Weekly Photo Challenge: RESILIENT

30/12/2016

“Resilience isn’t a single skill. It’s a variety of skills and coping mechanisms. To bounce back from bumps in the road as well as failures, you should focus on emphasizing the positive.” Jean Chatzky

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2017

HAPPY NEW YEAR! “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” Ralph Waldo Emerson #happynewyear #happy2017

For our final Photo Challenge in 2016, I love the word we had to work with – RESILIENT. It has been a year of many challenges and we made it. If you are still standing, you have shown great fortitude and a resilient spirit that will carry you into the new year. As I thought about what would work as the perfect example of the resilient spirit, I couldn’t help but think of the birds and other critters that visit my yard throughout the year. The birds are dear to me because they rely on the feeders that many of us put out for them in the winter, and when they arrive and find food in it, they don’t hoard it, they send out a call to other birds to come join in the feast. Through all seasons, they forage for food for their nests and for their flock.

“In order to succeed, people need a sense of self-efficacy, to struggle together with resilience to meet the inevitable obstacles and inequities of life.” Albert Bandura

Another set of images of steady resilience that crossed my mind were the Croton Aqueduct, the Hudson River, and all the evergreen plants and trees that survive the winter, year after year, providing us with their delicate smell and green color. The Croton Aqueduct is a long stretch of a walking trail that cuts across the Hudson valley and meanders into parts of the Bronx. It offers many nooks and crannies, and beautiful flora throughout the year. From time to time, a deer might show up on the path with its offspring just as a mom is strolling by with one of hers, and life continues to tick along. I never tire of it. The same goes for the Hudson River with its beautiful views of the NYC skyline, Jersey City, and the Tappan Zee Bridge, offering much respite when life’s challenges cloud our brains and we need somewhere to go and rejuvenate our bodies and minds.

As I wrap up the year 2016, one of my favorite verses comes to mind, and I am choosing to share part of it because it gave me a ton of hope this year. Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns–and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?. Matthew 6:25-34  I am confident that 2017 will fill us with great hope and better opportunities. Every year, I add a letter to Santa on my December post. This year, I’m posting it a bit late so we will address it to 2017. The sentiments remain the same:

A Letter To 2017
Dearest 2017,
Thank you for the blessings you showered on us in 2016. Thank you for the new friends and fresh opportunities. We are all grateful… My wish for the coming year is more goodwill, grace and abundance in the world, and less misery, meanness and scarcity!
Please don’t mix these two up like you did last year!
With love & gratitude to all,
xoxo

Happy New Year!

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Weekly Photo Challenge Post: –  RESILIENT –  Let’s close the year by celebrating people, places, and objects that endure. This week, share a photo of something that says “resilient” to you. It could be a local landmark that has survived through the decades (or centuries), or a portrait of a person you know who never gives up. You could snap an image of a bed of perennials that never fail to bloom in season, or of a ritual or tradition that you (or people in your community) have successfully preserved. Show us something that has endured. I look forward to your posts this week, and in future challenges in 2017 — happy new year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Have a relaxing weekend!
