“We are asleep. Our life is a dream. But we wake up, sometimes, just enough to know that we are dreaming.” Ludwig Wittgenstein

DreamScapes: Eyes Wide Open or Not... a lighthouse beckoning
Do you have recurring dreams? What are they about? The world of dreams can be a fascinating place to visit and linger; especially if what you meet there fulfills all the desires you have in your awake state… Of course, if, like Ludwig, you believe the material world is a dream, then the dream world is real and there are no confusions of location and outcomes. But for the rest of us, dreaming is a state that occurs when we close our eyes and drift off. In that state, a lot happens including; dream lucidity, nightmares, astral visits, prophesy, problem solving, and more. I have had my share of these types of dreams but the question above is about recurring dreams.
For years, I had two recurring dreams; one was about being on a boat headed to a lighthouse with flashing lights. It sent such strong signals that I could feel the warmth radiating from the light and, as I drew nearer, the light would get stronger and then my eyes would pop open. The other dream was of me watching myself drive down a familiar road that was hilly. As I drove down, I would see the light turn green and then quickly turn red as I reached the bottom of the hill. These dreams baffled me for years and after considering many interpretations, I agreed that a lucid dream resolution, being aware of a dream while you’re in it and following through on a plan, would help. Do you recall resolving a recurring dream? Do share.
“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.” Calvin & Hobbes

DreamScapes: Eyes Wide Open or Not... lucid or not
Have you ever had a lucid dream? Would you want one? Yes, I did try lucid dreaming to resolve the doggedness of those two recurring dreams. I don’t recall if an expert or a book I read suggested I try it, but I remember going to sleep on separate nights intent on solving them. I wrote the dreams in a bedside journal and mentally presented my plan before falling asleep. With the lighthouse, I found myself arriving there and gingerly climbing off the boat, I followed a long flight of stairs to the top of the lighthouse. Once up there, I met a stranger and we chatted for a while about all sorts of things. At the end, we embraced and feeling fulfilled, I woke up.
The hilly drive was a bit different because I remember the emotions tied to it were anxious ones. As I lucidly drove down that hill, the light changed and I stopped and waited as another driver pulled out from an intersecting street and headed off. I took a deep breath and released the event into the universe. Interestingly enough, years later when I moved to the USA, got married and moved to the suburbs, I found that hilly road… Yep, now that was interesting. Have you had that happen in your dreams?
