DECEMBER WISHES:  As we celebrate all that this month/season has to offer us, it would be wise to pause and reflect on the ending year, the many events that occurred, and our wishes for the coming year. December is a special time for so many and yet, it is also a time of great pain, suffering, and loneliness for others. This is a great time to reach out to others either directly or by Volunteering through the many organizations out there in the world. We can do it online or in person, the choice is ours. Volunteer or support organizations that do. If we can take a message to heart from this post, it would be to remember to be compassionate with others and with ourselves. Compassion opens the door to our hearts and prompts us to remember to be charitable and kind. Compassion reminds us to be gentle with ourselves and less critical of others. So, take a moment to read the list of events below, and see if any of them speaks to your heart. Reach out, find some time to pick a cause that resonates with your own beliefs, and give someone a helping hand this holiday season. Happy Holidays!

Motivation Mondays: DECEMBER WISHES

DECEMBER WISHES: Over the 10+ years I’ve been blogging, I have accumulated a treasure trove of posts on so many topics dear to my heart. For this December post, I decided to revisit each year of my blogging journey and share some of those December topics with you. I didn’t share every single post from the many December topics I’ve covered but, I hope the carefully curated selections here will pique your interest and get you thinking more about what December means to you. I love that Christmas and Hanukkah coincide in December and that many kids, like mine, with parents of dual faith, can enjoy celebrations of both faiths. My kids enjoy the lighting of the menorah and Christmas tree, the gelt and holiday presents they receive from both and the solicitous attention of family near and far during this season…
My letter to Santa is a yearly staple and I share it unapologetically because it speaks to so many thoughts and wishes we all hold dear. Plus, as Coolidge aptly says in the quote above, Christmas is a state of mind and we might as well develop the real spirit of the season. Enjoy it.

A Letter To Santa
Dearest Santa,
Thank you for the blessings you showered on us this year. Thank you for the new friends and fresh opportunities. We are all grateful… My wish for the coming year is more goodwill, grace, and abundance in the world, and less misery, meanness, and scarcity!
Please don’t mix these two up like you did last year! 🙂
With love & gratitude to all,
xoxo

DECEMBER WISHES: Yes, December is a bewitching month and it arrives and flies by so quickly that it can take a big memory jug to remember all the things we love and cherish about it. I love it because both my Mom and younger brother have December birthdays and birthdays are very special in my book. They remind us to celebrate the gift of life and be grateful for all the good around us. So, Happy December Birthday to my beloved younger brother,  to my beloved late Mom, and to all the December babies and celebrants out there!

On another note, I love poetry because it has always been a big part of my life. I wrote my own little poems from as early as I can remember during my childhood. Most of my poems were ghastly, a few treasures came through but, the process has always fascinated me. I continue to explore haiku and other forms of poetry in my leisure time and I have shared some, over the years, on this blog. Do you have a hidden creative side that you don’t share? Make an effort to share more in the coming year and let go of the need for perfection… the process is worth the effort. Press on and come back for more.

A Year of Nature Poems By Joseph Coelho
“December is a bewitching month.
The grey of cold teases
to explode into something worthwhile,
into a dream of cold,
a starlight shower you can taste,
a cold that does not chill.

I’ve lost my memory
of my first snow–
did I gasp at a field of white?
Or scream at the freeze
until my cheeks reddened?

The crunch underfoot is satisfying
and the thrill of virgin snow
near leaves.”

Motivation Mondays: DECEMBER WISHES

Motivation Mondays: DECEMBER WISHES

DECEMBER WISHES: One thing I know for sure is that times flies by and waits for no one. Whether we like it or not, the clock of life and the days of our lives tick-tock by. We can spend our lives bemoaning all the things we wish we coulda, shoulda done, or we can get on with living it by being present to what calls our attention in the here and now. It is easy to forget that as we daydream about future events or plans we would love to accomplish. Start with being present and add some joy to someone else’s life. My Pastor recently spoke about three important elements we need, inorder to have success in all areas of our personal and spiritual lives: we need Passion, Commitment, and Grace. Think about it … the self-made man/woman is an illusion. We need the help and support of others to reach our goals and that is where grace is imperative.

