Today, the Weekly Photo Challenge calls for our All-Time Favorites, and there is a bittersweet reason for it. The Daily Post staff who have managed the Photo Challenges are wishing us a fond farewell. In the 6+ years I’ve participated in the WP Photo Challenge, I’ve learned a lot about the depth and breadth of creative photography. It’s been a fantastic ride, and like all rides, it eventually comes to a stop. In this case, we were informed that this would be the last assignment in the series. I am saddened but, I feel galvanized to continue creating my own Photo Challenges so I don’t become lazy. I thank the WP DP staffers for guiding us all these years, and I hope they will offer periodic photo challenges to keep us on our toes. That said, I believe that Farewells are never endings… they are the beginning of something new.

They have all been terrific guides, and I am grateful for their dedication over the last 6+ years. I do hope to continue in some form and fashion, so join in and let’s keep this going. Photography is not just a form of creative expression; it is a repository of memories and personal history. I can look back at my photos and remember when…

Are you a photography buff? How do you stay connected to your craft? I make it a point of duty to take photos every day. I take a lot of them with my smartphone, but occasionally I pick up my DSLR and take many more. Even though the final installment called for our all-time favorites, I decided to go back to my first love in photography… nature and flowers. Most of the shots are from the Orchid Exhibition I attended last month at the NY Botanical Garden. I chose to feature them because I used my DSLR and loved the many beautiful orchids I photographed. I threw in a few flowers from my neighborhood gardens and will upload a few more from my other favorite photography spots: the Croton Aqueduct and the Hudson River. Stay tuned!
A prompt from WP Daily Post inspired this post: – All Time Favorites – In the final edition of the Weekly Photo Challenge, Daily Post staff contributors share their favorite photos and invite you to do the same. When I suggested starting the Weekly Photo Challenge in 2011 (most of the early prompt topics came from me, and I later started publishing them directly that year), I never thought we’d still be doing it each week more than seven years later! Photography and words are wonderful ways to express ourselves, and while we respond to writing, our eyes crave something visual, too. I hope you continue to express yourselves and reveal the “Layers” within you. — Sara

Great shots, love the color and depth of field. Sometimes it is nice to get out and shoot non-work related stuff for me as a photographer.
Yes, I hear you… that helps me with the creative aspects of life.
In college I was a literary major and John Keats was one of my favorite poets. These words sing to me. “I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.” -John Keats All of the flowers shown are really beautiful.
Thank yo so much… I love Keats too. 🙂
I’ve been dreaming to start photography. I started watching video tutorials and stuff. I hope one day to participate and share my craft too.
The Photo Challenge has ended. You can join other internet communities and start today.
I love this quote “I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.” by John Keats. I was really enjoying these photo challenges. I am sorry that it has come to an end 🙁
Yes… I chose it for the sentiment. The photography community felt that way to me… acceptance of all regardless of skill level.
Gorgeous photos. Beauty at every turn. Also love the line- ‘The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”
Good to see you here Aditi. TY!
Wow, those flowers are incredible! I love all the colors!
They are exotic orchids and I love them too.
It is sad to see it end, the weekly challenge was my main motivation for blogging
Truly sad… it inspired me too. I always looked forward to it and would then start figuring out how to interpret it all. My readers enjoyed them too.
These photos are all beautiful! I love the pink, purple, and white flowers that you showed. I’m never good at keeping flowers alive inside very welll, but I’d love to start a garden in the yard one day. Thanks for sharing!
Start small… container gardens are a great way to get started.
These are certainly some gorgeous favorites. I can see how they made it to your list. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate reading these posts and seeing your lovely photos!

