FOOD is SUSTENANCE: Do you remember the last time you ate your most favorite food on the planet? How about a joyful memory of food shared with loved ones on a very special occasion? What about a funny, sad, adventurous or even scary moment you had with food? You see, food is a great equalizer and, like life, it helps us create memories and milestones that we cherish throughout our lives.
I’ve always loved good food and I suspect that it had a lot to do with my mother. She was a terrific cook and studied catering back in the day when more women chose that area of study because of career limitations. She loved to experiment and we got to try all sorts of exotic and exquisite foods. Of course, my favorite food is tied to childhood memories of being nurtured, protected and fed food that made me feel better, even though it wasn’t a pill. But then again, food is medicine and we can heal our bodies with the right combination of food and therapeutic medical treatment. So grab a cuppa, click on any link here and enjoy the food stories I’ve shared. More will follow.
Food plays an important role in all of our lives. We need it for sustenance, we gather to enjoy it with friends and family, and we use it to celebrate special occasions. I’ve written a number of posts on food but, recently, my kids encouraged me to create a dedicated page to feature our recipes, our love for fresh ingredients, and the joy of good food.
This is a new page and it will be a repository for all things food; recipes, stories, reviews, special offers and more. If you’d like to share a good story with me or would like me to write a review or taste test a food, please contact me at: Contact(@)mirthandmotivation(.)com.
FYI – I’ve added a few trackbacks below for your easy perusal.. There are more food related posts on this blog and I plan to add to this list soon. My first food feature is a Green Beans Medley. Hope you enjoy it. Thank you for stopping by!
Positive Motivation Tip: Enjoy the foods around you and don’t forget to give gratitude and share.

I think your children’s suggestion of having a dedicated food page was spot on. Unfortunately, I can’t see or find your Green Bean Medley recipe. I also checked in my Google Chrome browser after I couldn’t see it in my Firefox browser.
Hello, Ms Elizabeth Obih-Frank! I like your passion and understanding about food and its social values.
Here are many more great examples to inspire you to make more great dishes during the festive season:

Please enjoy and happy 2018!
Good idea to make a separate food page. Family eating together is really important.
I love all the great quotes, especially the one by Elsa Schiaparelli.
This is why the family dinner table is so important. Sometimes I lapse and let my kids eat in the living room but really taking those twenty minutes to commune with each other and our food is so important.
There’s so much good content here to sink my teeth into😋. Looking forward to digging into your site some more!
I am looking for recipe ideas. Is there a link that I’m missing?
What type of recipes are you looking for?

I like to try new recipes for my family. It gives them some diversity.
Same here… I also ask them to tell me what they’d like to try. They are very creative foodies too.
I love food and any post about food will get my attention…always!
My daughter’s college scholarship group for helping those in poverty did a practice where they invited everyone from the university to share a meal together – some were served feasts, while others rice and beans only, while some only rice. They all discussed kinship, working together, their meals, and what it is like for the different classes. I think you would have loved it!
I like the quotes you use in this post. They are spot on.
Thank you! 🙂
Love the food dedication
food is a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experience – the way we prepare and eat our food is SO important….
It’s so true that food is common ground and a universal experience. Food can bring everyone together!
Love this post, it has sparked some ideas. And that picture? It sparked some too.
When my kids were growing up, as a single parent it was really difficult to make sure the 3 of us ate dinner together every night. Too many evenings were spent at the office for that OT! If I could do it over again, I change a few things. Dinner is connect and feel the love time, So wish I had made that the home motto.
Great that you have added a food file to your plethora of offerings.. but I would love to see your recipes too, surely you have many to offer! 🙂
Yes, i have many more to offer and will return to this section soon.
I am learning cooking and your post has encouraged me to try new recipes. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Good, keep it up!
I just noticed your James Beard quote: “Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” I travel all over the world and I have found that to be very true. Even if you don’t speak the language or aren’t familiar with the culture, you can still communicate positively through food!
Food is a great way to connect and bond with people globally
I loved the quote by Elsa Schiaparelli and totally agree with you that we should enjoy each and every bite of our Food and thank God for providing that meal to us.
Yes, it is a precious commodity.
I have never tried a cronut before, but now I need to! Yum!
Food should have more of a benefit than just good taste. Done right, food keeps you healthy, cures things and so much more!

