Day 10 – 10 min Sun Salutation Practice -30 Days of Yoga
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. 2019 Theme: Climate Action. UN International Day of Yoga
Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer’s own form. Patañjali
A real yogi is one who can maintain a peaceful mind in the midst of any crisis. Mata Amritanandamayi
When you are meditating you are sitting in the cosmos. Amma Sri Karunamayi
I have been a seeker and I still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars. I started listening to the teaching of my Soul. Rumi
In meditation and in our daily lives there are three qualities that we can nurture, cultivate, and bring out. We already possess these, but they can be ripened: precision, gentleness, and the ability to let go. Pema Chodron
Yoga does not remove us from the reality or responsibilities of everyday life but rather places our feet firmly and resolutely in the practical ground of experience. We don’t transcend our lives; we return to the life we left behind in the hopes of something better.” Donna Farhi
Asana has two facets, pose and repose. Pose is the artistic assumption of a position. ‘Reposing in the pose’ means finding the perfection of a pose and maintaining it, reflecting in it with penetration of the intelligence and with dedication.” B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
International Day Of Yoga: On December 11, 2014, the United Nations recognized the universal appeal of Yoga and declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. This is the fifth year that we are celebrating Yoga, with the UN as an endorser, and enthusiasm for this beneficial celebration continues to grow. While some people mistakenly dismiss Yoga as only a religious practice, its holistic benefits have been enjoyed by people from all walks of life. You can start a simple practice today and build on it; Yoga is not just the reserve of practitioners and pundits. For starters, you can take a beginner’s Hatha Yoga class that teaches simple postures, stretches and breathing exercises. Twisting yourself into a pretzel is not a requirement for taking up the practice. Besides, it takes years of advanced study and practice to master even the simplest movements so bloom where you are planted. What matters is your commitment to maintaining harmony and balance in your life so keep it simple. You can take a moment to enjoy the 10 minutes Salutation to The Sun – Surya Namaskar sequences above or even try a morning meditation walk. A truly gifted yoga teacher knows how to connect with people at all levels and abilities.

The Laughing Heart By Charles Bukowski
your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.
Kindness By Naomi Shihab Nye
Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
The Guest House By Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
“Knowledge of the Self, compassion, equanimity, pure devotion, inner faith, and complete divine love—these are the qualities that illuminate the heart.” Amma Sri Karunamayi

To perform every action artfully is yoga. Swami Kripalu
Be like the honeybee who gathers only nectar wherever it goes. Seek the goodness that is found in everyone. Mata Amritanandamayi
You must have a heart filled with self-sacrifice. You must have the feeling that you have come to this world for the pure work of meditation and selfless service. Amma Sri Karunamayi
Yoga is not a religion. It is a science, science of well-being, science of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind, and soul. Amit Ray
Make every day a day of Thanksgiving and continuous contentment will sparkle in your body, mind and soul. Paramahansa Yogananda
When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath. Hatha Yoga Pradipika
When you get into your car, shut the door and be there for just half a minute. Breathe, feel the energy inside your body, look around at the sky, the trees. The mind might tell you, ‘I don’t have time.’ But that’s the mind talking to you. Even the busiest person has time for 30 seconds of space. Eckhart Tolle
There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled. You feel it, don’t you? Rumi
Practice Makes Perfect: The popular text on yoga, Hatha Yoga Pradipika teaches us that “Anyone who practices can obtain success in yoga but not one who is lazy. Constant practice alone is the secret of success.” Whether we practice yoga and meditation to maintain health in our bodies or study it to enrich our minds, it offers many benefits that ultimately lead us back on the path to harmony, peace, and pure action. Some of us study the Chakras and the ancient Sanskrit texts to delve deep into the mystery of yoga but, it is a matter of preference. Developing a simple daily yoga practice and adopting a beginners mind in all we do can yield a bounty of results that include a sense of well-being, clarity of mind, and balance in our lives. In the five years since this became a globally recognized event, there have been themes for each year of International Yoga Day as follows: 2015: Yoga for Harmony and Peace, 2016: Connect the youth, 2017: Yoga for Health, 2018: Yoga for Peace, and for 2019: Yoga for Heart.

Motivation Mondays: A QUESTION Of BALANCE
A Great Yogi – Poem by Mirabai
In my travels, I spent time with a great yogi.
Once he said to me.
“Become so still you hear the blood flowing
through your veins.”
One night as I sat in quiet,
I seemed on the verge of entering a world inside so vast
I know it is the source of
all of
us.
Behind the Thunder BY Mark Nepo
I keep looking for one more teacher,
only to find that fish learn from water
and birds learn from sky.
If you want to learn about the sea,
it helps to be at sea.
If you want to learn about compassion,
it helps to be in love.
If you want to learn about healing,
it helps to know of suffering.
The strong live in the storm
without worshiping the storm.
In Blackwater Woods BY Mary Oliver
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and where the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.

