Super Bowl XLVI: Ten Tips For A Fun Night…

Super Bowl XLVI: Ten Tips To Make It A Fun Night... Enjoy it!

On Sunday, February 5th at around 6:30pm, the New York Giants will face off the New England Patriots at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, to decide the champions of Super Bowl XLVI (read roman numeral #46).  The NY Giants Eli Manning and Patriots Tom Brady will have another chance to show what makes them superstars in the football arena. According to the NFL gamecenter site, this will be the 5th Super Bowl for the NY Giants with a 3-1 win record and the 7th for the Patriots with a 3-3 win record. For the (legal) live stream on Sunday: Go here. To make this a fun event in your household, I’ll intersperse some tips in between valuable information on the sport.  Here we go:
♥ For starters, be clear about which team YOU are rooting for – Giants or Patriots; not the team your Bookie suggested.
♥ Invite only friends who support your team over for your game night; fans of a losing team are not fun.
♥ Hot Chicken wings, Nachos or Chilli? Who cares! Get tons of food; ideally stuff that can be washed down fast with a stiff drink.
♥ Send the kids off to the Grandparents for the weekend; Of course you planned ahead, right?

“Dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you’re willing to pay the price.” Vince Lombardi

Super Bowl XLVI: Ten Tips To Make It A Fun Night... Vince Lombardi Trophy

Pop Superstar MADONNA at Super Bowl XLVI, HALFTIME Show

For those unfamiliar with this all American sport, the National Football League (NFL) evolved from a modified game of Rugby that started in 1869 to our modern day American football. The sport is made up of highly paid players, a league with two conferences and a special game to crown a champion (see list of winning teams). The NFL season starts early September and ends early February culminating in the Super Bowl game; the top two teams that survived the playoffs compete for the Vince Lombardi trophy. The winner of the NFC (NY Giants) and the winner of the AFC (New England Patriots) play for the coveted Lombardi trophy. The players for the winning team also get the famous championship ring. More tips below. 😎
♥ Set ground rules; no swearing at mishaps from your own team; but feel free to cuss out the other side when they score a touch down. And dress rules: Only team jerseys and the usual paraphernalia are allowed. No distracting sexy lingerie.
♥ Agree to not make any snide or jealous remarks about Tom Brady‘s wife, Gisele Bundchen, if the Patriots do poorly or well. She’s not a player in the freakin’ game!
♥ Keep the noise level high; Yeah, get your vocal chords tired now. Get it off your chest because if your team loses, we want no blows exchanged.

“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi

Super Bowl XLVI: Ten Tips To Make It A Fun Night... New England Patriots Cheerleaders

In most parts of the world, the word football is another term for soccer. In the USA, the National Football League (NFL) oversees two conferences (National Football Conference & American Football Conference) for Professional football players who excel at playing in the most popular and highly viewed American sport. The competitive drama, pre/post game shows, crazy commercials, prognosticating talking heads analyzing strategies, plays, decisions, wall to wall TV coverage on multiple networks, gambling, fans, colorful uniforms and characters make it a favored pastime and regular Sunday/Monday fare for millions of Americans. Below are the Complete Stats and team leaders for Sunday’s game. More fun tips below… 😉
♥ Have a potty nearby; who needs a bathroom break when Pitbull, Madonna, MIA, Nicki Minaj, and a host of others will be entertaining you. Plus, you don’t want to miss those commercials.
♥ Put your bookie on hold until you are sure you want to bet against your own team… isn’t that illegal? Well, maybe unethical.
♥ For ladies who have no patience with Super Bowl, this is shopping night… with HIS card. WooHoo! Ahem, you don’t have to go there.
More Below. Complete Stats and team leaders for Sunday’s game. 😉
CONGRATULATIONS NY GIANTS! (21) GREAT GAME PATRIOTS! (17)  Ditto Eli Manning MVP!