I’ve always wanted to try photography and even considered enrolling in a class. I might do this time. These are gorgeous pictures and thank you very much for sharing this post!
Take a class… join a photography group. There is a lot on the internet. This was special because it was a community that lasted over 6 years.
Your photos are gorgeous! Good luck in the challenge
🙂
I cannot believe it’s over, it’s been amazing seeing how bloggers would interpret the theme for the week and what they have to say about it. The photos have always been a breath of fresh air!
That was a huge part of it. Even though life’s demands made it hard to visit as many of the others as I used to do in the past, I loved the range I saw on the main page.
I agree that farewells are never endings.. They are the beginnings of something new. Hoping that you continue your creativity through your own inner motivation. Beautiful pictures as usual.
Thank you and yes, I will. 🙂
I love taking snaps. These photos look just super stunning. Would make nice canvas prints x
Thanks Melanie… I was thinking of trying out a new photo friendly template. Might still do.
Photography is a way of capturing life’s perfect moments. Those little things we take for granted everyday, when photographed takes on a whole new meaning. Thank you for weekly inspiration you’ve provided us all these years. Not saying good bye, just “see you around!”
Thank you Eileen. yes, see you around. 🙂
I can’t believe it’s goodbye! I’ve always liked the themes and the photos that you post for the weekly theme. It’s been so nice seeing how bloggers interpret the theme for the week.
Yes, I will miss the suddenness of it all… Will go back to the year I missed, 2013, and do those
I did so love seeing your weekly photos, they are always so inspiring! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you .
Wow, 6 year and now it’s done. I’m sure another will pick it up as the themes they have chosen to inspire so many are unique and thought provoking. I can’t wait to see though what you have in store. Will you come up with challenges on your own now or finding a new photo challenge to follow?
I will come up with my own and incorporate the themes I missed over the years. Thank you! Stay Tuned!
Oh no, I didn’t realize the challenge is over. It was great seeing all of the blogger interaction while it lasted. Thank you.
This week has been a long and rough one. I really needed a bit of motivation
I loved the quote from John Keats and learning never exhausts the mind by Leonardo Davinci. The flowers are beautiful.
Beautiful photos. Like you and many others I’m saddened that The Daily post and WPC will no longer be around to inspire us.
These photos are beautiful, I love all the different flowers and colors.
It’s so sad to see that the Photo Challenge has ended, I participated a long time ago, and I’ve always liked to take part in the Daily Post challenges from time to time.
^ years and now it done, what will become of your weekly photo challenges? Will you challenge yourself along with others or are you now in search for a new weekly photo challenge board?

Very beautiful photos. I love pictures of flowers! You are really talented. I am a beginniner photographer and I practice every day to become better.
I always love a good photo challenge to push me to get creative. Sometimes they are the guiding light in getting me out of a rut. I always like a new challenge to get the creative juices flowing.
Sad to see the high quality challenges enduring a change, but I’m sure you’ll find additional inspiration. Seeing the beauty in all of the details of nature is one topic I’d like to photograph myself.
Oh, I’m also saddened that this challenge comes to an end, but I am also looking forward to what you will show us in the future!!
I am also saddened that this photo challenge comes to an end! But I’m looking forward to what you will show us in the future!
how colorful and full of life are these flowers! I guess they must have such a great perfume! All these ideas, transmitted by such amazing pics
What beautiful photos! They would all be so beautiful to frame too! Sad to see that you’re ending this!
I love the quotes here especially the quote about only being able to improve our self. That is so true.
I’m so addicted to photography and at the moment , I enjoy having picture of myself although I’d want to have pictures of other stuff too. Anyway, 6+ years into the WP challenge is no joke and ever time, you come up with ideas to impress. Today’s is no different and even look better with the pictures of flowers. Amazing!
I absolutely love great photos of flowers. I really need to take out my own camera and grab some good shots while the flowers are blooming before it gets too hot and they start drying out and dying off.
The NY botanical garden was gorgeous when we visited many years ago, these photos make me want to go back! I have enjoyed seeing so many of your completed photo challenges, I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Amazing photos. Also loved the quote you included “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. – Lao Tzu” It’s always better to start smaller that never trying things at all. Keep up the good work.
Yes I’m a photography buff and one of things I specifically implement is a “photography playdate”. Where I take one afternoon a month and go out and photograph something. Usually with a focus on learning my camera better, or composition. Definitely challenging and helps my photography a lot
Orchids are one of my favorites. They have such a unique shape compared to the rest of the flowers.
Farewells are definitely not goodbyes. I love these flowers and all your photos have been great! I will miss the challenges
Those flowering blooming are so unique and beautiful! They remind me of Georgie O’keefe art!