Sun Never Sets On Yoga – A 24-hour Journey of Sun Salutations Around the Globe
Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about who you are. Jason Crandell
Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self. The Bhagavad Gita
Remember, it doesn’t matter how deep into a posture you go. What does matter is who you are when you get there. Max Storm
Yoga is a method to come to a nondreaming mind. Yoga is the science to be in the here and now. Osho
Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. Khalil Gibran
Think that you are a yogi and that you are pursuing your sadhana in this particular place and at this particular moment. Immediately you will experience great joy. If you change your understanding, you will be free in a minute. Baba Muktananda
The earth has disappeared beneath my feet… It fled from all my ecstasy. Now like a singing air creature, I feel the rose keep opening.” Hafiz
Summer Solstice & World Refugee Day: In addition to celebrating Yoga Day, we will also welcome the arrival of summer as one of the earth pole’s tilts closer to the sun and gives the longest day of light on the 21st. Something about summer gets us all excited. It marks the beginning of light days, light clothing, summer foods, drinks, and flowers. Mother nature knows how much we love her Earth and so she powers up the sun on this day to give maximum amounts of light late into the day. For those at the pole region, there is continuous daylight around the summer solstice. 24 hours of SUNLIGHT! Isn’t that amazing? World Refugee Day, which occurs on the 20th, is a day to remember those displaced people around the world who can no longer call their place of birth home. Why? Because of strife, wars, human rights violations, and other issues. To leave a home country by force is fraught with so many problems. Most of us would be reluctant to abandon our homes and everything we grew up knowing and loving to flee into the night and into unknown and often unwelcome territory. Imagine waking up one morning to the sound of gunfire and an urgent message to vacate your premises immediately. Refugees need our help and compassion and on the 20th, consider learning more about the issue and ways to help those in need.
How does all of this tie into our celebrations of Yoga Day? We are reminded through our practice to love our earth as well as our body, mind, and spirit. When we become acutely aware of the needs of our planet, of others on it, and we take time to treat ourselves with love and respect, we develop a universal consciousness that helps us honor the theme the UN recommends for this year. Climate in Action – A climate consciousness that leads to actions that reduce our carbon footprint, reduces waste and diminishes selfish actions towards other living things/people. May this month fill us all with thoughts and actions that encourage Yoga for Heart, Home, and the World. Namaste!

Excerpt: FROM “You Begin” BY Margaret Atwood, 1978
This is your hand, these are my hands, this is the world,
which is round but not flat and has more colors
than we can see.
It begins, it has an end,
this is what you will
come back to, this is your hand.
Wild Geese BY Mary Oliver
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile, the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
“The Lake Isle of Innisfree” by William Butler Yeats, 1890
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

I believe in Health is wealth, Also yoga improves mental health so we must do yoga in our day to day life.
Yoga has been so transformative for me, and I had no idea there’s an international day of yoga! Will definitely be celebrating on 21 June! And love that Yoga with Adriene’s 30 Day series was highlighted — she’s my favourite online yoga teacher and her 30 day series got me back into yoga.
I taught yoga for two years and I love the practice! I haven’t for years now but your post makes me miss it.
I go to yoga class every morning! I love the way it makes me feel afterwards. Great post!
Their flexibility is to die for.
Yoga literally changed my life. It helped me a lot to fix my broken back and made me a calmer happier person. My teachers are enriching people to me. Namaste!
I love yoga so this is nice to read ! It’s very inspiring and makes me love it more!
Oh I so miss my community yoga classes. There wasn’t enough participation so they were cancelled. Next year, when my boys are both in school full-time, I plan to start at home. As you mentioned, consistency in practice is the key, so I need to get more consistent with it.
this is such a great post! ive never done yoga before but it’s always been highly recommended, especially to start out if you haven’t worked out in a really long time, which was my case when i got pregnant. i was looking into something that’d ease me into exercising again after i gave birth, and then i tried yoga. i love it!
My girlfriend has slowing been doing more Yoga and I notice a positive difference in her moods. Exercise and stretching helps all people! Very therapeutic!
I like this part of the poem by Rumi – “Be grateful for whatever comes because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” I have not yet tried yoga but I do have friends who practice it and they do seem to radiate peace and calmness. This post inspired me to give yoga a try. I will look around for classes offered near my home.
Thank you for this information alert and inspiring post! I think I’ll try the 10 minute video to try and get back into a yoga practice
Yoga is the ultimate activity that challenges the mind and body and there’s a heavy spiritual component, too. I am glad to have been introduced to it as it’s helped me in many ways. I enjoyed reading the quotes and more about the impact of yoga.
I love the brilliant quotes share here, such as “Be like the honeybee who gathers only nectar wherever it goes. Seek the goodness that is found in everyone. Mata Amritanandamayi”. It reminds me to be kind to this world. I started to learn yoga many years ago and love practicing it. It gives me calm and peace and great for my mental health.
We’ve been meaning to try yoga for quite some time now. Our gym offers 1 hour session every day but for some reason, we’ve been holding back. Maybe this is a sign that we should go for it!
Love the Behind the Thunder BY Mark Nepo piece! Thanks for sharing.
I love all this thoughts and recommendations especially for meditation. Thanks for taking the time to share all this with us!
Yoga is really beneficial for our mind and body
These quotes are insanely thought provoking!
Yoga and motivational quotes keep is ho through life. Theres a positivity if you do yoga or read motivational qoutea. It keeps us energize in the case of yoga. Nice one.