“People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.”  Vince Lombardi

What I love about the game is the chess-like intelligence the players bring to the strategics of their game. Even with all the silliness and hoopla that occurs at this event, it is symbolic of what matters to everyone; Family, Community, Sports, the American Dream, and Celebrations. No matter how we choose to look at it,  NFL players continue to capture the American sports imagination and epitomize all things Americana; like Oreos, Apple Pie and well … Football.
What are your thoughts? Are you planning to watch the game? What are your views on fans and sports? Where else do you observe such fierce sports loyalty? Are you a fan of … anything? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: Sports is a great way to connect, communicate and build community; join the party.

😆 There we go with the “rooting” thing again! Makes me laugh every time I see it!

This is one sporting event I can let slide past in my part of the world. Sacrilege in your part of the world, I know!

Mind you, I do like the shopping idea……

    • 05/02/2012 1:18 am

It’s huge in these parts… what can I say? What is the “rooting” thing? I’m clueless on your point. As for the game, you either beat em or join em. It is FUN! 😉

      • 05/02/2012 3:13 am

Read my “B for Balls” article! You will understand the rooting!

      • 05/02/2012 3:18 am

        OK! I will go read it again… it’s been a while. 😉

Oh yes, Vince Lombardi was the best and he has lots of great quotes attributed to him. It made sense to stick with him for this post. TY for your feedback! 🙂

  3. 05/02/2012 7:06 am

To me both are great teams but I will go for New York Giants…as for the tips…all true and guarantees a fun night of excitement! Can I have grilled BBQ Though instead of the chips. A hearty meal for a power pack game. To super bowl! Have a great time my friend…

    • 05/02/2012 8:14 pm

Well, the Giants won! 🙂 And yes, eat what you may. Glad to hear from you! 🙂

  4. 05/02/2012 7:25 am

Hey nice blog! I will subscribe and keep myself updated! Enjoy the Super Bowl.

  5. 05/02/2012 8:11 am

We’ll watch the game, the commercials, and the half time show . . . while eating pizza, chips, dip . . . and chocolate. 😀

    • 05/02/2012 8:17 pm

Chocolate! Now that is a great addition to the Super Bowl list of snacks. 🙂

  6. 05/02/2012 8:26 am

I think you found your new calling Elizabeth. You can be a sportscaster/party planner. Too bad my team (49ers) didn’t make it in. Have fun! Miriam

    • 05/02/2012 8:18 pm

TY Miriam! Maybe next year for the 49ers. I like them especially back when Joe Montana played for the team. 🙂

  7. 05/02/2012 8:39 am

Since the 49ers lost to the Giants, I will definitely be sending my special winning vibes to the Patriots! At least we can just enjoy the commercials and not worry too much about who wins the game 🙂 GO PATRIOTS! WOOT WOOT!

    • 05/02/2012 8:20 pm

TY Angeline! Hope you enjoyed the commercials. Some were good and others pretty stupid. It was a fun night even as the Patriots lost. They both played hard and well. 😉

NY Giants all the way for me and they better win. Your tips made me laugh out loud. I have my potty and wings ready so I’m ready.
You have a future in sports humor! 🙂

TY and your team won! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the event. I did too. 🙂

  9. 05/02/2012 9:17 am

Rooting for the Giants, although I’m only watching for the commercials.

    • 05/02/2012 8:22 pm

TY! 🙂 Well you got both and it was a fun night even with the Madonna haters on Twitter! Ageism stinks!

check, check, check .. all but the barf bag..
will sit in the living room in mostly subdued state rooting for the Patriots in the heart of Giants country.. may actually pay attention to the commercials this year- purely for cultural commentary fodder mind you- hear there’s an 80’s retro theme going on there.. football is kinda feeling 80’s to me lately.. fleeting – lots of noise but not a lot of lasting value..

    • 05/02/2012 8:24 pm

TY for stopping by and I hope you, at least, got some culture out of the commercials. It was a great game no less. 🙂

  11. 05/02/2012 12:24 pm

Is Michael Jordon playing? That’s how much I know about sport

    • 05/02/2012 8:27 pm

😆 Em, no. Michael is a retired elite basketball player. He played for the Chicago Bulls… in your hometown. This is football dear. You are tongue-in-cheek kidding, right Rose? 🙂

  12. 05/02/2012 2:07 pm

    Great tips!!!

