Motivation Mondays: The Holiday Season

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill
I awoke this morning with devout Thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new. Ralph Waldo Emerson
The holiday season is the most popular time of the year for identity theft. It’s true. Last Christmas, I saw a hundred guys pretending to be Santa. Jimmy Fallon

Happy Holiday Season! This is a time of great activity; shopping, spending, worrying, thanking and getting giddy over the Winter Solstice on the 21st, the start of Hanukkah on the 24th, Christmas Day on the 25th and Kwanzaa on the 26th. It is a time to take stock of all the things that have brought us to the end of 2016; some great, some good, and some not so good. Regardless of what kind of year this has been for us, we must take some time to reflect, give thanks and stay motivated to start 2017 on a stronger note. WE can start by making a list of all the fun and funny things that happened in 2016. That alone should put a smile on your face. Then make another list of all the lessons you learned and how they made you a better person. Is that helping you shift your mood? I bet it is…

During the holiday season, I often observe a mood shift in people; they seem a tad more hopeful, cheerful and happy about the impending holidays. There is excitement in the air and, if we could package that excitement and share some of it with struggling families or put some in reserve for the coming year, we’d all have a boost in both our energy levels and our spirit. Of course, all of this depends on our attitude and our feelings of gratitude. Instead of counting the 1000 ways 2016 did us wrong, we can spend our time creating new and positive memories to help us wrap up the year. While we are at it, we can also dig up those precious moments that gave us hope and joy this year… If we look closely, we will find them. As the year wraps up, ask yourself: What am I grateful for this year?

A Story –  The Poor Farmer and The Nobleman
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while working on the farm to feed his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog.
There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman’s sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

‘I want to repay you,’ said the nobleman. ‘You saved my son’s life.’
‘No, I can’t accept payment for what I did,’ the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer’s own son came to the door of the family hovel.
‘Is that your son?’ the nobleman asked.
‘Yes,’ the farmer replied proudly.
‘I’ll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he’ll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of.’ And that he did.

Farmer Fleming’s son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the same nobleman’s son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.
What saved his life this time? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill .. His son’s name?
Sir Winston Churchill.
Someone once said: What goes around comes around.
Work like you don’t need the money.
Love like you’ve never been hurt.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Sing like nobody’s listening.
Live like it’s Heaven on Earth.
Have a wondrous Holiday Season
Love and Blessings always!

Every year, during the Holiday Season, I spend time with my friends and family and we look back and find ways to give back.  As I reflect on 2016, I’d like to say THANK YOU all for helping me along the way.  It was both a challenging and rewarding year with lots of magical moments tossed in. My family and friends showed me so much love and care and I cannot thank them enough. I Thank them and all of you out there for the terrific support you’ve given me/ this blog this year. I would not have kept at it without your loving feedback and encouragement. May the coming year be filled with abundant love, joy, blessings, creative gifts and goodwill for all of us. What are your plans for this holiday season?  What do you wish for yourself in the coming year? Thank you ALL!

A Story: Use The Season To Encourage Others Part 1
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window.
The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his room-mate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn’t hear the band — he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Then unexpectedly, a sinister thought entered his mind. Why should the other man alone experience all the pleasures of seeing everything while he himself never got to see anything? It didn’t seem fair. Read the rest Here: Holiday Spirit

The last holidays were a bit different for me, I decided to save up instead or going for shopping so that I won’t struggle finding the kids school fees. The most important thing is that we spend it together as a family.