Wow very cool! I love how yoga has taken off these days and is starting to trend upward! Can only mean good things.
I want to start doing yoga again as I used to find it very relaxing… I didn’t realise there was an International Day of Yoga!
These poems are really inspiring me to get off my butt and get breathing!
I love this year’s theme! Yoga for the heart is just perfect. I personally do yoga because it is a great way to show self-love.
Oooo so many awesome quotes!!!! I just love yoga!!!! Best way to unwind. I need to make more time for it!!
Beautiful motivation for International Day of Yoga. I’ve taken a few classes with a twist of Yoga but haven’t quite committed to a dedicated one yet. ” . . . bloom where you are planted” seems a perfect beginning.
It was really nice that yoga has a recognition day. I really love doing it in the morning. It feels so fulfilling.. 😊
Yoga is a great form of meditation. I try to do it at night when the kids are asleep. Helps me focus.
Honestly, I haven’t experience yoga but I always wanted to try and these quotes inspires me so much to pursue it. Yoga is such a great way to meditate.
Wow. I didn’t know there was a yoga day. I love bikram yoga and hot yoga.
Yoga is good not only as physical exercise but also it relaxes the mind; making one a lot better after exercise. The motivational quotes on the other hand, are inspiring and will let you think that all our troubles will fade away and that God will help us.
The laughing heart touches me so deeply. As I was reflecting on some challenges that I am currently going thru. This poem answers my internal questions. Thank you for sharing it.
I have heard so many benefits of yoga and how it really helps the mind, body, and posture. It’s good that it is now being recognized worldwide and even has a dedicated day for it. I hope to be able to really practice this soon.
I took a yoga class last semester in school. I couldn’t believe what a difference it made in me.
It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality. … Yoga asanas build strength, flexibility and confidence.
Lovely poems though!
Being a mom has taught me a lot about staying calm during a crisis, slowly but surely. I need to add yoga to meditation
I really love the kindness poem. Everything in this post is so inspiring, but that poem is my number one fav!
I am doing that each week. After several weeks, I cannot stop doing that. Now I do it whenever I have time, 5 or 10 minutes. It helps.
Thanks for the info!
Amaizing post. I will defiantly have to try yoga. I need to relax more. I have two kids I need it ❤
The laughing heart poem does speak to my own heart. In moment of despair, it is warm to know that here is a way out and the light still shines out there. Thanks for sharing another beautiful and inspirational post.
omg this is so encouraging and def something that im glad i was able to read this morning 🙂 i needed a little bit of motivation so i cant wait to share w/ a few other friends!
Yoga day is celebrated in a very huge way over here.
You should give a visit here in India. You are gonna love it.
I live in Tonga. We celebrated international yoga day here at the International Dateline Hotel. I heard it was awesome.
I recently started doing Yoga, I found it not so easy and these quotes really inspired me to do my best 🙂 I know it takes time to get use to it.
Love all of the quotes, but the one that resonates the most is “Do your work and perform your duties with all your heart. Try to work selflessly with love. Pour yourself into whatever you do.
Yoga is something that I need to adopt in my daily lifestyle after so many pulls and pressures every day.
These are amazing!!! I love yoga, i’ve done it for a few years, i need to get back on it for sure. Great post.
I try to practice yoga regularly, but am not very consistent. I think this website will help me! And I love the quote by Margaret Atwood!
I’ll have to use some of these quotes in the yoga classes I teach this week 🙂
I hardly walk. I just sit around and work on my laptop… I needed motivation to do some workout like yoga. Your blog post will help me! Thanks for sharing
Yoga is so great and I love how refreshing and meditating it is! Great post! -Sondra Barker @cuisineandtravel.com
My mom loves Yoga and she recently talked me into trying it again. I’m more of HITT workout type of person. However, I’ve been so stressed out lately so I decided to give Yoga a try after years of not doing it. Within a matter of minutes I instantly felt better, I was able to stretch my tight muscles. Yoga allowed me to slow down, just breath and relax, which is something I don’t do very often.
