An Edge: Easter Gifts #HappyEaster

27/03/2016

“Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal, and new life.” Janine di Giovanni

An Edge: Easter Gifts #HappyEaster - good cheer

An Edge: Easter Gifts #HappyEaster – good cheer

We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won’t need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call attention to their shining – they just shine. Dwight L. Moody

Happy Easter! Why An Edge? If you started the new year making all sorts of resolutions to achieve a number of goals, this Easter gives you a chance to stop, take stock, and determine whether you have an edge over your goals or if you need to ramp up your efforts with renewed vigor. We are 3 months ( 1/4  year) into 2016 and it is never too late to reignite our passions and get working on making our plans stick. Easter, as a special day of celebration, offers us gifts to help us along. One of the special gifts we receive at Easter is a spirit of renewal; it is a time of rebirth and an opportunity to start afresh again. We can resurrect plans we set aside and take that extra edge off by accomplishing all the things we put aside. Another gift of Easter is a return to Hope; as we look around us and contemplate the conflicts and instability around the world, we can build up Hope by focusing on participating in good works for our communities and ourselves.

Life is full of surprises and it is easy to have our best plans derailed by unforeseen circumstances. If you’ve experienced any challenging events, this year, that put one or more of the looks our funny Easter eggs above are sporting, on your face, know that you are not alone. Take the edge off by recommitting your self to overcome any stumbling blocks. Breathe new life into your goals. You can do it! #HappyEaster!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Half-Light

25/03/2016

“We must not always try to plumb the depths of the human heart; the truths it contains are among those that are best seen in half-light or in perspective.” François R. Chateaubriand

Weekly Photo Challenge: Half-Light

Weekly Photo Challenge: Half-Light – Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge, Manhattan Skyline

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. Desmond Tutu
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. Charles Dickens

For this week’s Photo Challenge assignment on Half-Light, I chose two poems that spoke to that mystical time of day when dusk comes calling but hasn’t quite made it to nighttime. There is a beauty in the sky and a calming effect that makes us pause and inhale the evening air.  When I think of the photos that would be suitable for the subject of half-light, I think of sunset, evening light … dusk. I have to admit though that what kept popping up in my mind was sunset, not that in between time.  This one was tougher to do but, I learned something new about capturing another time of day and the shots that fit in that space. I know I have some in my files that would be perfect but, I need to take new ones. Have a Happy Easter Weekend! Enjoy the shots!

An Evening Light – Poem by David Taylor via PoemHunter
An evening light
not so very bright
as hardened shadow’s kiss
nor so dark
that as in night’s embrace
I deeply fall asleep again.
That evening light
that slows down time
as homeward many race
to slumber
in our dream like beds.
It brings with it such a peace
such as in complete
completion ends
and knowing It is
and all else
that in Its light appearance seems
is imagined in that bliss.

Haiku: From Hearts, Voices And Frayed Nerves…

23/03/2016

“In every man’s heart there is a secret nerve that answers to the vibrations of beauty.” Christopher Morley

Haiku: From Our Hearts, Voices & Nerves...

Haiku: From Our Hearts, Voices & Frayed Nerves…

The latest terror
Violence rends flesh to shreds
smashed hearts, voices … nerves

Coursing through sinews
Hate seeks to end global peace
Clinging to warped tales

Can we build bridges?
From hearts, voices, and frayed nerves
To heal … our wounded

With hearts of courage
Love’s peaceful pathway triumphs
Against the terror

The many recent acts of terror around the world have left us confounded and deeply concerned. We have seen and heard of the carnage, and each incident in any part of the world is an attempt to derail the path to peaceful coexistence. We must not stay silent. Use your voice to teach those around you that violence is never an answer to discontent…
