Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

13/04/2015

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” George Bernard Shaw

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it. Kevyn Aucoin

What do mistakes mean to you? If you read last week’s Motivation Monday post, you’d remember that the man with a headache was suffering because he was not only judgmental of others but, he also had his sanctimonious halo tightly screwed to his head. Unless you are like my tight halo wearer, you’ve had your share of mistakes; some of them you might have repeated quite a few times until the lesson and message dug deep into your bones and finally registered in your psyche. If we would stop and give ourselves a break, we’d recognize that the cliché – to err is human, to forgive is divine – carries some gravitas and reminds us that our frailties don’t define us.

“If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.” John Wooden

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know that everything in life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Have you ever made a mistake in your life? So you dropped the ball again? So what are you going to do to correct it? You are not alone. many famous/successful people failed before reaching their goals; here are 15 famous folks who failed. I hope it calms your spirit. Imagine the lessons they learned and then imagine the opposite. Would you rather lead a life so rigid and devoid of adventure that you have no dreams or far-reaching goals because, heck, you’re worried about making a mistake? Mistakes are miracles serving as lessons. If you walk away with anything for this post, please keep that in mind.  I have given the word an acronym to help us recognize the grace in it. Acronym: Miracles In Service To Attract Key Experiences And Soul-work. When we experience a major moment of failure in life, like author Stephen King and 22 others, instead of beating ourselves up, we need to take some time to reflect on where we went wrong, learn from the experience, do the soul-searching  and move forward.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” Scott Adams

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

On one hand, we know that everything happens for a reason, and there are no mistakes or coincidences. On the other hand, we learn that we can never give up, knowing that with the right tools and energy, we can reverse any decree or karma. So, which is it? Let the Light decide, or never give up? The answer is: both. Yehuda Berg

Do you know some creative works had mistakes in them? Did you know that these 50 famous people failed before learning from their mistakes and coming back stronger than ever? Above and below are some fantastic pieces of artwork that are believed to have content that are viewed as perhaps done in error. Can you tell what they are in the photos?  Look closely.  If not, come back later for the answers. The point is that we can enjoy life and still know that there are moments when we fall short. Of course, I am not saying that we must thrive on our mistakes. Frankly, some mistakes have cost lives so this post is not to gloat over our errors, but to encourage us all to learn from them and correct our actions. If we commit an error intentionally, it is not a mistake but a CRIME. Know the difference! The mistakes referenced here are those we commit without intent to hurt or harm or dupe others. They are what we often call innocent mistakes or acts of overwhelm; not intentional criminal behavior.

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

Motivation Mondays: MISTAKES!

If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit. William J. Clinton

What was the biggest mistake you ever made? What did you learn from it? Keep in mind that some of the greatest inventions were created by mistakes and that we can be rest assured that our journey through life will have its share of them. Mistakes help us form a stringer backbone and make us recognize that we can do better.  Like Pres Clinton said above, never quit from your goals. Forgive yourself, forgive others and grow from the experience. Keep moving forward and do your best to do good.  If you fail or fall, learn from it and pick your self up. We all fail and get back up. You are not alone.

Positive Motivation Tip: Be at peace with the mistakes that make up your life story. We all have them. Mistakes help us grow.

As a (recovering) perfectionist it as taken me a long time to accept that even I make mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn and grow, just as you say. Those made in good faith are just part of life and they can be opportunities. Thanks as always for an inspiring and reassuring post.

Thank you too! I used to be a perfectionist and found it so debilitating that I swung to the other extreme… Balance is key. Mistakes help us learn and grow. I concur.

Awesome post. I’ve always said that the #1 key to success is being able to make mistakes and come back stronger. Also, I learned from skiing that making mistakes means you’re growing. If you’re not falling, that means you’re not pushing yourself, which means you can’t be getting any better.

I feel like this is a place where I can be completely honest…
If I do that, I”ll readily admit that, whenever I come here, I think to myself, “What the hell does anyone need motivation for? Just suck it up, live… tough it out” and yadayada. Then, to be honest again, I lap this stuff up like a junkie sucking coke off the back of a toilet LOL
Seriously though, I love this blog. I think it’s got to be one of my favourite. It’s not preachy, while still passing on wisdom. It’s not spammy and it’s just…
    Well, pretty damn great.
You do an excellent job and I appreciate your efforts. Sometimes, especially for people with a past like my own, these kinds of things can make all the difference… or reset things for the next day.

    My quote about mistakes…
View your life with KINDsight. Stop beating yourself up about your past, slapping your forehead and wondering what you were thinking. Instead, focus on what you were *learning*.

    Have a great week! 🙂

Alysia, THANK YOU! I held off publishing your post because I wanted to take time to digest the honest feedback and respond properly and with a grateful heart. You comment meant so much to me that I couldn’t help but shed a few tears of gratitude. When I started this blog, it was created as a way to motivate the real estate agents I worked with as Training Manager at Sotheby’s. I was the West Coast/Mountain Region regional training manager but, I trained agents/managers/staff all over the USA. My blog was created to encourage, inspire and give them a laugh or two. When the RE market crashed and our department got downsized. I moved back home to NY from California where I had been relocated for my job.

I decided to keep the blog, and to keep posting as a way to help others and myself stay motivated during a challenging economic time in the US. Here we are 6+ years later; the lessons continue and the struggles have changed but the spirit of encouragement remains. I write this blog not because I have all the answers but because, like everyone else, I need encouragement and to be refueled. It might seem ironic to some but, every teacher teaches what they need to learn more of and, by doing so, they grow along with others… I always say that if this blog helps even one person feel lifted, then I’ve done my job.

In life, we all need God’s grace and People’s grace… you are one of those angels who remind me that what I do matters. I thank you, I lift you up as you have lifted me up, and I pray that this little old blog continues to inspire, heal and help all/any who need their thirst quenched. I never share everything going on in my life but, let’s just say that this blog has been therapeutic for me too. Be blessed… <3
