Weekly Photo Challenge: Oops!

This Challenge was hard because I don’t document Oops moments or save photos that strike me as a major mistake. I agonized over this one a little bit because I do love beautiful and focused photos. I make my share of Oops photography moments and usually delete them, unless, as in the collection above and below, I forget to do so. There was a picture that I couldn’t find that would have been perfect for this but you know the story… they varnish when we need them. Each of the shots above/below, represent a bit of an Oops moment; some real and some invented. Come back later for information on each of them.

The exercise got me thinking about the whole idea of Oops/mistakes and how we respond to them. It would never occur to me to photograph such events anyway… Why would I want to remember? However, there is something to be said about the advent of Social Media because it allows us to capture, record and share events as they unfold; even embarrassing ones. Who knew, right? I have to say that one of the many reasons I look forward to the weekly photo challenges is that they force us to think outside of our safe photography nets and to think of new ways to capture what we see.  I like that and now I know that, moving forward, I will have one more folder to add content – the Oops/Mistakes Folder.  Thank you guys!

I haven’t forgotten that I planned to share the Oops in the shots… The middle shot is obvious. As a huge truck bed flew by, I pointed my finger at the truck show it and there you see my finger got in the way. The broken handle of one of my favorite mugs is self explanatory. The young man carrying a backpack was caught by my lens even thought he was not the intended focus… stuff appears.  A bird flew down to eat some bread bread crumbs. As I pointed my lens to snap a shot, it looked at me and flew away. I caught the crumb but not the bird. On a hiking trip, I wanted to capture the coke bottle abandoned on a tree stump. Somehow, part of a hiker’s face got in the way. The bird shots and the boating dock shot are just representative of un-intended blocks/bars/extra images that show up in the shot… Ha! What about you? What do your photo-oops shots look like?  Happy Holiday Season! Stay Safe. Stay inspired. Have a Happy Weekend!

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme – Oops! – below.

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Oops! –  This week, share a photographic “Oops!” moment with us. The fiasco could be what’s in the picture: anything broken, jumbled, or otherwise cringe-worthy (ugly sweaters are encouraged!). Or it could be something in the photo-taking itself, from the tip of your finger ruining a meticulously framed panorama to an inopportune shadow messing up a family portrait. Go funny, or serious, or go with a mixture of both — just let it all hang. You’re among friends!

Positive Motivation Tip: We all have Oops moments and the magic is being able to laugh about them and capture them for posterity.

Ooops! This happens to everyone of us. Just when we think it’s the perfect time to capture the moment and somebody/something butts in.
