Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… Mongoose Home

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… Mongoose Home
Most of us are familiar with the quote “Home is where the heart is…” It is one of my favorites as I heard it quite often when I was growing up. We moved a lot and it became a mantra of sorts as we prepared for our next home in a new city. My dad had a strong work ethic which brought promotions for him and a move for all of us. We also moved several times during a war, and that period of our life left an indelible mark on me; I learned that we must cherish what we have, and love where we rest our heart and head. The Mongoose above have learned that and share their space happily. For this challenge, I’ve chosen to add pictures of other life forms in their homes or habitat. We may call them home lessons learned from other life forms.
“Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… Nyala at Home

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… Tangy at home
A while back, I took a trip to the Bronx Zoo and was nicely surprised at how hard the staff worked to make the animals feel at home. They recreated their natural habitat and gave them plenty of room to roam. Now, I think of life on the Serengeti and imagine how, for the Nyala antelope above, it would be one fraught with danger from man and beast. Here, they were relaxed and unperturbed by our presence… Tangy, our family cat, creates new homes in bags and boxes and anything he can climb into. He knows he is loved and when he isn’t on the computer, he chills out. Home is where we find love and peace. More below!
“Be grateful for the home you have, knowing that at this moment, all you have is all you need.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… A Duck Farm home

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home… Deer at home
During the summer months, the deer like to gather with their off spring and hang out in our backyard. The trio above, a mom with her two kids, have stayed in our yard through fall and winter and we’ve watched the babies grow. They feel safe and know we won’t bother them. So they come back again and again… I hope they stay safe but it’s hard to predict. I took the photos a couple of weeks ago from my kitchen window. They saw me and kept grazing, sometimes they stared back. Then they sat and relaxed, they even took a nap. Home is where we feel safe…
I added the photo of the duck farm which I shot up in Rhinebeck, NY, because I thought it was interesting to mull over. The ducks are raised for other farms and sold for meat; some will live out their lives on the farm and others will leave. Something about it got me thinking of all those folk struggling to save their homes and the painful outcomes many continue to grapple with. Two messages are conveyed here: Home is where we feel safe or where, for some, there is an illusion of safety. So we say, with gratitude, there but for the grace of God, go I! Thank YOU ALL For Your Support and Patience… Do come back soon and I will be visiting you all shortly too. Thank you! Have a great weekend and thanks again for stopping by!
*Please bear with me as I continue to catch up on reading and commenting on your blogs. Thank you all for your patience!
This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Home. In a new post specifically created for this challenge, share a picture that evokes HOME for you! It might be the place where you live, or a more abstract representation, or something completely different. Can’t wait to see what you do with this challenge!
My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. I added some from Zemanta and a few from WP Daily Post below. Check out how others interpreted the theme – HOME – also see below. ***
Positive Motivation Tip: Each of us carries a special cherished memory of home; either as we wished it to be or as it was. Hold it close to your heart… Happy February!

The Sarah Ban Breathnach quote is kind of mantra…All I have is All I need.
It’s important to stop and remember that when worry starts to creep in.
Thanks Elizabeth!

I just love this, Elizabeth. Beautiful 😀
Oh Dianne, TY so much and for your patience too. 😉
Lovely take on Home.. Love the nyala!! Home is definitely the spirit and not necessarily the walls!!
Aren’t they the cutest? TY for your feedback Lisa! 🙂
Excellent idea to feature homes of creatures that live so near (and far) from us. Great interpretation of the theme.
TY for your feedback… Animals are more forgiving of our foibles an I love observing them. 😆
Interesting interpretation of “home.” And thanks too for the pingback!
TY for your comment and I will return the visit soon. 🙂
I like the photos of the cats!
Our cats love boxes too, but I’ve never been able to get a picture. They always jump out when they see I have the camera!
I hope you do sometime and then share them on your blog… Maybe you can invite them to pose. I sometimes ask mine to pose and, depending on his mood, he obliges me. TY for stopping by! 🙂

I’ve always been fascinated by Mongoose – never seen one except TV though. My fav is the duck farm pic …it’s peaceful 🙂
The mongoose are so cute too. TY! Glad you like the Duck farm photo… It’s a beautiful setting.
What a lovely post, Elizabeth. I love how you incorporated both your story and the homes of animals into your narrative. Great photos, too! 😉
TY TRS ! I’m you liked it. i wasn’t sure what would work but once I settle on the animals, it all made sense. 🙂
I know it’s such a cliche, but it is quite true most of the time —- Home is where our heart is.
TY! Home is indeed where our hearts feel at rest… I love it too! 🙂
I’ve never seen a mongoose home before. Very cool!
Glad you like this one… I suspect they live in other housing conditions too. 🙂
Very very nice!, great post..
TY for your feedback! 😉
Wonderful quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Blogging about the concept of home at a zoo was quite interesting. Of course – loved your photos of your cute kitty!
TY Kris! I chuckled when I read your comment… Interesting isn’t it? 🙂 Sometimes, home might not be our place of birth but the place where we are fully loved and welcomed.
Lovely thoughts, Elizabeth 🙂
TY Cee! 😉
there is no place like home…interesting to see what a mongoose home looks like & of course, all the places Tangy has found to be comfortable & warm. 🙂
TY Sunshine I knew you’d like Tangy’s photos… The mongoose house was interesting to me too… I think they live in other types of structures with similar conditions. 🙂
mongoose reminds me of squirrels, in a way. oh, you’re welcome too.
may your week flow peacefully, Elizabeth! ♥
What great photos–in particular your kitty! 🙂 So completely at home! The Ben Franklin quote is absolutely perfect, and I really agree with that. We don’t need to accumulate material things as much as we can cultivate a special environment when we’re challenged by ideas and thought and conversation. What a lovely post…the mongoose home is quite a challenge for me to visualize, even with a picture! LOL!
TY Debra! This was a fun one to do… more so because home means so many different things to different people. The way I see it, where love welcomes us with an open heart, there home is… 🙂
Great cat photos. cats always say ‘home’ 🙂
TY Tilly! Indeed they do… and Tangy is always happy to be home. 😉
Home is where we feel safe, where we can be who we are. Great post, Elizabeth.
Each photo creates a warmth and love that only a home brings.
There is no place like home. I love that the theme today is about home. I really enjoyed looking at your photos!
