Motivation Mondays: DECISIONS

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” Stephen Covey

Motivation Mondays: DECISIONS

Motivation Mondays: DECISIONS

We are not living in a world where all roads are radii of a circle and where all, if followed long enough, will therefore draw gradually nearer and finally meet at the centre: rather in a world where every road, after a few miles, forks into two, and each of those into two again, and at each fork, you must make a decision. C. S. Lewis
Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen. Ralph Waldo Emerson

What kind of Decisions did you make today? Every day, we make decisions, large and small, that have an impact on our lives in some way.  Today, I spent 4 hours at my local DMV trying to renew my drivers license to the new upgraded version that, if we plan to travel, will affect us all by 2020. Yes, I could have taken the suggested August 2nd appointment when I tried to schedule one online but, I was impatient to be done with the process. My decision cost me 4 extra hours that could have been spent elsewhere. Each decision we make will leave a wake … a reverberation that impacts other areas of our lives.  As I sat there fuming, waiting for my turn, it got me thinking about how we make decisions/choices to do A or B and how that unfolds into other circumstances in our lives. One thing is clear, regardless of what we choose to do in a situation, our attitude can make a difference. We might not have a choice in the outcome of the road taken but, we have a choice on how we respond to those outcomes. We can moan and groan or chin up and move on.

Why did I write today’s post? An important point on this subject was my decision to go ahead and write this post, even though my day was shot. Plus, I had other pressing engagements to handle. I wrote it because I’d made a commitment to myself and my readers to make Monday an inspired day; plus I was not going to let us down, Normally,  I  prefer to have my blog posts up before midnight east coast time, however, this blog is set at west coast (pacific) time. Why?  If you’ve followed this blog from its inception, you’d know that I started it, in California, as a motivational support newsletter for my agents. As training manager, I wanted to give them inspirational support, as well as practical, industry related information. When the market crashed, in 2008, and things fell apart, I turned the newsletter into the blog you are reading today. I took the unfortunate outcome of one situation and made a decision to turn it into another positive endeavor. It is in staying flexible and choosing meaningful alternatives that we see a pathway open. In life, it is imperative that we choose a road and take it. Damn the consequences or stay prayerful that it all pans out.

DECISIONS: A MORAL DILEMMA
You have witnessed a man rob a bank, but then, he did something completely unusual and unexpected with the money. He donated it to an orphanage that was poor, run-down and lacking in proper food, care, water and amenities. The sum of money would be a great benefit to the orphanage, and the children’s lives would turn from poor to prosperous. Would you:
a: Call the police and report the robber, even though they would likely take the money away from the orphanage, or
b: Do nothing and leave the robber and the orphans alone? VIA LISTVERSE

Motivation Mondays: DECISIONS

Motivation Mondays: DECISIONS

The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward. Amelia Earhart
You write your life story by the choices you make. You never know if they have been a mistake. Those moments of decision are so difficult. Helen Mirren

Do you fear making decisions in hard times? The storms in our lives help us learn about our own strengths in decision-making. Whether we like it or not, sometimes, we have to make tough decisions to help move a situation or resolve a quandary in our path. While some decisions are clear cut and pretty easy to make, others are complex, unclear and offer little clarity but, we must still choose what to do. Our fear of choosing might make us stall until pushed by other forces to act. The two moral dilemma stories I shared in this post, and Robert Frost’s famous poem The Road Not Taken, are reminders of how challenging decision-making can be. It is fraught with complications that can create new problems and decisions to make.  But act, we must!

DECISIONS: A MORAL DILEMMA
Your best friend is about to get married. The ceremony will be performed in one hour, but you have seen, just before coming to the wedding, that your friend’s fiancee has been having an affair. If your friend marries this woman, she is unlikely to be faithful, but on the other hand, if you tell your friend about the affair, you will ruin his wedding. Would you, or would you not, tell your friend of the affair?VIA LISTVERSE

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. via poetryfoundation.org

We made decision everyday and some are important and some aren’t. No matter what decision we made, we should not get regreted and cry over it when the decision turn out to be no good or failure. Instead we should use it as a lesson to learn so we could made a better decision in the future.

Oh my those dilemmas really got me thinking. Such difficult decisions to make, but the life changing one usually are. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learnt to trust my gut and make a call, and deal with the consequences afterwards. Fortunately most of the times it’s worked out right

I love Steven Covey. I believe we are a product of our decisions. Whether or not we make a good or bad decision, we always have a choice. I will always side on the side of right so if I know my friend is about to make the worst decision of his life and marry a cheater, I have to tell him and risk losing the friendship. In the robbing situation, I probably would call the police. In this day and age, there are so many ways to raise money for people who have needs. There’s no excuse to rob a bank. All you need to do is start a Kickstarter program. If I was a charity, I wouldn’t want dirty money.

Making decisions is an interesting topic. I feel before something has come to pass, I typically weight the good vs. the bad of the decision. However, if I’m caught up in the moment of a decision, and it has to be made right now, I’m very decisive and don’t have a second thought about it.

It can be easy to try and play the blame game when it comes to disappointment faced in one’s life, when we step aside and take an objective approach we will realize that all we need to do is change our perception, believe in ourselves, plan, and then take action accordingly.

This is a thought provoking post , the story of the person stealing and then donating to an orphanage sounds like a kind gesture but it’s not his own money to give. I think it is still wrong to steal. Somebody might have scrimped and saved and put money in bank who also needed that money and trusted the bank to keep it safe.

This post is thought provoking and very interesting. The story of the guy who stole and donated to an orphanage is a kind gesture but it’s still stealing .It was not his money or choice to give it away , the money is in safe keeping in the bank and belongs to people who them selves may have struggled to save it.Stealing is wrong no mater what reason it’s done for. Some people may dissaggree but that is my thoughts on it.

There is so much truth in that C.S. Lewis quote. It seems like no matter what decision you make there’s always another decision after that, and another after that, and so-on and so-on. However, it never seems to fail that you want to hesitate before making a decision because what if it’s the wrong decision. I’m so feeling this today especially. That you for this post!

I usually sleep on a decision before I decide. It’s really important for me to have a clear mind and it’s also more important to decide with a positive heart. I think it’s good to turn things around with the decisions that we make.

That scenario about the moral dilemma. It made me think what would be the right thing to do. There are so many conflicting thoughts, like “the end does not justify the means,” “done something wrong to make others’ lives better.” However, if I were in that situation, I would rather not report it. The man wanted to give the children a more comfortable living condition, and that maybe his action was brought about by desperation. It was a decision he made even if he may have prior knowledge of the consequences that may arise.

I like that poem by Robert Frost. I have been trying to remember the author of the poem and here you come with the reminder. I have indeed been going through some hard times and ofcourse some hard choices. I have been hoping that time would just present me with a solution but it doesn’t . I should just decide and be at peace with my decision.

We need to make decisions every single day. Sometimes we have to really think about them especially if there are potential consequences.

Decisions can be fatal. After a bad illness (infection led to sepsis, 2 months in hospital on my back, and the need to learn to lift my arms, walk, etc., all over again), I decided to go to the physical therapy center over 3 hours from home because it could’ve taken weeks to find another place. Bad decision! It was not a good care center. I wound up hospitalized again, with UTI and very low potassium. 3 months wasted. But I decided to find a new place, close to home, and start over. I did that 2 weeks ago and it’s great. Physical therapy is going well & I know I will walk out of here.

I tend to think about all the other options I had for my decision making, if a choice I made seems to go awry. That’s when I momentarily dwell in the should of, could of, would of’s, but have to remind myself that I made the choice and must deal with the impact/outcome.
