“I see the state of all of us who live, nothing more than phantoms or a weightless shadow.” Sophocles

Some have a little balloon touch, but you can always see through. So without being naked, you can see the body. So the clothes float around the body in a way. Everything’s very light, light, light. The main thing is weightless, weightless, weightless. Karl Lagerfeld
The real pleasure was having the chance to enjoy being weightless, and the other was to spend some time looking out at this beautiful Earth that we’re all lucky to inhabit. Robert Crippen

For this exercise, I reached for the things that always remind me of weightlessness… balloons, birds in flight, koi ponds with fish, water fountains with objects that seem to float on top and such. As I pulled it all together, I kept thinking of Ben’s mention of Icarus and then I remembered why! Some time ago, I saw a piece of sculpture that was of a man with huge wings. The sculpture was cast in bronze and it was weighed down by gravity; so even though it was of a man ready to take flight, the feeling of how weighed the wings were was unavoidable … I included some of those shots too.

“It was swimming that stumped us. Everyone knows that, in water, fish are weightless.” Adrian Bejan

“And after we returned to the savannahs and abandoned the trees, did we long for those great graceful leaps and ecstatic moments of weightlessness in the shafts of sunlight of the forest roof?” Carl Sagan

Come back for some more shots later as I dig for more on this theme….
This post was inspired by a prompt from the Weekly Photo Challenge: Weekly Photo Challenge: WEIGHT(LESS) This week, share a photo of something marked by its weight — or its air of weightlessness. Show us gravity at its most unforgiving, or most generous. Bricks or feathers. A collapsed ruin or a plane taking off. A heavy piece of old furniture or the flying buttresses of a cathedral. Keep in mind that weight doesn’t even have to be physical: emotions and memories can weigh on us (or lift our spirits) at least as much as real objects. I look forward to your photos this week.

Positive Motivation Tip:How do you measure weightlessness? With an open mind and heart…
