There is nothing permanent except change. Heraclitus
The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward. Amelia Earhart

Today, the Weekly Photo Challenge calls for our All-Time Favorites and there is a bittersweet reason for it. The Daily Post staff who have managed the Photo Challenges are wishing us a fond farewell. In the 6+ years I’ve participated in the WP Photo Challenge, I’ve learned a lot about the depth and breadth of creative photography. It’s been a fantastic ride and, like all rides, they eventually come to a stop. In this case, we were informed that this would be the last assignment in the series. I am saddened but, I feel galvanized to continue creating my own Photo Challenges so I don’t become lazy. I thank the WP DP staffers for guiding us all these years, and I hope they will offer periodic photo challenges to keep us on our toes. That said, I believe that Farewells are never endings… they are the beginning of something new.

When I read the accompanying message today: Welcome to the final installment of the Weekly Photo Challenge. In wishing you a fond farewell, we wanted to share our all-time favorite photos with you. We welcome you to share your favorites with us. Happy photographic trails!, it left me feeling wistful about the many years we stepped up to engage in the photo challenges and how much I enjoyed the creativity it inspired in all of us. Please stop by the Photo Challenge page and join me in saying a huge THANK YOU! to:

They have all been terrific guides and I am grateful for their dedication over the last 6+ years. I do hope to continue in some form and fashion so, join in and lets keep this going. Photography is not just a form of creative expression, it is a repository of memories and personal history. I can look back at my photos and remember when…

Are you a photography buff? How do you stay connected to your craft? I make it a point of duty to take photos every day. I take a lot of them with my smartphone but, occasionally, I pick up my DSLR and take a lot more. Even though the final installment called for our all time favorites, I decided to go back to my first photography love… nature and flowers. Most of the shots are from the Orchid Exhibition I attended last month at the NY Botanical Garden. I chose to feature them because I used my DSLR and loved the many beautiful orchids I photographed. I threw in a few flowers from gardens in my neighborhood and will upload a few more from my other favorite photography spots: the Croton Aqueduct and the Hudson River. Stay tuned!

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post:  –  All Time Favorites  –  In the final edition of the Weekly Photo Challenge, Daily Post staff contributors share their favorite photos and invite you to do the same. When I suggested starting the Weekly Photo Challenge in 2011 (most of the early prompt topics came from me and then I started publishing them directly later that year) I never thought we’d still be doing it each week, more than seven years later! Photography and words are a wonderful way to express ourselves and while we respond to the writing, our eyes crave something visual, too. I hope you continue to express yourselves and reveal the “Layers” you have within. — Sara

Great shots, love the color and depth of field. Sometimes it is nice to get out and shoot non-work related stuff for me as a photographer.

In college I was a literary major and John Keats was one of my favorite poets. These words sing to me. “I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.” -John Keats All of the flowers shown are really beautiful.

I love this quote “I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.” by John Keats. I was really enjoying these photo challenges. I am sorry that it has come to an end 🙁

Yes… I chose it for the sentiment. The photography community felt that way to me… acceptance of all regardless of skill level.

It’s a shame when things that we got used to have to end, especially after so many years. I think the photo challenge was a great idea and made people get out of their houses and enjoy nature, whilst doing something motivational: taking photos.
