Photo Challenge: Out Of this World?

28/02/2018

“Of all the riches that we hug, of all the pleasures we enjoy, we can carry no more out of this world than out of a dream.” John S. Bonell

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. Albert Einstein
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. Howard Thurman

This week’s Photo Challenge on Out of This World had me thinking about the ways we create photographic content for our challenges. Do we jump at the theme and find the one photo that fits? Do we reach back to a triggered memory and find a way to make it fit? Do we throw our hands up in the air and then seek out an admissible option? You could pursue all three or look for more nuanced considerations. I don’t know… I missed the last two Photo Challenge assignments on Sweet and A Face In the Crowd for a variety of reasons; life, work, and the simple fact that a nasty case of the flu sidelined any creative expression/reflection I might have had to help me through the photography selections. Trust me, I think having a muse is an important requisite of the challenge. Imagine if we all presented photos that were exactly as called for and shared them from the same point of view as shared in the assignment? It would make for a very dull experience. So we all take our own creative leaps and land where we may.

Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile. Franklin P. Jones

Because we come to our Wednesday photography theme from so many different perspectives, photo skill-sets/experiences, and personal philosophies, the diverse contributions make the collection so fascinating to sift through. This is the pivotal reason why I love the range of WP Community members who participate in it. So, as a way to catch up while still honoring today’s photo challenge, Out of This World, I will share a mixture of photos that cover all three subjects… Let’s see if I can come up with a selection worthy of a decent collage. After all, anything can be an out-of-this-world experience if we show enough enthusiasm. right?

The world is a dangerous place. Not because of the people who are evil; but because of the people who don’t do anything about it. Albert Einstein

What inspires your creative expressions? Whether it’s food, nature, people, places, art, or all sorts of unnamed things that inspire your creativity, one thing we know for sure is that we will always find a surprise in the pack. As I gathered my photos, I found myself revisiting some of the memories behind the photos, and they were still present in my heart. Do come back to learn more about the photos I included…

A prompt from WP Daily Post inspired this post:  – OUT OF THIS WORLD –  This week, share a photo that takes a familiar scene — a place you frequent, a face you know well, an activity you engage in regularly — and makes it look and feel like something out of this world. Feel free to interpret the theme as loosely as you see fit. I look forward to seeing your photos!

I guess how people decide what picture to pick for each theme must be more personal perception so I guess it can never really be wrong or incorrect – a bit like how art can never actually be ‘wrong’. I love the pictures you have chosen, It makes me ponder the thought behind everyone.

Out of this world sounds like a really fun challenge. Interpretation is unique and a personal preference but out of this world as you showed through photos could be food, places or objects. I have seen some really amazing food and had some minor actually food consumption that were mind blowing or out of this world. Sweet would be easy to complete. Food, puppies and even babies or a bee collecting from a flower. A face in the crowd would be more challenging as I would try to find one that blends in but is not obvious. I hope your feeling better and you can continue with your photo challenge.

When I was in uni I actually used to make photos that you would consider “out of this world”. I remember once going to an abandoned chemical plant to take photos, and the day after, I made a photo shoot with my best friend and her boyfriend in the botanical garden. Then, with the help of photoshop, I’ve created a galactic battle scene between them, transposing them between the ruins of the abandoned building. It’s one of my most impressive works 🙂

You are very correct in the thought that anything can be out of this world. It depends on us and our thoughts, feelings, senses and so much more. To me a beautiful an out of this world picture would be an ocean/beach or sunset or a even a great back massage. Just ideas off the top of my head.

I love Albert Einstein and Howard Thurman quotes. They are so on point.