You bet food has a lot of importance in our lives as we need it to survive. But also food connects us to who we are and allows us to create memories too. Who doesn’t remember a childhood favorite dish that transports us to home =)
I love food pages! One thing that always connects my family is sitting around good food at the dinner table.
YES! Food plays such an important role in our lives. What we choose to put in our bodies determines so much for our day, week… years. Fantastic post, list of recipes, and inspiration!
Food is essential, of course, but we need to be more careful with the choices. There are so many easy options as well as healthy ones. I too often choose the easy way and don’t listen to my body what it really needs to be in full strenght.
We sometimes forget how blessed we are to have all this yummie food. Posts like this remind us. Nice.
This is such a great idea .. having one central page that links to food related posts. Can’t wait to read more about the “10 Good Luck Foods to Eat”

LOVE LOVE LOVE the food files section of your blog! So many great ideas!
I have a big love-hate relationship with food. I love that it brings people together, keeps me nourished, and tastes good. I hate that it takes so much time to prepare and eat. This is a good reminder of how important a person’s relationship is with food though.
Wonderful quotes and thoughts. The food isn’t too bad either. 🙂

I’ll be excited to see all of the recipes and items you stick on this page. I do think food binds us in a way few other things can.
Oh I agree, ”Eating is not merely a material pleasure. Eating well gives a spectacular joy to life”, it gives utter joy and energy. Somebody told me whenever I am hungry, I should eat, but if I am thinking about diet, I should just eat responsibly. 🙂

There is no doubt that food is just one of the real joys of living and that becomes even more special when it is an occasion or you are sharing it with someone you love. One of the things I love to do when I travel is to try as many different cuisine styles as I can. I am really impressed with all the food posts you have done – I didn’t know you had completed so many and will have to check some of these out.

I think for me it was my Great Grandmother who really got me into food, she used to take us all over the place to try different foods when I was a kid. I have many great memories with her in different restaurants.
It’s amazing how many memories food can evoke in us. It’s so much more than just something vital to life.
I agree that we should always be grateful for the food we have and share it with others who may no be so fortunate to have enough food.

I agree food is so much more than about sustenance. All celebrations are around food. It plays such an important role in our lives.
My grandma used to make homemade beef and noodles. My grown kids still ask me to try and make it (mine is never as good as hers) and they are all grown. I think it’s more of a feeling than a flavor (though it tastes great too). We’ve attached that dish to our memory of her, and how special she made all of us feel.
Great page! I am not good in cooking but I love food.
Omg, good food makes me happy. When I’m done, I’d always want something I don’t usually get everyday. It’s kinda like a treat for myself.
So true, food is so important for our lives. It matters so much to make the right choices!

Your quotes are quite inspirational. The food categories are spot on
Family time is very important. Indeed Food plays an important aspect in our lives
I agree, food is a great way to connect with people and with memories. During the holidays when I smell cookies baking it reminds me of baking with my great grandmother when I was little, bitter sweet because I miss her but I love having those memories.
So true! And you have quite a collection of articles there. Gonna have to take a closer look at them 🙂
I love food and seriously I love to try out new cuisines also could not help but eat 3 times the same food also.
Anything pasta would probably be my most favorite meal, A traditional Italian Tagliatelle would be the most favorite…
I agree, food is indeed our common ground. I met a lot of people through gatherings and have become good friends with them because of food. Sometimes, I don’t just accept invites but when there’s food involve… chances of me going is 70/30 😀
When I get bored with the same old food I check new recipes and try them. Also having dinner with family is something unique and bonding.
Food sustains us and gives us the energy to stay out while tasking and generally, living. That’s why I started becoming mindful about my food and eating habits. I’m more keen on my recipes and frequency of eating and size of my food portions. It’s amazing to be mindful about food.
I am struggling between food being enjoyed and food being fuel. There must be a balance, right?
Food makes me truly happy. When I’m sad… I like a good meal. When I’m happy… it’s nice to celebrate with food. When I’m tired… I turn to food to lift me up. It is sustenance–we all deserve to enjoy FOOD.
This is a very cool page. It looks like a lot of different foods on here — I will have to go exploring to get ideas.
I love food and have grown to love it even more once I became vegan. I eliminated most chemical crud that masks as food and have lost 125lbs.
My mom has always been a wonderful cook and this is what helped me develop a fine appreciation for food! I don’t cook much in the summer, but I enjoy cooking/baking when the weather gets cooler.

It’s great to have a dedicated section for food. I mean, who doesn’t love to connect over a good meal.
I am looking forward to trying some new recipes! Food is love!!

Yes apart from a common ground, food speaks so much about the culture of a certain place. That’s why I would really try to eat local cuisines whenever I am abroad.
