In Spain, gastronomy is a genuine way of life in which you are warmly invited to take part. Spain’s Mediterranean diet holds a UNESCO Cultural Heritage designation; it has 25,000 restaurants, 10% of tourists who visited in 2014 came as part of the Gastronomic Tourism, it has 145 Michelin Star restaurants of which 7 have 3 Michelin stars and it’s the 3rd largest producer of wine in the world. Try The World: A Taste Of Spain Subscription Box Review: What comes to mind when you think of Spain? ¡Viva España! I think of its fantastic architecture, art, folk traditions, and, above all, food and wine. Spain offers a gastronomic experience that can entice even the most picky foodie and palate. A trip through Spain offers a wide range of places and plates to enjoy; one day you could spend time visiting the Royal Palace of Madrid, Park Güell, Sagrada Família, and the beaches of Barcelona, and end up enjoying Tapas or a hearty Paella at a local eatery. Next, you could be off sightseeing and catching the beauty of the Great Mosque of Córdoba, a trip to Calat Alhambra, the Aqueduct of Segovia, El Tajo in Ronda, or even a trip to see the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, or many other great places to visit in Spain, and still stop to enjoy some fine wine, great seafood, and Patatas Bravas at another venue.
The Fall featured box from TTW – Try The World comes to us from the sunny Kingdom of Spain. Spain is one of only three countries (with France and Morocco) in the world that has both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. What does that mean? From a geographical standpoint, it has mainland and boundary borders that run north/south/east/west connecting it with a few countries and two oceans. It also means they have a surfeit of beaches and fabulous vacation spots to keep you traveling through the countryside for months on end. With the holidays almost upon us, I wanted to feature this A Taste Of Spain Box before presenting the upcoming Holiday Box on Try The World’s Subscription Box plan. If you’ve followed my reviews, you know I’ve featured and reviewed all the fabulous foods offered in their travel-the-globe-from-your-home subscription box plan. Join me on a journey through Spain and then come back soon for the ultimate treat of the Holiday Box!

The type of cuisine I do, especially after being on ‘Iron Chef’ for several years, is a lot of global cuisine. My strength has always been Mediterranean cuisine across the board from Morocco, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, but I think now I’m doing a lot of very different cuisines all the time. Cat Cora
What is in the Spain Box? The Spain Box, like all the other, Try The World boxes I’ve received to date, didn’t disappoint. It arrived in their beautiful sea-foam green box with seven exquisite items carefully curated and packed for my enjoyment. For starters, they sought the help of Chef Jamie Bissonnette, 2014 James Beard Award winner and chef-owner of Coppa and two acclaimed tapas restaurants, Toro, in Boston and NY. Chef Jamie knows a lot about fine cooking and his keen eyes did justice to our items. My box held the following fine 7 treats: P. Listo Floral Jams (P. Listo’s preserves are made using artisanal production techniques and fruit grown on the company’s family farm in southeastern Spain. This one, made with orange blossoms, is delicate and aromatic.), El Avion Smoked Paprika (Paprika is a primary ingredient in many of Spain’s best-known dishes, including paella and patatas bravas. El Avión makes this hot and smoky one, packaged in a collectible vintage tin, with ripe peppers that are smoke-dried over slow-burning oak. It’s best used to add heat to tomato sauces, soups and casseroles, and poultry dishes.), Oleum Hispania Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (Located in Córdoba, a region that is recognized for producing high-quality olive oil in Spain, Oleum Hispania collects ripe olives and grinds them at cold temperatures immediately after they are harvested. The result is a complex oil that’s both fruity and lightly spiced), Ines Rosales Cortadillo Citrus Crumble Cakes (A cortado is a traditional Spanish pastry flavored with cinnamon and lemon and filled with cider cream. These ones from Ines Rosales continue to be made by hand according to a recipe that was developed over 100 years ago).
The Espinaler Canned White Tuna (A family company dedicated to the quality of their products, Espinaler obtains bonito del Norte, or white tuna, from tropical and subtropical waters around the world. It’s delicious over crostini, tossed in a salad, or mixed into warm, rice dishes.), El Navarrico Salsa Turmaca Con Ajo (Pan con tomate, made by rubbing garlic and tomato on crusty bread, is typical Catalonian breakfast food. Made with ripe tomatoes, olive oil, fresh garlic, and salt, this jarred version of the preparation is just as flavorful as the homemade one.), and El Almendro Turrón (Manufactured since 1883, El Almendro uses roasted Spanish almonds, egg whites, and honey to create naturally sweet and crunchy nougat. While turrón is traditionally eaten as a Christmas dessert in Spain, it’s delicious at any time of year)… I have a couple of recipes to share so stay tuned for them. So what stops you? “The Italians and Spanish, the Chinese and Vietnamese see food as part of a larger, more essential and pleasurable part of daily life. Not as an experience to be collected or bragged about – or as a ritual like filling up a car – but as something else that gives pleasure, like sex or music, or a good nap in the afternoon.” Anthony Bourdain

Usually, as a Filipino myself, I tried to taste food coming from other countries especially canned goods. I loved to find out the difference between local and imported products.
