Haiku: Be Open-Minded

31/08/2016

“I think being open-minded about what Nature is trying to tell you is the key to being creative and successful.” Bonnie Bassler

Haiku: Be Open-Minded - Through rain and sunshine

Haiku: Be Open-Minded – Through rain and sunshine

When the storms appear…
raining down on your parade
Be Open-minded

When hate fills the air
Snatching love’s sweet melody
Be Open-minded

When called a manqué
By life’s hurt and feckless souls
Be open-minded

As you gain mastery
Untainted by flawed precepts
Stay Open-minded

I’ve never been a fan of zealotry. It maims and dismisses populations of people, casting them aside for a rigid, draconian perspective. When we spend our lives trying to force others to buy into our rigid views of each other and of the world, we can’t win. I believe the world is made up of diverse groups, religions, and cultures for a sound reason. Why must we be co-opted to join what is not of interest to us? Live life fully and treat each other with respect and compassion. Be open to reflection and difference. To respect difference is not a sellout. Why must we all be the same when the world is made up of such abundance? Don’t sell me your bag of trinkets… and I won’t foist mine on you, BUT, respecting each others right to be is paramount. That, my dear ones, is how/where we can develop an open mind about each other.

Haiku: Be Open-Minded - Through rain and sunshine

Haiku: Be Open-Minded – Through rain and sunshine

When night turns to day
And flim flam words fade away
Be Open-minded

When earth’s brightest blooms
Swap their hues for instant gain
Be open-minded

When bigotry reigns
And you’ve challenged ugly claims
Be Open-minded

As your heart opens
Wisdom finds a welcome home
Stay Open-minded…

The late Prince Rogers Nelson once shared in an interview that he preferred to call his followers FRIENDS not FANS because the connotation attached to the word “Fan” is based on fanaticism which is not always positive. We can actively train our minds to be respectfully open to the views and beliefs of others  without negating our own. We can choose to hold unto our beliefs with every ounce of strength in our body and stay blind to the kaleidoscopic ranges that shape our diverse world.  It must be tiring to remain myopic about the rest of the world in an aim to be right. I’ve never understood those who can’t live and let live and are bent on twisting everyone into a specific pretzel shape of their imagination. As we learn to respect each other and adopt an open mind about our basic rights, we will be the richer for it. What thought patterns continue to hold you back? Stay Open-minded!

This post was inspired by two Daily Word Prompts:  OPEN-MINDED For this week’s Discover Challenge, share a post about a time when staying open-minded paid off — or didn’t. Or tell us about an experience where, despite your best efforts, you couldn’t quite make the necessary leap of faith. It could also be about an encounter you had where someone else gave you the benefit of the doubt, or disappointed you with a superficial judgment. Your post can come in any format or style — from a poem to a photo essay to a piece of memoir, or anything else, really. (We’re open-minded like that!) I look forward to seeing your takes on this topic!

You have to acknowledge and accept that you do not know everything to be open-minded about all things. Therein lies the rub as way too many think they, or those who they believe in, do even about nature. Great post.

Beautiful, calming and stress-free pictures! I just kept looking at them, perhaps it’s the colours on them that Ifind so fascinating. I try to be open minded and go out of my usual and well-stucked way of thinking. Thanks for these thoughts – i found them very inspirational.

Being open minded is key. We don’t all have to be the same to get along. In fact, that’s no fun!

I do agree that we should be open-minded in showing love for others, regardless of who they are, etc. However, I don’t think I should be so open-minded that I discount or compromise on what I believe in. Does that make sense?

An open mind is always advatageous because you learned so many things that you won’t be able to learn if you close mind to a lot of things.

Beng Open minded. This is a reminder not just for others but also ourselves. We tend to judge others, forgetting that we are not being open minded about others.

I am always impress with those people who are famous but they don’t put it in their head. It really better if you call your follower your friends. Since you are not there in the pedestal without them

Wonderful, thought provoking post as always. Is being open minded the key to respecting others, or is it the other way around? One certainly can’t go without the other.

The differences in us are what makes this world so beautiful. But if our minds are closed, then we never get to fully experience that beauty.
