Everything has seasons, and we have to be able to recognize when something’s time has passed and be able to move into the next season. Everything that is alive requires pruning as well, which is a great metaphor for endings. Henry Cloud
What came to mind when I read today’s challenge was the world of plants and that off-season time when everything lies fallow. During that period, everything lies dormant waiting for the new season to bring forth new life. In the off-season, we do the work to sow the seeds for what we hope to come. Likewise, when we fail at a task, be it watching a seed we planted that didn’t germinate, we work to fix the problem so next time new seed will grow. The off-season is perhaps even more important than the on-season, n’est pas? As Gordon B. Hinckley said, “Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds.” I’ve added a contrasting set of pictures so you can see what the yard/garden and nearby farm looks like in-season.

The shots above are a mix of vacated locations that include a NYC street, my yard, a very popular mall in my area, and a nearby farm. Something about that shot of the wood pecker digging for worms as the vestiges of a winter snowstorm lingers on in the frame… It was a late snowfall as early spring peeked it’s head in the yard. Some green was slowly showing and a sudden snowstorm put their efforts back to bed. The bird didn’t care and went about its business pecking away. There is a touch of sunshine which adds a glow to the shot… The rest of the shots are self explanatory but, they are in the vein of off-season things we see in a yard/garden/farm or city. What do you think?

It’s funny that you write about season moments. This summer (well, it actually starts on 6/21, but now that school is out I am calling it summer), we have had so many chilly fall and spring like days. That’s crazy Chicago weather for you….and climate change. I wonder what our seasons will be like 100 years from now.

I am thankful that there are seasons or periods of time that we go through things in this lifetime.
Even though I don’t like dealing with chronic pain, I know that God will use it for his Glory.
Indeed… the cold season is harsh on chronic pain sufferers.

I agree, there is a season for everything and I am glad that I don’t have to stay held up in season’s past. I love moving forward and looking on to new things. That’s really the only way you can grow.
A lovely selection of the seasons, I enjoyed the photos very much. It’s funny how a familiar place can look so unrecognizable when blanketed with snow.
I miss the seasons here in Australia. I live in the sub-tropics of Queensland, so it’s either hot or cool! We still use the terms Spring Summer Autumn and Winter because in other states here they do get frost and snow, just not up here. I used to love seeing each season when I lived in the UK, and each one had it’s merits and excitement (and drawbacks).
I love the changing seasons too even though I’m not a fan of snow or cold weather… The changes keep it all interesting 🙂

I believe the ‘off-season’ here refers to the transition period between 2 seasons? in that case, some of this ‘off-season’ period can be as pretty (if not prettier) than in-season. for example, the transition of autumn to winter, no? 🙂

I have to say that there is something peaceful about a winter morning. The birds aren’t singing and there are no leaves on the trees. It is really peaceful.
It’s a good time to be reflective during off-seasons. It allows to clear our heads and think clearly. This makes it easier to rise again and get back on track with a better attitude.

I agree, the off season is prolly more impt than the actual season itself. The preparation and labor goes into the off season, and usually you get to enjoy the fruits pf the labor just at the season, if it is successful. Same thing goes for a lot of things in life actually.
Off-Season is not happening in my country because we have summer 365 days here. It’s always hot or rain, no so fun. But i do enjoy going holidays and taking all the photos of spring, autumn and winter, they are beautiful.

My country doesn’t have 4 seasons. Thus, I never really experience the off season moments. I have been to some countries, but normally will in winter or summer, but not when the season is going to change.

On our part of the world the temperature is high as of the moment I feel I am struggling in a desert…such a hard journey and I wish to overcome the hurdles.
Seasons come and seasons go but we need to adopt well with each season that comes. That holds true in life as we need to adopt to changes as well.
