✿♡✿Happy Valentine’s Day!✿♡✿
Love is a wondrous thing and, on Valentine’s Day, lovers meet, bearing gifts and sweet words. Every year, some ask the same question: Why show such effusive love only on the 14th? Why is no lover coming for me? As much as we love the festivities, Valentine’s Day can bring up painful memories of unrequited love, shattered dreams and long gone lovers… Do you remember your first Valentine? Your happiest Valentine? Your saddest one? No matter what memories we hold, they all count for something and add to our treasure box of life stories that we carry with us; sometimes as scars, sometimes as sacred events. Our treasure box is precious, and needs refueling but, some of us forget to take care of ourselves as we run around attending to others. How can we learn and grow?

On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 2.14.13, we are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

Today is the 15th anniversary of V-Day – a global movement to end violence against women and girls. In conjunction with this anniversary is the launch of One Billion Rising which encourages women to stand up, walk out, speak out, rise up, and demand an end to violence. This day of love is as good a day to bring this topic to the fore. This is important to becoming stronger and maintaining self love. More below.

Stop All Criticism.          Forgive Yourself.
Don’t Scare Yourself.     Be Gentle and Kind and Patient.
Be Kind to Your Mind.    Praise Yourself.
Recently, I read an article “Do You Love Yourself?” by inspirational author Louise Hay. In the article, Louise offers twelve important tools/tips on self love that we can use to help us grow. They are powerful, common sense, self explanatory tips (See first set of six above), and this is the perfect time to add them to our daily routine. We spend so much time trying to get others to love us, we forget to praise, love or be kind to ourselves.  If our tank is empty, and we spend time criticizing every fault,  terrorizing ourselves with negative thoughts, we cannot love others fully, therefore, self care is imperative. More below!

Support Yourself.                       Do Mirror Work.
Be Loving to Your Negatives.   Love Yourself . . . Do It Now.
Take Care of Your Body.          Have Fun.

Regardless of our beliefs or issues about love, it can be both exhilarating and enervating. It can make us hot and freeze us out…  We know what to do but often we don’t do much to help us move forward. If we don’t practice the tips above as part of our self love regimen; if we don’t look in a mirror and applaud our effort or care for our bodies, we leave ourselves open to the whim of the winds.  Instead of vacillating, we should embrace our experiences, bundle them and the tips up, tie them with a glorious bow, and offer them to the Gods. In loving ourselves, we can ask for a compassionate lover, a lasting companion, gratitude for loved ones, grace for future loves, and above all, blessings for Divine Love.

This was inspired partly by a Daily Post Prompt: Daily Prompt: Shoulda Woulda Coulda.  Tell us about something you know you should do . . . but don’t.

Today, when you open your cards, smell your roses, and eat your Valentine’s Day chocolates, send a heartfelt wish of love to those who won’t be able to celebrate in the same way. Carry a goodwill thought in your heart and trust that your kindness will reverberate and come back to you enriched and fired in the kiln of unconditional, far reaching love… ✿♡✿Happy Valentine’s Day!✿♡✿

*Please bear with me as I’m finally beginning to catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! :-)

Positive Motivation Tip: Lift yourself up with compassion and love, then do same for others.

No flowers, no chocolate and I cooked the tea, but we’re still in recovery from my daughter’s wedding and glad of the simple life. (actually, he still has a Chocolate Orange left from Christmas!!! that I have my eye on)
    Happy times to you.

    • 17/02/2013 4:52 am

  7. 14/02/2013 4:37 pm

When one does not self love, it probably is when one Expects roses from someone …. Some years ago, in the workplace, there was a competition of getting flowers on the V-day. 😀 … Awesome post, Elizabeth!

    • 17/02/2013 5:04 am

TY Amy! I’m interested in hearing more about your observations and that workplace competition. I think because of the pressure to show love with things, many feel disappointed on this day and forget that love is more than all the choco-floral-stuff we might get. 🙂

  8. 14/02/2013 6:08 pm

Love yourself. Do it now. Hmmmm…

    • 17/02/2013 10:06 am

Yes, my dear! We have to or it could lead to greater pain down the road. 🙂 TY!

  9. 14/02/2013 7:20 pm

You hit the nail on the head, Eliz. Sorry for the cliche, but we can’t love others until we love and take care of ourselves.
    Happy Valentine’s Day! 🙂

    • 17/02/2013 10:30 am

Yes, Tracy and it is so sad about what happened in South Africa with the beautiful Reeva and Oscar. We don’t hurt others when we love our life and cherish life. 🙂

  10. 14/02/2013 7:21 pm

    Thank you!

  11. 14/02/2013 7:44 pm

it’s beautiful how you think of others 🙂 x annie

I hope you did too.. It was quiet in these quarters. It’s all good. 🙂

  14. 15/02/2013 4:22 am

Maggie was part of the V-day flash mob you mentioned at the beginning of this post. She was in class (Univ of Central Florida) and they heard the music starting so everyone ran outside . She said it was quite the experience!
hope you had a wonderful day!!
ps. something neat happened to me too, yesterday….my blog got the most likes ever for one day! that’s like receiving lots of great Valentines!!! 🙂

    • 17/02/2013 11:45 am

  16. 15/02/2013 4:47 pm

Nicely done. I have taken note.

    • 17/02/2013 1:03 pm

TY Jacqui and Congrats on your upcoming book! 🙂

  17. 15/02/2013 9:03 pm

15th anniversary of V-Day: Yes, I also talked about OneBillionRising. Amazing! On the holiday of love at that!

    • 17/02/2013 1:05 pm

That was something special and the timing is symbolic… We need more loving action towards one another in this world of ours. TY! 🙂

  18. 15/02/2013 10:18 pm

This is lovely, Eliz. How is it possible that this is the 15th anniversary and I’ve never heard of OneBillionRising? I really haven’t. But such an important message. I’ll be more tuned in to this movement in the future.

    • 17/02/2013 1:21 pm

Because it didn’t start out with that name. It is part of Eve Ensler’s V’ Day! It was launched this year. So you have been tuned into news that impacts women and didn’t miss a thing. TY! 🙂

  19. 17/02/2013 7:04 pm

Valentine’s Day wasn’t something we celebrated when I was growing up so I never got into V-D. Self love is definitely a more empowering way of celebrating the day. Thanks for this post, Elizabeth.

    • 18/02/2013 9:36 am

TY too Marcia! Valentine’s Day only came into play when i was a teen but not in a serious way. Now there is so much commercialization around it that you can’t help but feel pressured by it all… TY! Lets show love year round I say. 😉

  20. 19/02/2013 2:54 am

Like cupid striking my heart this words and visuals stirs our emotions to love…generously! Happy Valentine’s day!

  21. 19/02/2013 3:14 pm

Eliz, I’m a bit late in reading your Valentine’s post, but still so many beautiful ideas in here, that I just wanted to say thank you for sharing them. Hope your Valentine’s Day was marvelous! 🙂 Karen

  22. 19/02/2013 6:27 pm

I gotta say. I checked all 12 requirements. I probably love myself too much. Ahihihihi 😆

  23. 19/02/2013 6:30 pm

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s day!
For me love is universal and this special day doesn’t mean to be with your lover only but also with your friends, your family. Because that’s love as well right? 🙂 Beautiful post!

    • 19/02/2013 7:42 pm

Well said and I agree with you… All good on my end. 😉

  24. 21/02/2013 12:56 am

Happy Valentines – belated, I know! Hope you had a wonderful day!

    • 17/06/2013 12:11 pm