Holidays by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The holiest of all holidays are those
Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;–
The happy days unclouded to their close;
The sudden joys that out of darkness start
As flames from ashes; swift desires that dart
Like swallows singing down each wind that blows!
White as the gleam of a receding sail,
White as a cloud that floats and fades in air,
White as the whitest lily on a stream,
These tender memories are;–a fairy tale
Of some enchanted land, we know not where,
But lovely as a landscape in a dream.

Every December, I host a tree-trimming party. I serve chili with cornbread and lots of good wine. It’s a wonderful party, and it shows how much adults like to play. Maya Angelou

There’s something super special about December. Charmaine J. Forde

DECEMBER WISHES: Recently, as some of you might know, I went to Nigeria for my Mother’s funeral. On my return, I shared some of my insights and experience with the admins/mods in the social media groups I manage. My wish for EVERYONE  this holiday season is that you make time to spend with your loved ones; that you remember to be compassionate with yourself and with others; that you give back to those in need; and that you take the sage advice of Oren Arnold’s holiday gift suggestions: “To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.”

I will share the same insights about my trip here: I am completely emotionally, mentally, and physically wiped out from my trip home for my mom’s funeral. It was great to spend quality time with my immediate family, to reconnect with extended family, long-time friends and all the thousands of well-wishers who showed up for the services and funeral. It was great to reconnect with my youngest brother (from another mom) whom I hadn’t seen for so many years, to visit my ancestral home, and to touch my dad’s gravestone again and walk around his mausoleum.
I had a magical, protected, and beautiful time with my family back home; it was 12 days of nonstop events and activities related to the funeral. We gave tributes, readings, had meetings, dealt with some behind the scene drama, had the highest level security and shared some sad moments with close friends and others in between the grace and blessings.
For the first time in my life, I got on the plane back to NY, strapped myself into my seatbelt, and passed out from exhaustion. I was out cold when the plane took off… I woke up when the flight attendants were serving dinner. I’ve traveled a lot in my lifetime and I have NEVER fallen asleep before takeoff but I did this time. Again, I was mentally, emotionally and physically drained.
I am still digesting my experience and I am grateful that after 34 years of surviving a stroke and the challenges that came with it, my determined and God-fearing mother was given a beautiful and loving homegoing. That said, I am still exhausted and slowly getting back on track. I went straight back to work when I returned. Getting back on the grind in NY is not always fun but, it is my reality for now. I will be up and running again soon (literally, and more on that announcement in the New Year), and I wish all you a fantastic holiday season. May you all be abundantly blessed. I remain grateful. To God, I give the glory.

WISHING YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES A HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON AND A FANTASTIC NEW YEAR!

I am so sorry to read about your mom, but as you said, it’s so important to remember to take time to enjoy those around you. That trip could not have been an easy one, but at least you were able to see family and spend time with them. Making those memories is so important. We spent time with my family for Thanksgiving this year and will be with my husband’s family for Christmas. I try my best to make sure my kids get ample time with both sides of the family.

I find december is the best moment for re-connecting with the self and wait for the light of the year to come back again; it’s a month when I like going slow, respecting my need to stay home and thinking about the next projects but without the typical stress of planning. It’s the right time to dream more than to plan

I love the visual and the sensations that the poem brought forth in me – memories from childhood snow piles, and that delicious crunch of freshly fallen virgin snow – delightful! Thanks for taking me back. Now that we are living in Las Vegas, there is not much snow, if any around – at least not in the City. However, while driving I can see the snow-caps on the mountains that we are surrounded by, and it always makes me smile

That letter is so cute. When December rolls around I find myself reflecting a lot of the past year. It is a time I re-evaluate what I did and what I can do differently. With each passing year I find myself growing into a better place within myself.

Your posts are always a great resource for me when planning get-togethers with family and friends. I usually read aloud some of the beautiful poetry and quotes you list for inspiration, or incorporate them in a holiday card. I loved Holidays by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow especially, since it celebrates the magic of the day to day and finding the extrodinary around you all the time. And thats a truth we all need to carry in our hearts to feel continuously happy.
