Flip-Flop: Are You A Night Or Day Person?

Night is purer than day; it is better for thinking and loving and dreaming.
At night everything is more intense, more true.
The echo of words that have been spoken during the day, take on a new and deeper meaning. Elie Wiesel

I’ve always seen myself as a night person; as some would have it, a night owl.  Over the years, that has changed. As a child, I disliked the day time because it meant I had to get up and start the school day. On weekends, it didn’t matter because we could sleep in. I enjoyed night time and the quiet it brought to my surroundings. I liked the stillness and that feeling stayed with me for many years.

“To dream by night is to escape your life. To dream, by day is to make it happen.” Stephen Richards

Do not spend the day in getting flowers by the way side, lest the night come upon you before you arrive at your journey’s end, and then you will not reach it. Isaac Watts

As time went by, I found that in order to get things done, I needed to get up in the morning and follow those early birds to finish up the day.  In college, I got to choose my classes so no surprise that I chose late classes and enjoyed the extra morning time. If I had a morning class, I would take it and wonder how others could be so alert at 8 am. What about you?

“For every dark night, there’s a brighter day.” Tupac Shakur

It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light, it scattered the night and made the day worth living. F. Scott Fitzgerald

Several years ago, I found myself enjoying the early morning hours more and gradually switched over to being an early bird. I don’t know what the genesis of the change was but I can say I like it. Not 100% but I start my day earlier and get stuff done. I do flip flop over whether I’m an early bird or a night owl, but it doesn’t matter. What really matters is that I start and end my day feeling grateful for what I have and leaving the regrets for another day. Do you rise early or late? Do you retire to bed early or late? Do you know why?

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.” Edgar Allan Poe

We like the rain if the sun comes out after it; we like night if the day comes after it; we like everything conditionally! We are conditional people. Mehmet Murat IIdan

I was pondering the flip flop nature of human behavior, when I came across Mehmet’s quote. I had to smile because he is quite right. We vacillate over things and choose them when they benefit us…  I still love what night hass to offer , but the day holds its magic too… Which will I choose? Neither. I’m happy to have the option to experience both. What about you?

Stay Inspired, have a great month of May and thank you for stopping by!

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Flip Flop  Think of a topic or issue about which you’ve switched your opinion. Why the change?

Positive Motivation Tip:  Day or night, night or day, use your time wisely.

When I was young I was a definite night person–then for reasons unknown to me I became a day person——

I like the mornings because I can get a lot done. I love night time because I can sit back and relax.

Love the idea of the flip flop! I may follow through and create one of my own. 🙂 I too am a night person but never changed that & have no plans to! I’m most productive at night.

I am a early bird by necessity, since my work day as a nurse starts at 6:30 am and ends at 7pm. A lot of night shift nurses I work with that really do thrive on working nights, some find it very difficult, while others can flip-flop fairly easily. I don’t know how they do it, but I need to get to bed early so I can get up early, stay sane and be productive.

I’m definitely more of a night owl. I do like getting up early and having that quiet time before the kids start that day and sunrises are beautiful, but like you said, I’ve always been drawn to the stillness and beauty of night. I like that I’m up and doing while others are slumbering! lol

What time of day were you born? I was born early in the morning and have been a morning person ever since!

I appreciated the quote from Mehmet. I have been living many years in the Northern hemisphere and grew to love the more dramatic change in seasons there. Now that I am on the other side of the world for a year, I keep finding myself frustrated with the ‘flip-flop’ of the weather within supposed ‘seasons’. I’m realising how much I appreciate the variety the northern climates afford.

I really like to sleep in when possible, but I also like to start the day early and get the things done, so I have more free time in the evening. Sometimes I prefer to stay up late and do my things when everyone is at sleep and the house quiet.

I am definitely a night person. I hate mornings or waking up for that matter lol. I have done my share of flip-flopping. I used to get up early and stay up cleaning but as the years have gone by I am back to being a night owl. I love your quotes, especially Tupacs!

Love the quote of Stephen Richards. I am not a morning person and I am more active at night especially when working (online jobs). I can’t concentrate at work when I start it very early in the morning and you can’t talk to me properly at morning too haha. It’s true that we can do a lot of things when we start it early but for me maybe it depends on what to do, where to go and so on.

I’m a night owl but I need to be up early because of my preschooler. So, I do my best to have a good balance these days. If I stay up late at night, it’s due to spending time with my husband (either to watch a show or play some board games together).

  30. 07/05/2015 3:17 am

Erm~~~ I am both. Sometimes I sleep early but sometimes late~ Huh?! Any category in between?

    • 08/05/2015 8:27 am

I’m more of a night person, but I don’t know if I agree with Elie Wiesel about the night being purer or more true. I am in the process of converting into a morning person which is better for my health. Sleep at night does wonders to one’s brain, sleeping in the morning cannot compare. Goodluck to me on making the change! Haha.

All the while I love enjoy sleeping late in the morning but after my kids started with school I have become a morning person otherwise you will find the work is never ending and everythjng is left here and there. If you are an early riser you get enough of the day I really mean a long day.
