The Care Bears need you!
Please Tell Us How You Share Your Care by signing up as a member of the Share Your Care Crew today and tell us how you #ShareYourCare!

How do I Share I Care? Today is National Care Bears #ShareYourCare Day and it is an honor to join forces with The Care Bears to Share I Care, to help 10 year old Zach Kaplan of #ZachKapCares achieve his mission of donating 400 bears to Leake & Watts, a head start program in NY, so children in need can have a soft bear to hug at night, and to promote this special day. The Care Bears have always held a special place in my heart because, right from the early days of their creation, they have always stood for something positive and good and caring.

The Care Bears were created in 1981 by The American Greetings Corporation and starred in their first movie; The Care Bears in the Land Without Feelings, in 1983. The Bears were all about helping kids feel better about themselves and sharing goodwill and care around the planet. When my kids were younger, I bought them their favorite Care Bears and they loved hugging them and playing with them.  After a while, for reasons I don’t understand, they became hard to find, and we went on a hunt throughout my county, looking to replace a bear that one of my kids had lost. We found one in a consignment store and brought it home with much love and care. My kids loved the TV show and the movies, and it was heartwarming to see that they remembered what they saw and used it in their interactions with others.
“Caring, sharing, and best friends we’ll be. Hand in hand, heart to heart, From this day forward, I’m willing to start!” Care Bears #ShareYourCare Oath

National Care Bears #ShareYourCare Day!

National Care Bears #ShareYourCare Day!

#ShareYourCare comes in all sizes. It can be small, simple things like sharing a toy with your sibling, taking out the trash for your mom, helping an older neighbor across the street; or bigger things like planting a tree, and spending a day volunteering for a charity. Through this important movement, the Care Bears are inspiring everyone to be kind, think of others and #ShareYourCare every day.

How Do I Share I Care? I share I care through volunteer work and writing. For many years, I’ve volunteered at food banks, soup kitchens, women’s shelters/programs, Public reading programs, PTSA events and fairs/campaigns that help people learn about health and wellness. When the HIV/AIDS epidemic was raging in the 1980s, I volunteered at God’s Love We Deliver and learned so much about the many great souls who fought and lost, and those who fought to help them get government aid. Volunteering is an important part of life; it matters in my life and it’s a great way to give back to our communities. Even if we can’t give cash or goods, we can always give our time.

For the last 4-5 years, I’ve been a volunteer at Mother’s Kitchen which is a soup kitchen, started in 1996, that purchases, prepares and serves free meals to the homeless, the poor, and anyone in need of a hot meal. There are about 42 locations in the US, and I volunteer at one in NYC. I feel a great connection to the people who come to our Manhattan location in NYC because many are immigrants, like me, and the joy and gratitude they express is something to witness. In addition to helping serve food, I share the task of taking the dirty kitchen towels, counter mops and aprons home to wash and fold them in preparation for the following month. Each of us can help our fellow-men and women by sharing our time, and making a difference in someone’s life.  As the Care Bears always say; Sharing is Caring!

How do YOU Share YOU Care? We all have different ways we share our care and help others; many of us are caregivers and custodians of young kids. We do our duties without recognition or accolades and the work we do matters. We can start in small ways by our interactions with our family, friends and people in need in our communities. We can start by taking the #ShareYourCare Oath below, and sharing it with others, as a way to start a conversation about giving back and showing compassion for those in need. The beauty of volunteer work, giving back, or sharing we care is that it is never too late to start. May we all find ways to uplift each other and add to the beauty, not the burdens, of this planet.

I was a teenager when the Care Bears were first released. They were as popular with teenage girls as with little kids! I don’t think we really got the meaning of them back then. I do agree with the message, though. If we all cared just a little more about the person next door or down the street or across town, this world would be a better place.

It brings a different sense of happiness and fulfillment whenever you can share. Good concept. Lets share like care bears.

I’ve been seeing care bears before but unfortunately, I never got to own one because it was quite pricey in our country. There’s really something about that stuffed toy – maybe the color or the look – that makes children feel better… feel happier. This is a nice campaign as it really relates well to their brand.

And just to share… I share care towards people as simple as asking them how they are and being there when they need someone.

    • 13/09/2015 12:05 am
