Haiku: A Third Rate Romance

A date night in June
He, Sharp shark. She, Starry eyed
Dress code: casual … cool

Cafe on Main St
Sharp shark is early, She … late
Bad start to a date

Starry eyes strolls in
Casual cool, leggings, PINK boots
Sharp shark looks … surprised

Have you ever had a third rate romance unfold? Many of us have had awkward moments trying to find/build a relationship with someone new. For this exercise, I decided to modify a true  story to protect the innocent/guilty. In new relationships, we often have expectations that might not gel with reality. Humor and clarity help but, if one party really dislikes what the other loves, it is probably best to scram…  Go where you’re loved.

She, finds him … cringes
Zoot suit, Wall Street bound … black shoes
Exit signs in eyes

Sharp Shark speaks: “You’re late!”
Starry eyes replies: “Shucks! Tea?”
Fingers snap … Waiter!

Intros, Orders, taken
Sharp shark, drones on … She, fidgets
Drinks arrive … two bills

How did it end?  Have you ever had a first date the was far off in left field that you wanted to get up and run out of the building?  If we’re sincere, we might even admit being on the flip side of a third rate romance, at least once; you know, the one who sat while the other party bolted.  Whatever the  memory, it’s fine because these incidents add something to our bag of life stories and experience.  Ha!

A 3rd Rate Romance

What inspired this version of a 3rd rate romantic escapade?  First off, the WordPress prompt got me thinking about some disastrous encounters. Then, I looked at a pair of Pink Doc Martens I bought recently, and an idea formed in my head… Interesting about the creative muse, right? Lately, I’ve taken advantage of the Haiku form in creating pieces that, while they still follow the 5-7-5 syllable format, also tell an obvious, straight up story. I tell the story without too many short, symbolic, coded  metaphors. I still love to use some but, the storytelling is also clear. Hope you enjoyed this Wednesday creative writing challenge.

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme – Third Rate Romance  – below.

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Third Rate Romance Tell us your funniest relationship disaster story.

Positive Motivation Tip:  All relationships and/or romantic exchanges leave us with memories that we can learn from and cherish. Make peace with yours.

Unfortunately I have had one too many third rate romances. Thankfully I never had that problem with shoes. Never met a pair I didn’t like!

I can’t think of any relationship disaster at present that has occur to me. But I feel comfortable trusting my gut feelings…..And walking away is my only choice.

Interesting topic to pair with pink Doc Martins. They remind me of my husband’s fashion sense, and that was not a third rate romance at all 😉

The color of the boots is so different, which I have not seen much before. But I am surely loving it for being so unique. May be I would love to try one such combo or a purple one.

So interesting! I want to try it. I can think of an interesting dated dating disaster to work out in the haiku, too. And those Doc Martens? Love.
