Inspiration: A Taste For Balance…

“Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birds’ wings.” ― Rumi

Flavor: (1)Distinctive taste; savor
(2) A distinctive yet intangible quality felt to be characteristic of a given thing: “What matters in literature . . . is surely the idiosyncratic, the individual, the flavor or color of a particular human suffering” (Harold Bloom) FreeDictionary.com

If I haven’t checked in with you, it’s not because I don’t love you, I’m working on creating a balanced schedule that honors what we do; staying connected and in communication. In a dynamic blogging environment with lots of exciting, creatives to visit and chat with, time is a factor. The flavor of this blog at this time is to create balance with reflection. If, to answer Michelle’s prompt, I had full access to my Akashic records, the book of my life, I would be wise to seek balance in reading my ordained chart; for the outcome of our destiny (kismet) often rests with us and our attitude. Once we accept our role, then we can sit and savor it… Balance

“You see, we cannot draw lines and compartments and refuse to budge beyond them. Sometimes you have to use your failures as stepping-stones to success. You have to maintain a fine balance between hope and despair.’ He paused, considering what he had just said. ‘Yes’, he repeated. ‘In the end, it’s all a question of balance.” Rohinton Mistry, A Fine Balance

Even in the midst of happiness and doing all the things we love, there is pleasure and there is pain. We pick our pathway and march on knowing that if we stay grounded; joyfully grounded, the journey will yield many wonderful experiences. To be happy where we are is to be content with both our good and bad choices. To be happy with who we are is to embrace our gifts and gaffes. Both darkness and light are present in all of us… and it is the balance we seek between both worlds that keeps us inspired and motivated. How would we know happiness if we’ve never known its flip side? Happy people get sad, they just don’t stay there… Balance. More Below!

Musings: Creating Balance In Life…

“The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise man.” Euripides

Musings: Creating Balance In Life...

Lately, I’ve been thinking of ways to balance and/or integrate the demands on my life and time. Most of us start out with good intentions to accomplish our goals and then life happens. So what do we do? Something, I presume, we’ve all learned from experience is that when we create a realistic schedule for ourselves, we are less inclined to feel rushed or stressed than when we just take on projects and let events happen to us. Sure, creating a work/life balance remains a constant concern for most people. However, before we create a plan to make our lives less hectic and more balanced, it is imperative that we ask ourselves three fundamental questions: Intention – What do I want to accomplish with my life now? Purpose – Why does it matter? and Plan – What must I do to achieve my plan?

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” Thomas Merton

✿♡✿Intention
Sometimes, we look at other people and their lifestyles, and wish we could have same. But the reality is that our lives are different, and each individual is here or called for different goals. If we stop to think back to our childhood days and the things that gave us much joy or, at least, some joy, we can act with intention as we map out a plan that is both realistic and beneficial to our lives. We must look at our current circumstances and ask ourselves the question: What do I want to accomplish with my life now?

Another important thing to consider once we ask the question is how we use our time; to take a look at our personal clock. When are we most alert? Are you a morning person or a nocturnal soul? When do you do your best work and can you create a schedule that fits your personal inner clock? Is this feasible in your work environment? How can you find ways to maximize your effectiveness during your alert time? All of these questions demand that we spend some time observing and evaluating what we do at certain times and when we are at our most productive.

“For me, it’s important to be in balance. To not let fear get in the way of things, to not worry so much about protecting yourself all the time.”  John Frusciante

✿♡✿Purpose
There is something to be said for the European midday nap-time because it gives everyone a chance to regroup and refresh the mind. When we make time to rest and regroup, we are able to look at our day and separate the important things from the minutiae. We get to ask again – Why does this event/project/assignment matter? Meditation; both seated and walking forms can give us another way to refresh our minds during the day. Prayer is another way we calm our mind and refocus our intentions. Exercise helps rejuvenate our bodies and our spirits and is recommended too. More Below. ;-)

Inspiration: Seeking Balance…

“Evermore in the world is this marvelous balance of beauty and disgust, magnificence and ratsRalph Waldo Emerson

Inspiration: Seeking Balance... Pause and enjoy the peacock's dance...

We have 174 days to 2012 and I can feel the exhaustion slowly creeping up… Dressed like a magnificent bird, it beckons me to step inside the sparkling chamber of sleep and rest. Everything can wait it says, nobody is indispensable it assures me… Tarry, tarry, tarry a while. I nod. I smile. I understand. So, why did I just shove that magnificent, brightly plumed bird to the side? Why is it so hard to find balance? Within each of us is a switch that we constantly flick on and off as we struggle with desires, dreams, goals, expectations, delusions and more.

We want our best self to rule the roost yet we sabotage ourselves by overreaching, by allowing disgust and fear to rule, by flaming out. We allow ourselves to be burnt to smithereens by unresolved fears; alternating fears of success with failure. Mirroring the sacred and good work we do is the profane critic’s voice… “not good enough, do more. not good enough, say more.” Until we shut that rat up and embrace the magnificence of simple things; by pausing, smelling scented Jasmin petals, perhaps resting under the Jacaranda tree, we will lose balance… struggle, gain only snatches of joy… Where is your balance?