I am a total sucker for a good quote! I’ve been really trying to get into yoga lately and these yoga quotes are very inspiring!!
I’ve been told that yoga has great benefits.. I think it’s time I give it a try.
My body is not to flexible to do yoga, but after reading this post, I was thinking to do it every day.
Being from India, I know the value and importance of yoga and it gives me immense pleasure to see how deeply you are involved with it.
Thank you!
I’ve had a great time reading this post. I love doing yoga so much it helps me to recharge myself physically and mentally.
yoga with Adrienne is my all time favorite. her 30 day challenges are so amazing and it is a great way to do yoga at home!
I like that you include a quote by Eckhart Tolle. His work really introduced me to a world that included yoga.
I have always been interested in practicing Yoga. I have 0 flexibility and it scares me a little.
I have never really gotten into yoga. I remember the first time I tried it, in India, and it was a great experience. However, when I returned back home and tried it at my local gym, it didn’t feel the same. Maybe it was not the right teacher, but I didn’t really enjoy the class at all.
I didn’t know there was a international yoga day! It is not surprising though seeing as how many days they have themes for. You put together a wonderful list of quotes, many of them are quite beautiful.
Love Inspiring Yoga Quotes & Poems! I always look forward to new ones!
These are all such amazing yoga quotes! I love yoga day and I loved reading this!
I love the idea of using yoga as a way to better health, better relationships, and a better planet. I know stress is a literal killers and I just read that a polar bear was spotted thousands of miles from home looking for food because of what humans are doing to the planet.
I have not tried yoga, but I find that meditation can also help calm my mind and body. Maybe sometime I will pay my friend a visit. She practices yoga and she looks like she never aged!
Love the inspiration! Some of it I needed to read today!
Such a great, inspiring and interesting post! The photos are relaxing and the words are so wise. You make me wanting to do yoga. -)
I love the messages and poems on this blog! I really love this and I was really enjoying this blog.
What a great compilation of poems and quotes. Especially to read over at the start of a day. I liked The Laughing Heart BY Charles Bukowski.
Charles Bukowski is one of my favorite.
I follow his writings a lot, and he is like my ideal writer.
I started yoga a few years ago and I was quite sceptical about the benefits but it’s been a revelation. I don’t fully understand how it works but it really seems to relax me. In fact, it’s only since I’ve been practising yoga that I’ve stopped biting my nails. I also feel so much more flexible which has to be a good thing.
Happy International Yoga Day! I love how people are getting more awareness of yoga these days since it’s the key number one to connecting with our inner selves!
Yoga is a very spiritual activity for me. It helps me think and helps me clear my mind. With the guidance and correct technique, it will help you achieve “zen.”
I don’t practice yoga but do the stretches and just let building and it helps so much! It also helps with my anxiety
I do know how much yoga can help you with your balance. And it’s supposed to be really good with providing balance across everything in your life. When doing it right it’s all about mindfulness as much as it is about balance and staying present.
I do yoga with my kids but it isn’t really deep or spiritual as the kids are only 3. I don’t think they would understand it. But they enjoy doing each pose and I enjoy it as well.
I myself recently celebrated internation yoga day in my office and I must say in that half an hour session, I realized the importance of yoga. I have promised myself to practise it daily
I love the poem by Mirabai, it’s one of my favorites. This day is really special for me for many reason but yoga is one of them. It’s a lovely practice.
I saw a photo on social media recently that said something along the lines of, I hate to bend over to get my car keys, therefore I know I will hate yoga’ and it made me laugh. My daughter in law does yoga several times a week early on the beach with a group. She loves it very much!
Yoga is a method to come to a nondreaming mind. Yoga is the science to be in the here and now. Osho I really love this quote. It is by one of the men who I have studied deeply. I have read many of his books but yet to complete the book of secrets. He really advocates yoga and deep and active meditations to accompany it.
