I don’t make resolutions, because resolutions seem so ephemeral and transient to go away. Ian K. Smith
To the artist is sometimes granted a sudden, transient insight which serves in this matter for experience. A flash, and where previously the brain held a dead fact, the soul grasps a living truth! At moments we are all artists. Arnold Bennett
Every time I walk the path to the Hudson River, I am drawn in by the sunlight shimmering over the water, the ducks swimming along with the currents, and the undulating terrain beckoning form the distant mountains. The more I see it, the more it changes in the most subtle ways. Sure, the river is there, steady and full. The location seems the same but, something about the landscape shifts at each visit… like a transitory song that arrives in our dreams, disappearing as dawn sets in.
Today, we celebrate the Summer Solstice and International Day of Yoga. Both offer us some comfort and a chance to refresh ourselves as we give thanks to Mother Earth for her magnificence. I am grateful for the present moment and I hope you are too. As the day comes to a quiet, meditative end, a thought settles in the center of my heart: Most things have a transitory nature … and, each day, we are reminded to make the best of each moment.

I think character is permanent, and issues are transient. James Stockdale
Wealth, beauty, and fame are transient. When those are gone, little is left except the need to be useful. Gene Tierney
Photographers usually want to photograph facts and things. But I’m interested in the nature of the thing itself … My work is about my life as an event, and I find myself to be very temporal, transient. Duane Michals
I love Sunsets and Sunrises but, the more I think about it, I realize that Sunset captures my attention more. Why? Because it lingers briefly, shining brightly in gorgeous shades of red, purple, gold, yellow and/or burnt orange with a splash of blue haze tossed in for good measure. Then, suddenly, it disappears. Sunrise, other other hand, glides smoothly from the early morning foggy sun into a full and robust daylight. The sun’s golden rays blend into the morning and life begins … we notice one more vividly than the other.
This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: TRANSIENT – For this week’s challenge, show us your perception of transient. Maybe it’s a leather-skinned motorcyclist riding across South America. Maybe it’s a seed carried on a bird’s wing. Maybe your photo is not of a person or an object but depicts the state of impermanence. Whatever interpretation of transient you share, I look forward to imagining the stories!
Positive Motivation Tip: We can’t capture the setting sun in our hands but we can cherish the memory

Wow! Love these!!
when it comes to transient… the first thing that comes up to my mind are the falling leaves. maybe because there are few of them where I live, mostly evergreen plants area, but they really make me feel the time passing by and re-creating life.
I love love love these photos of the sunset. Poignant, stunning – makes me want to write a poem about it! 🙂
I just can’t help but love this line: “Most things have a transitory nature … and, each day, we are reminded to make the best of each moment.” It’s so beautiful and true to the core. We should savor each moment because not one will ever be the same.
Those are really beautiful pictures! I love taking pictures of Sunsets and oceans. Very calming.
These are beautiful pictures! I love taking pictures of sunsets and oceans. Very calming.
For me, everything is transient. Which is exactly the reason why I treasure every minute I have with my family. Why should I be bothered by negative things when I know in time, it will go away too. Thanks for another inspiring post.
You always post such great photos. My favorite is the one of the tree covered in ice.
I see these types of views all the time driving to the lake in the summer. Speaking of summer, it’s so short in Michigan. I’m praying we could move to a warmer State when the children are older.
I don’t know whats better, a sunrise or a sunset, both are equally beautiful. The photos are amazing.
Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but so many things in life feel transient lately. Especially after our dog passed in April. It was a reminder to really savor the moment, because it can all be gone in the blink of an eye
These pictures are absolutely stunning. The way you captured your environment and the moment. Gorgeous! xx corinne
This life here on earth itself is transient! I think it’s great to live with eternity in mind.
The photos look beautiful hope you had a wonderful summer solace and international day of yoga. I kind of forgot it was summer since I live in Sevilla and it’s hitting 40C here daily already.
Your pictures are beautiful! I love taking photographs of the sunset and sunrise, especially in winter. It always looks so exotic!
These are very nice pictures but I also enjoyed your reflections on them. You have beautifully written about the differences between the sunrise and sunset and I myself also seem to like sunsets better. Nice post, keep it up!
