One of the special gifts we receive at Easter is a spirit of renewal; it is a time of rebirth and an opportunity to start afresh again. I have always loved the idea of being resurrected to accomplish all the things we put aside. This year, in the spirit of Easter and Passover, let’s bless each other in peace and keep hope alive. We can all do our part. At Easter service today, our pastor encouraged everyone to take a quick selfie shot and share it with others on Facebook. It was a truly modern way to connect with many others by using the hashtag #HappyEaster!
Another special gift we receive at Easter is the joyful celebration of spending time and sharing an Easter meal with loved ones. This Easter, my aunt and two cousins joined us for a lovely meal. The last time I saw my aunt and one of my cousins was in 2001 when I took my kids home to visit our extended family in Nigeria. I met my other cousin, in person, for the first time on Easter Sunday. We ate, laughed, and shared many memories from the past and, in the same spirit of celebration, we renewed our familial connections. This special Easter memory will remain with me for years to come. Since I’m not a christian, I don’t view Easter as an important holiday as other people do. However, I do love the pagan aspects of this holiday involving fertility. I do believe fertility is really what makes the world go round, lol.
