I chose these two items because they were treasured items; one was a wedding gift from a good family friend and the other a purchase from a cherished event. When they broke, I kept them. Of course, in retrospect, I could have tossed them or bought some putty to fix the pieces but I didn’t. Sometimes, we hold onto broken things because they capture a moment, a memory, a painful or joyful time… We can still see beauty in broken things… Just look and remember the memories attached.

That mug came from the Omega Conference for women… It was held in NYC and I met so many wonderful people. When it broke, I packed the 2nd one away and now I wonder if I should use it as a mini planter. The message on the mug is an important reminder to care for self.

I have a few broken things that I’ve kept on to because of what they meant to me when they were whole. I do sometimes see beauty in broken things but I do however prefer them whole. 🙂

Hahaha!! I throw some and keep some. These are in that pretty shade of blue most of us love. Plus, they have sentimental value or they would have been tossed. 😉

I hate it when I break something that is a treasured gift! I have done that on more than one occasion. It’s not the fact that I broke it, it’s the fact that it can’t be replaced!

I know some very good glue that could restore them. I of course understand your message, but I think that some things could also gain an added meaning and worth if you make an effort to restore them.
I’m hardly the artsy sort of person and so it’s hard for me to appreciate such abstract beauty of broken things. I take a practical view towards such items, especially for mugs and vases (glass, ceramic wares). when broken, it’s not safe to keep them anymore. we can easily cut our fingers on the sharp edges of the broken corner/pieces. For me, things (or even relationships) are broken for a good reason. we should not hang on to broken things. throw them out, and move on.
I can tell… to each his/her own. 🙂

The broken vase not only has memories attached but it reminds me of our own lives. We often are broken and have flaws but God uses them to build our character.

Any material things or not, once it’s broken, fixing it up according to your ways, the scar still remains. Because, life is a continuous processes of fixing broken and unbroken pieces.
Awww… that’s sweet. I keep all the gifts my ex gave me that were broken over time in a bottle. One day, when I will bury them or throw them away as a form of ceremonial goodbye!

These photos were all very artistically taken, it made me forget about the whole theme of being broken haha. The word broken always remind me of a person in his dark hour and also reminds me that Jesus is the one who truly heal broken hearts and people and make them whole again. To me, that’s the beauty of being broken, it’s an opportunity for God to reach out to us and show His love. 🙂

I see beauty in broken things, too. It reminds me of how nothing is permanent in this world. As messy as it gets, some don’t recover from being broken but it doesn’t have to be that way because it may be a blessing in disguise. The things, people that make us broken should probably not be in our lives but I believe that there’s a purpose why they had to do that. It’s all just a matter of attitude if we choose to let this destroy us or make us stronger.
True… we can work to be stronger and more appreciative of our brokenness…

broken doesn’t have to be a bad thing! I feel like we all have to be alittle bit broken so we can grow! We learn from our experiences, good or bad!
We look at things differently and I believe those who find the beauty of broken things are optimistic. I have had broken items in my cabinet and I don’t repair them too because when I do, I feel like it’s not the same thing anymore.

Very nice photo challenge and I can see it can be interpreted in so many ways. We are all worthy and beatiful despite our flaws, like being broken. That’s what makes us interesting and unique.
I also understand you when you decided to keep the broken wedding gift. It really is hard to part with things that have a lot of sentimental value to us. But now I’m learning to let go of more stuff (not necessarily broken) and just keep the memories with me.

what an interesting theme. I too see beauty in broken things… but admittedly it’s usually the memories and sentiments associated, that we hang on to.
Those are precious broken things that reminds not only you but all of us that broken or lost things do have value if that thing once made us happy.
Good thing we have preserved many of our wedding gifts. But , it saddened me to see broken things that has good memories embedded on it.
I think you did a great job for the challenge this week. Love the photos and the concept you have used. I too have a tendency to hold on to things which I am attached to and which got damaged accidently. I don’t know know if I appreciate the beauty of the broken product but the sentimental value of the thing is too much to give it up.
These photos are making me to think beyond just a broken piece of a cup or a jug and it has a hidden message with them. I can relate them to anything with flaws but yet can looks so wonderful and has some hidden qualities.

I did the same with some birthday gifts from my friends waayyyy back in highschool. The broken glass even wounded me one time when I was cleaning up my “Memory” boxes..

The thing about broken things is the choice to repair them or let go of the broken part. It may be repaired but the scars always remain but those scars do remind us to make better choices.

But God works best through the broken ones. The egg shell has to be broken before the egg contents can be useful. Just like human beings. We are imperfect and because of our broken-ness, God can work his will in our lives.
These are beautiful photos. I didn’t know something broken could still turn out beautiful, at least on pictures. However, my mom wouldn’t want to keep em. She believes that anything broken shouldn’t be kept and should be thrown away. To avoid badluck. 😀 Although I think otherwise. haha
