Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way…

Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way… All are invited to party and play

Recently, Carole from PigletInPortugal and Barbara from ZeroTo60andBeyond tagged me in a popular prompt that is making the rounds in the blogosphere. First off, Thank You ladies! 🙂 Now, the idea is to select seven posts you’ve written that fit seven categories, add links to them and then share them with everyone. Another part to the exercise/game is to choose and tag 5 bloggers, then notify them to continue the exercise.

Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way… Ups and downs

In some way, this reminds me of the Daily Post prompt that suggested we choose and share top posts from March – May or better yet, those wonderful chain emails we used to get back in the day. You know, the ones where you were advised to spread the wealth sharing information that Microsoft was handing out free moola for something or the other. Of course, Bill Gates had to put a stop to that one because there was no truth to it… I digress. However, there is truth to this one because you get to choose your own posts and toot your horn for the posts you deem fit to print.

Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way… Yes, all the Gymboree kids shared

I thought this would be a breeze to do, but once I started thinking of the posts that fit, other posts reared their pretty heads demanding to be included. To add to the quandary is the selection of 5 bloggers. Now, if you’ve been a blog friend of mine, you know I was that kid in school who cringed when the teacher handed out invitation cards to “exclusive” birthday parties. It broke my heart when a fellow classmate didn’t get an invite and I vowed that when I grew up, I would never do that to a kid. I would either invite everyone or skip it.

Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way… We’re all in… no matter what

When I became a mom, I made sure to invite all of my twins classmates to those Gymboree and PlayPlace birthday parties. In the workplace, where selection comes with a set criteria, it would be fine to choose. But in the blogosphere, I appreciate all the friends I’ve made and I’d like to share this with y’all. Danke! Blogging can be very lonely and demanding of our time and effort and, once connections are made, we work hard to keep them. Yes, the point I am trying to make is that this Post Your Seven Links and Share Prompt is now gifted to all my buddies and any other blogger who would love to participate. My seven posts are below… yeah, I’m still sorting them out. No lame excuses. 🙂

Reflections on Blogging: Seven Posts That Helped Along The Way… All shared in posts & play

Here are my Seven Posts- ALL DONE! 😆
Most Beautiful Post: Inspiration: A Nature Walk… This was tough because I have other posts with far more beautiful photos. Plus, the word “beautiful” might mean different things to different people. I decided to choose this one because I took all the photos. It is a walk through my neighborhood showing off nature’s bounty.
Most Popular Post:  SADE LIVE: In Concert In NY… A Pictorial Review  It was the post that got Freshly Pressed and made my June end with a bang. I could’ve voted it the surprise, but I think this is its rightful home.
Most Helpful Post:  *** Hands down, my most productive and helpful post is: 100 Top Inspirational & Motivational Books by Women … it speaks for itself. 🙂  I’ll also add   SITS Featured Blogger: Ten Tips – How to Show Our Gratitude before Eating Thanksgiving Dinner This Year  This was really about giving people tips on how to make Thanksgiving meaningful to others as well as ourselves.  It was a timely post and set the tone for the season in many homes.
A Post Whose Success Surprised Me:  Meetup Mondays Blog Hop: Add A Blog Post & Join In The Fun This was my post on my first blog hop venture on WordPress. It got a lot of attention and helped us carry the blog hop forward. I am now reminded to offer another hop in the coming week; I had set it aside as other demands grew.
Most Controversial Post:  Positive Attitude: What’s With All the Positive Shtick?  Now, the topic isn’t controversial at all. Frankly, I don’t do controversy but I chose this one because of the way the group effort ended. Of the 100 initial bloggers who signed up, a bunch never made the rounds to comment on 99 other blogs; they were glad to get comment love but didn’t give back. Then, there were some unpleasant exchanges at the end of the challenge that left some of us feeling jarred.
A Post that Didn’t Get The Attention It Deserved:  Ten Reasons to Blog: Your Ego can Handle it!  I chose this from my early blogging days and feel it should’ve done better. A lot of effort and research went into it, but it got little play. Those were trying days and it lacked attention.
Post I’m Most Proud Of:  Hello World  It was my very first post in November 2008 and I labored over it like a mother delivering her precious baby. I had no idea what would become of my blogging efforts, but I knew I’d stay the course; come rain or shine.

Now I have to tag five bloggers who have to share their special seven… but you know the drill. I picked all of you: You, You, and You!!! Now go multiply 😳  or rather, go share your seven and I’ll be by to cheer you on. I promise. What about you? How do you feel about sharing? Is it hard to choose when you have many you admire?  What are your 7 posts? Which is your favorite? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Remember the things we share and applaud them.  “I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too, So we’re really not that different, me and you.” Colin Raye

Isn’t it a terrific way to sort through our posts and share some good stuff? Go for it Jane and hopefully, I’ll have mine done before you complete and share yours… 😆

  2. 25/07/2011 12:06 am

Nicely done Eliz. I think you are the most generous person I know!!