Thank you for your feedback… Join the challenge!
What a gorgeous walk it must be along the Hudson River. I love your photographs, especially the one of the clouds
I love sunsets way more than sunrises. The colors of sunsets are stunning. The beauty of them are comforting in a way.
Actually I feel the same way with you about sunsets and I much prefer them from sunrises.
Beautiful photos! I love doing photo challenges for my own personal growth.
How beautiful are those pictures, they make me just want to take off into the world and explore the beauty around.
Wow. These pictures are beautiful. You really captured some great moment. I love sunsets.
Absolutely beautiful photographs. So peaceful. Wish we had such scenery here.
That word Elizabeth……. you captured it perfectly in your photos. Everything comes and goes, but memories of a beautiful sunset, a kind word or a shy smile live on forever.
These sunset pictures are amazing!!! Sitting on my patio and watching the sunset is one of my favorite things to do. The sky gets so orange where I love. I especially love that photo of the clouds though!!
Sunrises make everything better. I love how beautiful they are, the colours just make you believe and find hope.
Beautifully written! I love walking alon water; there’s something f so peaceful about it.
Gorgeous photos, I love the sun and all of its beauty! I love the way the sun reflects onto the water, just breathtaking!
My daughter had a lovely time celebrating the summer solstice and International Yoga Day together. For her, it was transient experience that she will remember.
The beauty, power and awesomeness of mother nature has always provided inspiration and reflection of our thoughts. I suppose it is something about realizing the majesty of things that were there long before we came along and will be there long after we have gone. Nice thought-provoking post.
Wonderfull descriptions of sunsets. You really captured their beauty in both the words and images. I’ll have to have a look through my photos to see if I have any that capture ‘transient’.
These photos are gorgeous!! Thank you for sharing!
Your images are a beautiful allegory for transient, stunning sunsets just there for the moment.
Beautiful post! These pictures are just beautiful ❤️ When I think of transient, I think of the morning dew on the grass early morning..or the steam that rises from the ground after a late afternoon rain in the middle of summer 😊
I feel the same way. I love sunsets more than sunrises, for the same reason. The sunset only gives you a brief moment to witness the glorious sun before it sinks over the horizon. Every day, I await that moment when day transitions into night, when the sun is a glowing ball of orange, sinking into the horizon.
Your article is sooo deep. Me and my mom enjoyed reading it. The photos looks relaxing 🙂
These are a collection of great pictures, I’m all in for sunsets but I could never wake up for sunrise.
I love all the pictures that’s why I love summer it makes me feel relax everytime I see the beach and summer was my favorite season
I really can’t believe summer solstice is/was already here. Time really is so transient. Sunsets are also my very favorite time of day…I almost always am out walking during the sunset hour.
These photos are really beautiful! I especially like the sunset on the sea ones, stunning. Nice post 🙂
These are all beautiful photos, Elizabeth. I wish I could snap pics as good as these 🙂
Louise x
Beautiful photos! I agree with you on the sunsets as well, there’s something much more peaceful about seeing the sun go down after a long day.
I love sunrise, to bask and absorb all that glory and possibilities for what the day brings.
I love the quote of Gene Tierney. It is so true. Wealth and beauty might not be permanent.
Your pics are amazing! I think I also like the sunset more than the sunrise. The colors are just fatastic!
I love your photos. They are phenomenal. The sunset is quiet at me … I love the time of day
If I were participating in this Transient Photo Challenge, I would capture images that showed a sailboat gliding over sparkling ocean waters, a group of rays migrating across Banderas Bay, or a cruise ship leaving port. These are the transient images I view daily from the balcony of my second home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They’re lovely, peaceful, serene imagery.
what a beautiful post. love it!
Such great photos – were these shot with your phone ?
Yes, they were shot with my android. Samsung S7
Wow so beautiful! Great work 🙂
These photos look amazing. Thanks for sharing
I rarely catch a sunrise as I’m not much of a morning person. However sunsets are my favorite to catch, especially when I’m traveling to a new place.
