Haiku: Our CONNECTIONS – Wax and wane…

In winter and fall…
rekindled relationships
warm the hearth and heart

Over many years…
our connections waxed and waned
entangled by words

In winter and fall…
dwindled friendships and foes go
maimed hearts hibernate

Throughout our lives, we build all sorts of connections. Some of them are for a lifetime while others are fleeting and serve a very temporary role in our lives. But all our connections leave remnants or traces of what was and what could have been, and they inform our experiences and memories that get tucked away in the recesses of our hearts. In my years blogging, I’ve come across many, many creative souls and all have left something behind; a lesson, a memory, a sweetness, a harsh realization but, no regrets. I am at peace with that.

Summer, Spring, Autumn…
cycles of connections grow
fueled memories

Life … in retrospect
measured by our connections
both large and little

Summer, Spring, Autumn…

cherished memories

Some of us love exploring our thoughts in haiku, as it forces us to snip away at our tendency to be verbose. Or as writer Ta-Nehisi Coates said in his book, Between The World And Me, poetry helps us get rid of distracting, useless words. I like that. For this piece on connections, I wanted to take a look at all sorts of connections we experience in our lives. I wanted to explore them without fully naming them. They are indeed like the seasons … they come and go. They wax and wane. What are your memories of your many connections?

Online and Offline…
connections bred everywhere
like new shoots, plantings

We plant evergreens
Of digital tales on blogs
As readers turn friends

Online and Offline…
connections frayed everywhere
Some grow, others … don’t!

In peace and wartime
connections pull us closer
Love infused treasures

In peace and wartime
connections tear us apart
Which path will YOU choose?

After writing this piece, I decided to try a completely different ending and, added the last two stanzas. They take a somewhat different perspective but, the message remains the same. Our connections change. Choose and cherish the ones that matter. What are your thoughts?
