Reflections: The Holy Longing…

Spread the love

“If each of us sweeps in front of our own steps, the whole world will be clean.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Reflections: The Holy Longing... Candela

Reflections: The Holy Longing… Candela

The Holy Longing by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Tell a wise person or else keep silent
for those who do not understand
will mock it right away.
I praise what is truly alive
what longs to be burned to death.

In the calm waters of the love nights
where you were begotten, where you have begotten
a strange feeling creeps over you
as you watch the silent candle burning.

Now you are no longer caught
in the obsession with darkness
and a desire for higher lovemaking
sweeps you upwards. Translated by Robert Bly and David Whyte

When barriers arise before you and it seems all is lost, take heart and remember the longing and a divine redemption. Walking through the fire to heal and grow again hurts but, only good can come of it. Those who bear false witness have spoken. They forget there is a higher power… A tree doesn’t stop growing because some throw garbage at it. It grows because others send love to it. It grows because it must.
Cont’d Below

“We must not hope to be mowers, And to gather the ripe gold ears, Unless we have first been sowers And water the furrows with tears. It is not just as we take it, This mystical world of ours, Life’s field will yield as we make it A harvest of thorns or of flowers.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Reflections: The Holy Longing... Goethe's Memorial

Reflections: The Holy Longing… Goethe’s Memorial

The Holy Longing by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Cont’d above
Distance does not make you falter,
now, arriving in magic, flying
and finally insane for the light
you are the butterfly, and you are gone.

And so long as you have not experienced
this: to die and so to grow
you are only a troubled guest
on the dark earth… Translated by Robert Bly and David Whyte

Those who choose to gloat should act with caution. They forget there is a higher power… A beautiful perennial knows about regeneration. It understands perfectly that … to die is to grow. It grows because it must.

Stay Inspired. Have a blessed day and thank you for stopping by!

      Hi Miriam,
I’m glad I was looking at old posts or I wouldn’t have found your comment. The Daily Post prompt was to write a post and drop/exclude a letter of the alphabet. The letter I excluded in this post is Q. Hope this helps. TY! 🙂

This is amazing! I really need inspiration. I find myself feeling lost or hopeless often the past year. My goals, hopes and dreams seem to be impossible, which leaves me feeling like I have a huge hole inside. These quotes give me something to think about.
