Haiku: Dear Mom…

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.”Honore de Balzac

Haiku: Dear Mom – Collage of the seasons of her life

Fall leaves floating by

lifetimes of hurt swept aside

winter’s balm beckons…

Cherry blossoms smile

changing seasons of our lives

Love is all we have…

I love Haiku,as a form of poetry because it forces us to choose our words carefully. When you have a 5-7-5 set of syllables to work with in a stanza, you must pare things down. I hope you like this ode to my Mom and to all Moms.

“Men are what their mothers made them.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Haiku: Dear Mom – Collage of symbols of the 4 seasons.

A Sunflower dance

Grapes of wrath have come and gone

Love whispers … Dear Mom

Love, life’s shifting winds

In spring, summer, fall, winter

A mom’s heart … steadies

More below!

“My mother taught me about the power of inspiration and courage, and she did it with a strength and a passion that I wish could be bottled.” Carly Fiorina

Dear Mom, I thank you

for memories  … dark and light

A child’s love, feeds on…

I definitely agree with you in regards to Haikus as a written medium; even though they seem easy to write you have to stop and really put thought into the words you’re going to say. All of your haikus are beautiful!

I am not a very good poet. Haiku seem simple enough, but it is hard to make the syllables fit the form yet come up with a meaningful and vivid imagery for it.

I would prolly have made the same Haiku because I can relate. With all the warmth we get from our mom’s love, we also get some dark memories because of tough love, but in the end, our mom just wants what’s best for us.
