Motivation Mondays: Goodbye March!
“Our life is March weather, savage and serene in one hour.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Motivation Mondays: Goodbye March!
Considering all the events that occurred in March, some heartbreaking, others uplifting, mindshifting, or distressing, it is well to bid this month adieu. The thing with goodbyes is that they always leave a lingering and a longing behind… We do eventually move on, but then a fragrance wafts through the door on a sunny morning or a display of colorful polo shirts leaps at you, all quite innocently, at a local store, and the floodgates open our hearts wide again, reminding us of precise and specific moments with our loved ones engaged in some innocuous task. Ah, memory is a powerful thing indeed, and nothing brings it back as well as a scent or a sign… It fades, yes, but we don’t forget. Contemplate the poems below. May the coming months bless us all.
Late March by Edward Hirsch (Redacted)✨️
Saturday morning in late March.
I was alone and took a long walk,
though I also carried a book
of the Alone, which companioned me.
Down at the water, the queenly ship
started moving away from the pier.
Banners fluttered.
The passengers clustered at the rails on deck.
I stood with the people on shore and waved
goodbye to the travelers.
Some were jubilant;
others were broken-hearted.
I have always been both.
Suddenly, a great cry went up.
The ship set sail for the horizon
and rumbled into the future
but the cry persisted
and cut the air
like an iron bell ringing
in an empty church.
I looked around the pier
but everyone else was gone
and I was left alone
to peer into the ghostly distance.
I had no idea where that ship was going
but I felt lucky to see it off
and bereft when it disappeared.

Motivation Mondays: Goodbye March!
How often do we put off things we want to do because we think the time isn’t right? How often do we ignore calls from friends or cut our conversations short because some other trivial distraction has caught our attention? How often do we put off establishing a sensible exercise or healthy eating routine? What about time spent in the company of family and close friends? Did you know there are many credible scientific studies showing that strengthening our relationships and friendships can prolong our lives and keep us healthy? A Harvard University report encourages us to focus on strengthening our relationships by spending time with our loved ones and discarding time-wasting activities. Another popular study showed that our friendships are a key social connection that can prolong our lives
Remember – By Christina Rossetti✨️
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Motivation Mondays: Goodbye March!
Be a Blessing to Others – When we wish others well, the stars shower us with grace and goodwill. It is a mistake to believe that because you have X, you should stand in the way of others getting their X. It is also a mistake to believe that your X is more valuable than someone else’s X. All of our X’s have value, and they all matter. A candle is never diminished by sharing its light. When we help others grow, we grow. Take care of your health, encourage others to do the same. Save the judgments for the trash can and burn them in a symbolic funeral pyre. Walk at least 10,000 steps every day, and remember that others need encouragement to journey as far or farther. What we give, we receive. What we withhold will wither away. Stay connected to people who inspire you, and know that you are an inspiration to someone, too. I’m getting off my soapbox now. Stay inspired!
Good-bye by Ralph Waldo Emerson✨️
Good-bye, proud world! I’m going home:
Thou art not my friend, and I’m not thine.
Long through thy weary crowds I roam;
A river-ark on the ocean brine,
Long I’ve been tossed like the driven foam;
But now, proud world! I’m going home.
Good-bye to Flattery’s fawning face;
To Grandeur with his wise grimace;
To upstart Wealth’s averted eye;
To supple Office, low and high;
To crowded halls, to court and street;
To frozen hearts and hasting feet;
To those who go, and those who come;
Good-bye, proud world! I’m going home.
I am going to my own hearth-stone,
Bosomed in yon green hills alone, —
A secret nook in a pleasant land,
Whose groves the frolic fairies planned;
Where arches green, the livelong day,
Echo the blackbird’s roundelay,
And vulgar feet have never trod
A spot that is sacred to thought and God.
O, when I am safe in my sylvan home,
I tread on the pride of Greece and Rome;
And when I am stretched beneath the pines,
Where the evening star so holy shines,
I laugh at the lore and the pride of man,
At the sophist schools, and the learned clan;
For what are they all, in their high conceit,
When man in the bush with God may meet?

March is my birth month and the March of 2026 has really been revolutionary for reasons more than one! Great compilation of motivation poems!
Thank you so much. It’s been so helpful.