    • 25/07/2011 12:31 am

The sentiments are mutual Chris… and I love what you’ve been doing with that other 3 blog award gift. Terrific! 🙂

  3. 25/07/2011 12:18 am

Great idea, thank you! Are you going to repeat this, monthly or quarterly? This time I’m going to give it a miss though – as of now I’ve only got, er…, 6 posts :-/
Your post is just sparking off something… How about turning this system into a sort of free informal blogging support network: Once a month, participants feature links to their 7 favourite posts by other bloggers who in turn become part of the chain? (Does that make sense or is it too early for the logical part of my brain?)

    • 25/07/2011 12:28 am

Great idea and why not! It is making the rounds and nothing should stop us all from doing a monthly blog catch up with the same prompts or a modified version. What do y’all think? 🙂

  4. 25/07/2011 3:08 am

Hi Eliz,,,it was so difficult to choose 5 bloggers that I chose four then cheated on the fifth, by leaving the fifth spot open and asked for volunteers. The nice thing was I was then contacted by a new blogger “sami” in Australia who wanted some blog love and followers. I immediately added her and it made her day!

    🙂

    • 25/07/2011 3:49 am

I can imagine the challenge of picking so few people; that is a reason why I skipped it.
Good thing Sami benefited and thanks again for the tag. 😉

  5. 25/07/2011 4:26 am

I don’t think I could pick 7; I barely remember what I posted last week.

    • 02/09/2011 5:32 am

Te he! It wasn’t so easy either as there were other posts that called out and they would fit too… It was a good exercise in revisiting some posts and tweaking things a little. 🙂

  6. 25/07/2011 5:02 am

Thank you for the related article link 🙂

Thank you too for your contributions to the subject matter! 🙂

“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” If only we all think and live like these, the World would be a paradise. Love this post. Thanks for inviting everyone. just like you, I feel bad when someone is left out of the special gathering. I’ve yet to come out with seven posts. The buddies are a challenge too. Everyone is unique and gifted in their own way. But topping the list for me is you. You had been a consistent , generous blogger friend. Thank you.

    • 02/09/2011 5:35 am

The sentiments are mutual as you have been as generous to us as we to you… I truly believe it works both ways… You give a lot too. TY! 🙂

  8. 25/07/2011 9:41 am

I like your first post because it must be new challenge for you.
Now you have tons of blog friends and happiness.:)

    • 02/09/2011 5:36 am

Yes, it was a huge challenge and took a lot of work to get things f going… I am still a work of of progress as a blogger… TY 🙂

    Elizabeth,
It’s difficult to pick only 7 but you have some beautiful (hehe, there’s that word again!) selections.
Way to go. Congratulations on making your baby something you’re proud of.
    Waiting for your other posts,
    Marcia

    • 02/09/2011 5:38 am

Thanks for the feedback… these were some birthing seven and I’m not truly done with the list… It’s all good! 🙂

  10. 25/07/2011 10:24 am

Picking posts is difficult enough. As to how you highlight them so peple can highlight them quickly. Thats another matter altogether. I lost my spell check button somehow whilst I was writing this morning. Now who knows what errors will sneak under the door of any new post | do

    • 02/09/2011 5:41 am

Oh dear, I hope you find your spell check soon… Picking seven wasn’t as easy as I expected and so, I had to accept that it was about something greater than myself. 🙂

  11. 25/07/2011 11:14 am

Eliz, I appreciate your inclusiveness. This wasn’t my challenge but Tripbase, which is a very cool site and blog. They wanted it to cross all blog genres and I thought it was a great idea. They want to highlight some of the posts in the challenge on their blog as it goes on. You should go check out their site and let them know how you’ve finished the challenge.
    Thanks,
    b

Hi Barb! I did check out the site… It was cool and all… I will visit again. I missed this message last month.

  12. 25/07/2011 2:48 pm

You’ve summed up my misgivings with tagging so perfectly! I was the child who never received invites to “exclusive” parties, and who only had classmates show up at mine because (as they’d loudly explain to their friends) “Mom made me come!” Though not being invited to events doesn’t bug my adult self, I hate doing anything that would contribute to a perception I don’t value immensely each of the blogging friends I’ve made over the last five months. I’m hereby adopting your (guilt-free) approach!

    • 02/09/2011 5:46 am

Yep… Your sentiments are mine, and that is why I love the idea to just give it all away… TY! 🙁

  13. 25/07/2011 4:21 pm

I loved it. Thanks for brightening my birthday with your “best of”!

  14. 25/07/2011 9:06 pm

    Hi Eliz

I saw this post format over at Marcia’s blog Inside Journeys. It’s a great idea. I’ve decided to do this for my blog’s one-year anniversary.

    • 02/09/2011 5:49 am

Got the post and thank you for the additional update… I’ll support you at the finish lines… 🙂

  15. 25/07/2011 11:47 pm

    Beautiful post, E!

I’m often surprised as I peruse the stacks of past posts and find hidden gems that I barely remember writing. 😀

    • 02/09/2011 5:50 am

TY Nancy! It was very interesting to stay focused… 🙂

  16. 26/07/2011 11:54 am

Picking only 5 fellow bloggers is hard! I think you found a great solution to this 🙂

  17. 26/07/2011 2:12 pm

Congrats and thanks for passing this on to all your blogging buddies! I plan to get started on this sometime this week…it should be fun! 🙂

    • 02/09/2011 5:53 am

Good job and I hope you have enough to keep you comfortable… 🙂
