If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share. W. Clement Stone
Pride slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves. Henry Ward Beecher
Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you’ll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you’ll find that you have more of it. Ralph Marston

What are you Thankful for this season? Every Thanksgiving season we pause to look back on the year and express Thanks for so many things that came into our lives; the good, the bad and the mundane. Each event opened us to our strengths, weaknesses and our blessings. We can start with the list below and come back soon for more on this post!

The gift of love

The gift of time and memories ~
The gift of family, friends and people we meet ~

I have a lot to be thankful for. I am healthy, happy and I am loved. Reba McEntire
I am even thankful for the negative things that have made me a stronger and better person. Joanna Krupa
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself. Tecumseh
Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts. Henri Frederic Amiel

I love that list below because it is simple and to the point. See the great good in small things and then the grace of larger things to be thankful for will meet us at our door step.

I Am Thankful by Anon (via inspirational short stories.com)
I am thankful for the wife who says it’s hot dogs tonight because she is home with me and not with someone else.
For the husband who is on the sofa who is being a couch potato because he is home with me and not out at the bars.
For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because he or she is at home, not on the streets.
For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed.
For the mess to clean-up after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am in the sunshine.
For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.
For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech.
For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am able to walk and that I have been blessed with transportation.
For my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.
For the lady behind me in church that sings off key, because it means that I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.
For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard.
For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.
Finally, for too much email, because it means I have friends who are thinking of me.

Thankful is an over used word in my opinion. To be truly thankful one must realize why they are thankful and truly appreciate what it is they are thankful for. I have been taking time to actually understand what it is that I am thankful for and why. Also to what other areas of life does this person, product, thing, pet, energy touch in my life making more that I am thankful for. Sorry if this does not make sense.

    • 24/11/2017 10:00 am

Thankfulness is purposeful so to be thankful is a deliberate act and can’t ever be overused. I suspect you expressed that perhaps you have overused the word in the past and are now being purposeful… <3

When it comes to Thanksgiving people think about what they are thankful, usually it for what they have in their own lives versus what other don’t have, food, friends family. I think I most thankful for the unity it bring during the season. Food banks receive the most food during this time, same as clothing banks and shelters are filled with donations as well. Thanksgiving is the start of a season in which everyone seems to be the most giving, hen they truly realize just how much more they have than other.

That inspirational short story says it all. What a wonderful way to see the world and realize just how much there is to be thankful for each and every day. Sometimes we’re so busy lamenting the big things in life that we don’t have that we completely forget to see all the little things that we do have.

There is much to be thankful for this year, and every day of our lives, as we are aware of our blessings, we can go forth and open our hearts to share our gratitude <3 Happy Thanksgiving!!

Exactly and being thankful and grateful from our heart is NOT the same as that lousy throwaway phrase some bloggers use … “thanks for sharing!” Thankfulness is purposeful in ways that sometimes our words can’t adequately express. 🙂

What a great article, motivation of the day to be thankful for everything! My way of thanking my creator is through lighthing a candle at home or at the church and pray. I love this time of the year because it makes me want to look back at what happened over the year and think about all the things I am thankful for. My biggest one being that I was able to be at my nephew’s first birthday in France since I live on the other side of the Atlantic 🙂

Thankful is what we should be everyday. There is so much misery in the world, who are we to complain when we are far more blessed than others! I think thankfulness should not be limited to celebrating it once a year. It should be everyday we are alive. May you have a blessed day, Elizabeth.