  13. 05/02/2012 2:43 pm

I usually don’t watch the superbowl unless a team I like is playing. This year I will watch the commercials and enjoy chicken wings.

  14. 05/02/2012 5:04 pm

To the winners, congrats! I can’t watch it.

    • 05/02/2012 8:32 pm

Yes, Congrats to both teams. Hope you have a restful evening Jackie. TY! 🙂

  15. 05/02/2012 6:45 pm

I don’t care one bit about football…or the Super Bowl, but I never want to pull the plug on the fun that others do have. I’m the odd person out, I think, or at least I am in my family. I have an iPad and I’ve been catching up on blogging and reading…and enjoying the enthusiasm of others. Oh yes, and eating from the snack table…I love to be around people having a good time! That’s my “good time.” Debra

    • 05/02/2012 8:34 pm

TY for stopping by to comment. You are not alone as there are many who don’t watch the game, and I jokingly suggested you shop. 😉 Hope the snacks were tasty. The game was great. 🙂

  16. 05/02/2012 8:54 pm

Well, now that I arrived AFTER the game is over, Yay for the winner! I learned way too much about football today Liz . . . brain overload but in a good way. Lots of laughs here with your comment on Tom Brady’s wife:
“She’s not a player in the freakin’ game!” Oh, my! 🙂
So, if a shopping mall was closer to my house, I would have gone during the game. End of story. See ya! and thanks for the Super Bowl hospitality!

  17. 05/02/2012 9:56 pm

Great tips, Elizabeth. Wish I were a fan. I’m partial to cricket and soccer — guess I put up a wall where (American and Canadian) football’s concerned. I’m glad the Giants won, though. I can just imagine the atmosphere in NYC now. I’d have loved to have been there to see the ticker tape parade.

I didn’t tune in to the half-time show either though I did see some of the ads. I like the ads. The agencies seem to unleash all their creativity in them. Love the CR-V one with Matthew Broderick and the Budweiser one with the Clydesdale horse.

The best part of the SB, to me, is the bet the mayors (or governors) make.

Here’s what a NY family will get from the Post now that the Giants have won —
    — Four tickets on JetBlue
    — A two-night stay at the Ritz Carlton
    — Dinner for four at Legal Seafoods Harborside
    — Dinner for four at the Top of the Hub restaurant
    — Four tickets to a performance at the Citi Performing Arts Center
    — Four box seats at a Bruins or Celtics game at the TD Garden
    — A behind-the-scenes-tour of the newly expanded Isabella Stewart Gardner museum
    — A Duck Tour ride
    — A VIP tour of the personal diaries of John Adams, which inspired the HBO series, at the Boston Public Library
    — A VIP tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain
    — A photo with Menino

Fun facts to read about the NFL, because I know basically nothing about that game. Mainly because this sport is not at all popular in Sweden, instead soccer and hockey are our two big sports. So thank you for sharing! 🙂

  19. 06/02/2012 5:42 am

Hi, Elizabeth! I’m just going to skim this one, because all I watched was about 30 seconds of Madonna and boys, but I’m loving the lack of traffic this morning! Have a great week! 😀

  20. 06/02/2012 10:25 am

I totally enjoyed the game and LOVED Madonna! I’m not a huge fan but I thought it was the best half time show I’ve ever seen.
Hope this is the end of the Brady/Belachick years!

Well, first of all, my Mississippi homeboy won AGAIN! Yay! Our church here holds a SuperBowl family night every year in our fellowship hall. Everyone brings yummy fingerfoods to go with the minister’s homemade deer chili and some decadent deserts, with lots of softdrinks, punches, coffee, teas, etc. The kids play in the gym, play board games, play on some providedlaptop computers, read, etc. Everybody has a slam bang up good time razzing each other over their favorite players and favored teams. This is one of our best family life events of the year at our First United Methodist Church.

  22. 06/02/2012 4:02 pm

Since my Eagles got off to a slow start, I rooted for the Giants. They played a fantastic game!!
