Weekly Photo Challenge: GRID

18/09/2015

“When I first made a grid, I happened to be thinking of the innocence of trees, and then a grid came into my mind and I thought it represented innocence, and I still do, and so I painted it and then I was satisfied. I thought, ‘This is my vision.'” Agnes Martin

Weekly Photo Challenge: GRID – Individual Shots

I think New York is a good place to write in general because it’s a grid. It’s organized. You know where you are on the map. That centers you, and your imagination is perhaps freer to roam. Alex Turner

For this exercise, I found some grid filled photos I took around NYC,  in Washington DC and Virginia. The NYC shots are of Columbia University’s Library uptown Manhattan, and of the Gerhy designed building in midtown on the Westside Highway. The Washington DC outside and inside shots are of their magnificent train station, and I was so taken by the grids and curves that I took a lot more. As for the double windows taken at night, I can’t tell you the name of the station. I took it from a slow-moving train on my way to a conference. I will add the full images via MESH shortly so you can see what they look like in larger size.

“I’ve lived a slower and less expensive life going off the grid, and I’m happier because of it.” Ed Begley, Jr.

We often take for granted that our lights will come on when we flip the light switch, but the reality is that our reliability standards and the current state of the transmission grid leave us all vulnerable to blackouts. Richard Burr

I’d love to say that this was more fun because I actually enjoy taking grid shots… Yeah, some of us are hung up on those thirds that we look at everything through a grid… haha!

“The American order reveals a method that was largely the outcome of material necessity, as exemplified by the Colonial style and the grid.” Stephen Gardiner

I get so much inspiration from my travels, but I also started an exercise where I write down so many words every week. Then I begin crossing them off. We create a grid of words and also images, but words for me are more ample because you can interpret them your own way. Francisco Costa

Don’t be alarmed that I offered the same shot 3 times, I’m doing it strictly for the way it gets shared on my social media accounts and I do like uniformity. I finally figured out that if I publish my post with the picture I want distributed first, I can add more pictures afterwards. So stay tuned for the rest. Thank you! That said, I wish all a restful and peaceful weekend. Enjoy the photos and hug your loved ones. Have a Happy Weekend!

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme – GRID – below.

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: GRID  –  This week, make a grid the centerpiece of your photo. Next week, they can lapse back into our photographic subconscious, but this week, let’s give them some time in the sun! We often superimpose a mental grid over things we photograph to help with composition. This week, let’s go literal.

Positive Motivation Tip: On the grid or off the grid, it’s all about keeping those lines and life in a way that makes us smile.

You chose some absolutely beautiful architecture to feature here. I think it is kind of funny because I have heard many Chicagoans complain about navigating NY because of its lack of a grid. Maybe it’s just something that insiders know, huh?

The structural designs moved my heart when I remember those tragic night at the top of the building. Well, it’s just a nightmare for me but now I realized the beauty behind the symmetry of geometrical designs that built within the framework of love.

I like that the challenge this week is grid. Great photos! It does catch organization and symmetry, which is what I would love to believe is the representation of grid to begin with.

Sometimes I too look after a grid – usually the painted windows in churches make me think of a grid or large buildings with impressive fences, similar to those illustrated by you in your post. A grid indeed suggest order, method, and in various occasions we need to be more organized 🙂

I look for a brief description of this “grid” for what first comes to mind is the world map which is divided into grid. And I found it so related to what my expectation is. This is a kind of photo art which focuses on “grid” spectacular. – Gil Camporazo