All of the images are really gorgeous. It gives me a peaceful and serene feeling. I love the quote too, we can definitely cherish the memory!
I prefer sunsets as well, I like the way that they linger. They appear more beautiful to me, there is something very transient about a sunset x
I prefer the sunrise. It’s so much more powerful and I love watching the night slowly disappear and the starlit sky fade away. =D
I love your writing style, it’s so engaging and fascinating to read. The way you describe sunsets makes me easily visualize them. Very nice read and as always your photos are fantastic!
I love looking at sunrises and sunsets too. I admit, I mostly do the sunset one, because I’m still sleeping during a sunrise! But it’s so calming and peaceful.
Things of this world has a transitory nature and we are also reminded on how to make the best out of it.
Your pictures are stunning. Looking at them makes me feel like I am right there on the river bank!
I too love watching sunsets than sunrises and often find myself capture by it’s beauty. I wish I lived close to the Hudson to also be mesmerized by its beauty.
Beautiful pictures and read. I savor every moment of things that I enjoy as well.
I love your photos. Your challenge is very interesting and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
I love how heart warming this post is. We need to learn to absorb, accept and let go for everything to be in harmony. Thank you for sharing this to all of us.
Transient. Transience. This is a recurrent theme in my life. It is something I need to focus on because it’s at once something I crave and meditate upon often, but also something I feel deeply and rebel against. I am an addict, I have always been. Before it was drugs, it was plays. After drugs, now, it’s people and feelings. Transience means growth, but it also means change; it also means death. Sometimes change is good. Sometimes death is a form of freedom. Part of my difficulty however is that, having PTSD, my body has stopped correctly processing transience. It is stuck in the past, in my past trauma, and it pulls my mind with it. My house is always a mess, the way my abuser kept it..because I can’t remove myself from his life even though I have removed him from mine. I need to find a way out…It’s interesting you mentioned yoga in this post because yoga has been clinically proven to cause PTSD remission. For some reason the actual studio work and community is part of it and right now I can only afford to do it at home. I need to get back into a yoga studio.
Indeed, it is a loaded term and we can apply it to many different phases of our lives… I encourage you to try yoga. It have been a healing choice for me after 2 years of illness that almost killed me. It is grounding and gentle on the body…
I love yoga. It is very healing for me too. unfortunately I can’t afford a studio membership right now so I can only do it at home..which does help, but I (and studies) found the studio membership more beneficial. One day, hopefully!
I hope for you too… 🙂
For me, transient is my baby — two years old now and all grown up. It’s as if yesterday that I gave birth to her.
I experienced transience when I was moving from one job to another. I used to live a fast paced life when I was in the advertising business. Now, after yoga sessions, my baby, and my husband – life has settled down. I personally like sunrise more than sunset, as it presents a day filled with new possibilities. 🙂
Sunset also attract me more because of the colours n I’m usually awake to appreciate it. But at the same time, it reminds me of how I tend to only “treasure” stuff only when they are disappearing.
Hahaha! We have to compromise at times. I love sunsets too.
Crazy how we can all see the same word so differently. I understand transient as a temporary person in my life.
🙂
WOW! I think you’ve won the challenge because all of your photos are amazing! I have never tried yoga but I would love to get into it. The only problem is finding yoga praticing places is hard where I live!
I love these photos. Pictures of sunset is definitely transient and calming. Thanks for sharing.
Whoooaaa… Those are beautiful photos! I live in a coastal remote area, I think photos of water, boat, and sunrise is always the perfect combination.
Such lovely photos. So colourful.
I have always adored both Sunset & Sunrise. The colors are always stunning. Each of those moments is important to me; the Sunrise offers a whole new day of possibilities while the Sunset quietly gives us closure on our day
Your photographs of the Hudson river is gorgeous. I also love sunsets and sunrises. Watching the horizon transition from one shade to another is absolutely beautiful.
Great pictures. I love looking at photos like yours because they are transient, we only have that exact time that the photo was taken. It’s still and beautiful.
I love such pics – sunset, ocean, etc. They’re beautiful
Love your photography and so beautiful. Capturing the sun at the right moment can be hard at time but you got it.