Ah, absolutely! A smell or a sight can instantly take you back. Memories may fade, but they never truly leave us.
True that… we can always revisit memory lane.
This is such a positive and uplifting reflection on the month. It’s a great reminder to pause, appreciate progress, and look forward to what’s next.
I agree. We need to remember the good especially when so much has happened.
Farewell to March and welcome April. Spring is finally here, and I’m so excited about that!
I love spring and most especially after a brutal winter.
I love your reflection on March. I’m so ready for April to bring in some nice weather and a fresh sense of energy. It feels like the perfect time for a reset and to step into some fearless motivation and new goals.
Same here…. we all need it.
Bye bye March for me as well. I can’t wait for April and some warmer Spring weather for sure. Great time to reset for me.
I’m ready for April too. Yes, indeed.
March is a month that it really depicts a lot of things. These are great things you have shared.
Which of the things shared did you appreciate most? Nicole?
This post feels like a meaningful pause at the threshold between months. A moment to reflect, release, and realign before stepping into something new. I love how you capture that blend of gratitude for March and quiet anticipation for what’s ahead, which echoes the spirit of growth and self-reflection that runs through your Motivation Mondays series. It’s a gentle but powerful reminder that endings aren’t just conclusions, they’re invitations to begin again with intention and renewed energy.
Yes, indeed. March is one of those months that lends itself to such reflections. It’s the season that ends winter’s hibernation and welcomes spring’s invitation to regroup and reset.
March is usually a good month for us. It’s my wedding anniversary, my younger son’s birthday, and Spring Break is in there so we usually have a lot of time with family during that week.
That is wonderful. It is truly a beautiful time for all types of celebration so you picked a very beautiful and special month.
I must confess I am guilty of sometimes getting distracted and forgetting to return a call or message. It’s easily done. But, I don’t tend to put things off or avoid calls. I’ve been working on strengthening relationships with those worth my time and removing those that bring nothing but negativity into my life. Something I feel everyone should do x
I concur. Toxic relationships are a time and energy drain and I no longer allow them space in my life. We must protect our space at all times.
Spring could not get here fast enough for me. I live in Chicagoland, and it’s been absolutely brutal.
It’s been equally brutal in New York and I’m grateful for the changing seasons.
I love that quote from Hal Borland. Such great wisdom in it. I love March, because it’s the first step to spring
Did you read my entire post?
The part about how a scent or small everyday thing can bring memories rushing back felt especially true to me. March can hold so much at once, and I liked that you didn’t pretend it was all one thing, but made space for both heaviness and hope. A really moving post to end the month with.
Thank you for taking time to read my post because that particular point holds so much importance to me. Thank you!
I love this message. Saying goodbye to one month and welcoming a new one always feels like a fresh start. This was such a lovely way to reflect and reset. –
Thank you. March does have that kind of impact on so many people. A time to start again after a season of hibernation.
Ending March with a bang is very important to start the new month with good vibes or a positive aura. I am happy that there is this kind of post to reflect in the past month,
Thank you. May the new season bring you joy.
I am so ready for April. It brings less wind and warmer temps for my garden season.
Hahaha. I hear you. I’m ready for the warmer weather too. We had a brutal winter.
I always love March as both my kids were born in that month. But I am ready for the Spring! I just love the Spring flowers.
I’m glad you do. Spring is a special time of the year!
I feel like once we get to March, the year starts to fly by. Great quotes, and such a nice time to celebrate the onset of spring.
I love the spring as it is probably one if my best seasons of the year. A time of rebirth, regrowth and renewal.
Such a beautiful and amazing time to reflect and feel blessed in our life, a great moment of experience and understanding to learn and improve.
Yes indeed. Reflection is a great teacher.
No winter lasts forever is what has helped me many times already. What a positive and cheering post. Thank you for doing what you do!
I appreciate your comment because we all go through our versions of winter and ut us helpful to remember that things will/can and do change for the better
This felt like a gentle exhale at the end of the month—almost like March taking a bow before quietly stepping off stage. I really appreciated the way you encouraged reflection, gratitude, and letting go, instead of rushing straight into the next chapter. It’s a beautiful reminder that growth often happens in the pauses, not just the progress.
True… every step leads us closer to the next one. We can pause and inhale or rush through exhaling. The choice is up to us.
