Weekly Photo Challenge: OPPOSITES

01/07/2016

“Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash.” Louis Aragon

Weekly Photo Challenge: Opposites – Dusk and Dawn

For this week’s photo challenge on OPPOSITES, I decided to share photos that represented dusk and dawn … night and day. Since I enjoy walking on the pedestrian pathway at the Hudson River Park in Westchester County, NY, I find myself taking photos early in the morning and at dusk. I think the contrast is such that it gives us much to appreciate about how the day unfolds into dusk and then darkness. Each day and each series of shots end up being quite a bit different; even as the setting stays the same. I hope you enjoy the contrast of opposite times of the day at the same location – The Hudson River. Have a very restful July 4th!

What I like about this week’s challenge is that the assignment will give each of us a chance to feature our interpretations of opposites easily. Some of the challenges are tougher and so they can be difficult to find even one related shot. I also considered doing a big and small, and an old and new set but, I couldn’t find examples in my photo files that would do the subject justice. For now, these will have to do. Wishing everyone a relaxing and peaceful weekend! <3

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: OPPOSITES   – This week, make two opposing elements come together (or clash in dissonance) in one photo. In your photo this week, show how opposites can tell a story about people, places, or objects. The tension can reside in what you choose to show — old vs. new, big vs. small, dark vs. light — or in how you frame and design your shot. I look forward to seeing your entries!

Positive Motivation Tip: Opposites allow us to understand the power of contrasts. Enjoy the difference.

They say opposites attract. I completely believe that, too!

Everyone always says opposites attract. Your dusk and dawn photos are simply stunning. I don’t get to see a sunrise or sunset where I live now. I miss them.

These photos are so nice and they really capture the essence of summer. I can’t wait to make memories like these in the upcoming months.

I love love love the water photos! We are headed up to Cape Vincent, NY this upcoming Saturday, right on the St. Lawrence river. This is what this photo reminds me of!

Ah you and Tough Cookie Mom are neighbors? I do always appreciate how careful you are to pick the perfect photos. Awesome as always. Happy 4th to you!

Yes we are neighbors in NY. We live in neighboring areas that can be reached easily… and we have the Zoo and Botanical Gardens as common meeting points.
