Weekly Photo Challenge: VIBRANT

“I like light, color, luminosity. I like things full of color and vibrant.” Oscar de la Renta

Weekly Photo Challenge: VIBRANT - A Splash Of Colors!

Weekly Photo Challenge: VIBRANT – A Splash Of Colors!

Vibrancy is so universally desirable, so totemic in its powers, that even though we aren’t sure what the word means, we know the quality it designates must be cultivated. The vibrant, we believe, is what makes certain cities flourish. Thomas Frank

Oh how I love the splash of vibrant colors I see in so many places! Today’s challenge put a big smile on my face because, lately, we have been inundated with snow and grey days; I’ve been wishing for the colorful days of summer time again and this exercise gave me a chance to up the ante on all the colors I’ve captured over the past many months. I love kaleidoscopic, vibrant colors, and whenever I enter a room with lots of cheerful colors, like yellows, oranges, gold, reds, bright blues and greens, they cheer me up and brighten my spirit. Of course, we can add cheer to our lives in many other ways but color is an immediate spirit booster. Add a splash of color to a room and see the mood shift in that space. I can’t see enough color around me.

My photos came from a wide range of places; some of the flowers were from a bouquet, my garden, and/or the local flower shop. The ladies dressed as lollipops were part of a team that were present at the last Bloggers Bash event in NYC. The wall art with birds flying in a yellow, orangey sky were from a building at a campsite in Dutchess County, NY. The 2016 colorful glasses were part of our New Year’s Day celebrations and the colorful poles were part of an art installation in Woodstock, NY… and on and on. Enjoy the blast of colors!

“It takes a lot of effort to be vibrant.” Tom Stoppard

Most inspiration still comes from bicycling around San Francisco. This city never fails to inspire me. It is one of the most vibrant cities – especially visually – with a constant influx of young energy arriving daily. I love it. Barry McGee
New York is one of the greatest cities in the world. It is a fitting host to its many international visitors, who can come to witness first-hand what a vibrant multicultural democracy looks like. Ban Ki-moon

How is vibrancy expressed? As I contemplated this exercise, it struck me that vibrancy is expressed in other ways too. For instance, one of my favorite cities, New York City, is a vibrant city because of its energy and multicultural dynamic but, it is not visually vibrant.  San Francisco, on the other hand, is also one of my favorites cities on the planet and it is truly a visually vibrant place. Think of those colorful homes or painted ladies that dot the landscape of that gorgeous city and, of course, the trolleys and the majestic burnt orange of the Golden Gate Bridge. We can say the same for other visually colorful cities around the world; Rio, Stockholm, Amsterdam and many, many more. So, vibrancy can be a quality as well as a color and we know it when we see it or feel it. How do you express yours?

A busy, vibrant, goal-oriented woman is so much more attractive than a woman who waits around for a man to validate her existence. Mandy Hale, The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass
When women reassert their relationship with the wildish nature, they are gifted with a permanent and internal watcher, a knower, a visionary, an oracle, an inspiratrice, an intuitive, a maker, a creator, an inventor, and a listener who guides, suggests, and urges a vibrant life in the inner and outer world. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Don’t forget to cultivate your inner Vibrant Self: We are responsible for our joy, and Mandy and Clarissa are encouraging us to embrace that side of our personality. Follow you heart and dreams and make sure to nurture what gives you joy.  Also,  I love the message of David’s quote, above, because it is a great reminder that vibrancy doesn’t end with the external colors and energy we think of when we ponder the term. We need to cultivate our inner life and make sure it is peopled with humor, color, creativity and self-care. If we allow our inner life to become barren, our outer experience will reflect the same.

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme – VIBRANT

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: VIBRANT –  This week, share a photo of something vibrant. Vivid colors, a lively portrait, or perhaps a delightfully colorful landscape, if you’re in a warmer climate. Let’s wash the web with a rainbow of colors to keep the winter gloom at bay.

Positive Motivation Tip: Fill your inner and outer life with vibrant colors and goals. Your Muse awaits you!

Visually, New Orleans is super vibrant, especially during Mardi Gras and I love going there with my daughter. Even though my hometown in Michigan isn’t visually vibrant, it feels vibrant because my brothers and sisters live there.