I always love your photo challenge posts and I do hope you continue them. I, too, love photographing nature and flowers. My go to is always my smartphone because it is always on me, but I am trying to shoot more with my mirrorless.
Wow I am loving all these orchids and the flowers! My mom is a huge fan and I always do my best to find her a unique type of orchid for her collection
Farewells are never endings… they are the beginning of something new! I’m looking forward to see more of your photo challenges. Btw, I love the pictures in this post!
Goodbyes are really sad but it happens. Just keep in mind for every closure comes another opportunity. Sooner or later, we realize it was such a blessing. We just have to move on and grow.
Your post is so motivational! Persistence, perseverance and permanence show character! And no matter how strong you are there is one thing you can never do without and that’s love!
That is definitely bittersweet!!! I know you have really enjoyed your weekly challenges, and they are fun to see each week too! These flowers are so stunning, too! <3
I remember coming into this a year and a half ago and seeing all of the amazing pictures you took. Kind of took comfort in seeing all your visuals and how you could use them to make stories. Will definitely be sad to see it all go.
Me too… I will continue
Your love for flowers shines through in each photo. Beautiful theme for favorites, Elizabeth. <3
Wow, what breathtaking photos. You really have an eye for capturing the beauty of these flowers in a photo!
This flower collection is just too awesome! Sorry, I didn’t read you post anymore. I just looked at the photos. I haven’t seen some of these orchid varieties in reality, even though I have been to many garden shows already!
I would miss your photo challenges if you stopped doing them, I’m so glad that you will continue to post your own challenges. You have a great an eye with the camera, your photos are always stunning.
I have absolutely loved following this amazing challenge and seeing all of the gorgeous photographs!
I am not much in photography but I like your clicks very much. The vibrancy of colour is something that I love the most actually. It is nice that this photochallenge has been completed successfully with a lot of good impact. ☺
I could look at photos of flowers all day long! So beautiful and inspiring. I am a photographer though these days do not do as much with it as I should. I find nicer weather though gives me more motivation to grab my camera and get outside and shoot.
I’m so sorry about this. Farewells are so sad but I’m sure something better will come along! I’ve always enjoyed these and all the positive quotes and the weekly devotions.
That is such a shame it has ended but it sounds like you had an incredible journey honing in on your skills and having great inspiration. I hope you keep being inspired as your posts are always so deep and thought provoking!

These photos are gorgeous if all the different variety of lowers Such beautiful vibrant colours all captured in the most gorgeous way.
“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” Never said it better. The colours in the photos are amazing
It’s a shame that it’s come to an end. On a positive note you have learnt about depth and breadth of photography. Your photos are truly beautiful x
So the photo challenge is ending? I am sad to see it end. I am glad that the photos you’ve shared have helped uplift me each time I visit. I hope that you will continue sharing photos!
This is such a nice post and I always enjoy reading every post that you made but a bit sad because this photo challenge was ended up.
These pictures are fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
I imagine it must be somewhat bittersweet to bid farewell to the weekly photo challenges. I’ve come to enjoy seeing what you put together each week. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing you continue to put forth some type of challenge on your own!
I actually loved looking through your posts because it was different than the average posts I read. It actually allowed you to think and use your mind. I would love to see this take off again in some form. Best wishes!
Thank you Elizabeth for sharing all the beautiful photos and inspiring posts you’ve shared with us. It was really uplifting and educational. I am going to miss reading Photo Challenges.

Such amazing pictures, but I can see where you want to move on to something new. Here’s to even better things!
It is true that change is the only constant. This challenge was super cool to read on your blog. I love photography myself and would love to improve my skill.
I am still learning photography and keep taking photographs from my DSLR and phone. The pictures you took for the photo challenges were beautiful and I am happy that you are planning to continue these posts.
You really did well in this photo challenge. You have a wonderful collection. Congratulations! 😀
The photos of the flowers are so pretty! The quotes that accompany the photos are inspiring as well.
Such beautiful floral photos! Remember that the end of an era is always the start of a new one
So sad it’s over!! I hope I will see you again doing these kind of posts, I find them so inspiring to read. You are so good with words and photography!
Right now I’m feeling a bit down because I’m all over the place and I can’t focus 100% to my photography and blog because it’s still is my side hustle so I find it hard to stay motivated and shoot often.
What interesting flowers. They are very pretty. I love that flowers can be so beautiful.
This post shows your resilience and positive-ness. I’m sure you will find something to fill its void because you are a go getter. Best wishes in your next adventure!
I’m more of a writer than a photographer but I have a book of writing exercises to keep my creativity flowing. Love these photos . . . orchids are my favorite!
I really love orchids as it is our National flower in Singapre. Totally agree with nothing is permanent and always be prepared for any changes in our life.
Aww, that is sad… but great photos! I can never keep up with the challenges 😂.
I love that everyone can be a novice photographer now thanks to smartphones. I love to take pictures and feel like I have a bit of an eye for it but have never bought a proper camera. Amazing photos!
Beautiful shots. I love orchids. Friends I visit in Taiwan have a relative who owns an orchid shop. I always go in and spend hours taking photos of the different kinds and colors of orchids on display.
It’s a shame when things that we got used to have to end, especially after so many years. I think the photo challenge was a great idea and made people get out of their houses and enjoy nature, whilst doing something motivational: taking photos.
