Weekly Photo Challenge
“If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.” Pat Riley

Weekly Photo Challenge: Photography Collage
On a fortuitous day in February 2011, Erika of WordPress’ Daily Post introduced the idea of starting a Weekly Photo Challenge. We had been writing Daily Post prompts for a while, and it made perfect sense to add photography as a complement to our writing exercises. A small group of us jumped on the idea and tested our metier as budding and professional photographers. I remember that the first assignment was Boundaries; I labored over mine because I wasn’t sure if my idea would translate well in photography. (See excerpts from mine below). Since then, we have had a photo challenge posted by WP Daily Post staff every Friday.
Each year, WP staff offer us special photography challenges and I love them very much because they draw more people to the group. In 2012, the special was Inspiration (see mine below). I enjoyed that one a lot because we got to step forward and identify ourselves.
In 2013, the staff added cellphone photos – Phoneography – as a new component and it brought even more people into the community. Instagram and cellphone shots ruled supreme and they lost me for a while. The special photo challenge for that year was My Neighborhood, I had to add mine retroactively. (See mine below). Why did I add mine later? In 2013, I owned a Blackberry that took awful pictures and so my participation was limited. Plus, I had health matters to deal with and that took 1+years. Even though WP staff encouraged us to use regular cameras, I didn’t feel my camera was the right choice for phone photos.
Call To Action: Join In! The instructions for the Weekly Photo Challenge are clear. Once you capture or find your preferred image, you get to share it with the community and the world. I’ve enjoyed the process and even though I missed a bunch, I’m glad I joined in. Trust me, you’ll enjoy it. It’s a terrific way to get your creative juices flowing.
