared to now. So, Elizabeth, it seems that 2018 was a tough one in that you lost a family member and that car accident seemed bad. But you too survived. I wonder how it was compared to this December during a year of pandemic, financial crisis, and other possible pains? I always think it is funny when I hear, “if I knew then what I know now..” Well, this year has been brutal for us but I wonder what it taught me and how it compares to pains of my past that I thought were too hard to over come yet I did. Perhaps by reflecting on that, I can see the true Hope in the Holidays and in life.

    • Yes, each year brings its blessings and challenges and it is often in retrospect that we come to understand and appreciate both. There is hope in the world. Stay faithful.
