Weekly Photo Challenge: BLUR

Most days it feels as if the world is whirling around me and I am standing still. In slow motion, I watch the colors blur; people and faces all become a massive wash.Sarah Kay

Sometimes we go through life in a bit of a fog. Everything seems blurry and distant, like a seat in the nose bleed section of a stadium. Then, in an instant, we have a moment of clarity, and all those blurry parts start to make sense. I usually delete blurry photos until I started seeing them on TV commercials as a way to revisit the past. I have shared a bunch here. Most were taken at a number of concerts I attended in the last couple of years. The life shorts are self-explanatory. By now, you know we have a cat and he loves the camera. I took the white crocus photos this morning… early signs of the still coming spring. Have a Happy Easter Weekend!  Enjoy!

I find that the best blurry shots come when we try to capture something or someone in motion. The flashing by is a moment for us to register the presence of said object in our mind and then, if we are lucky, capture it on our camera… If you notice that the photo at the lower left shows a man dancing on his head… Yep, he was doing his thang at a concert and we all loved it.  John Legend is behind those glaring lights, and Janet Jackson and Sade are above.

In my work, I construct texts and images. Between those two points the blur occurs. Each is altered by the other again and again, back and forth. Taryn Simon

All your life, you live so close to truth, it becomes a permanent blur in the corner of your eye. And when something nudges it into outline, it is like being ambushed by a grotesque. Tom Stoppard

I was at a FAME concert and if you recall, I used a frame from it in my Ephemeral post. It was a Chris Brown Concert and it was fantastic. I have much better shots of all these concerts as I tend to get tickets as close up as can be. So these are the blurry shots deliberately used for this post on Blur… No worries. Chris is singing to his fans, up close.  Sade is doing her routine with her singers above, and below we have Kanye and Jayzee on the left and Mz. Jackson on the right. The nature shots are clear. The art shot with part of a face is one of my favorites and a spontaneous moment. TY!

My poor vision gives me a soft-focus morning. For the first half hour, I kind of wander through my house, and everything is a blur. I put my contacts in when I’m ready to deal with the world. Carrie Ann Inaba

I hope you enjoyed your visit. In the blurry shots above are Chris, Janet, Kanye, Jayzee and the lower left shot is Tyga. Yep, he raps too. Haha! Do you save blurry photos or do you delete them? Why? Let me know. Have a Happy Easter Weekend!

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme below.

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: BLUR  This week, share a photo that’s a blur. You could keep your camera out of focus to achieve a blurry photo, or take a photo of something in motion. Or go in a different direction — capture an image of an experience that would otherwise be a blur, or of something in a state of flux.

Positive Motivation Tip:  Even in the foggy blur of daily living, there are sparks of clarity. Go there and refresh yourself.

Those pictures are wonderful. I really like the close up shot of the flower. It’s so crisp in the foreground. It really pops.

  2. 03/04/2015 4:20 pm

It depends. If the blurry shots are showing motion or are a part of my story, then yes I keep it! Or if it’s just one of those once in a lifetime photos!

I hear you. I still delete shits but also do the same thing as you and keep a shit with memories. Sometimes, I might just forget to delete a poor shot.

I would like to join on this photo challenge meme. I used to do this before and I’d like to do it again. Love those blurry photos.

I save a lot of my pictures… although my camera is pretty awesome now, so not too many blurry. My daughter, however, takes awesome photos- most blurry- and I keep them because I love seeing the world through her eyes.

There are professional photographers who like to take blurry shots as an artform. Some look quite beautiful and wistful. Mine are not intentional but I’ve taken some that I like and keep for sentimental value. Blur has less to do with the type of camera used and more to do with how we focus our lens. Some of my best blurred shots were captured by my dslr.I find that I take more blurry shots when I’m not wearing my glasses or if my hand moved or if the person or item moved. 🙂

My husband loves to take blurry images. Especially of cars and trains. They look awesome!

    • 04/04/2015 5:36 am

Really? That is so interesting. I don’t take them intentionally and usually delete them. But sometimes, I keep a blurred shot because of the memory attached or because it looks good to me.

  6. 03/04/2015 11:40 pm

Well it’s still early so my mind is a bit blurred but they look pretty good to me.

My blurry days are those times when I detach myself from the world to think and sometimes, it’s solely for the purpose of wanting some solitude. And as with photos, blurred pics aren’t the usual stuff so it makes one stop for a while to look closely to take better appreciation of the image.

blur is beautiful. Sometimes you need to intentionally make the photo out of focus to give some umphhh to it. It is even more dramatic. I love the photos you shared here.

I’m the worst for blurry photos. But, like you said when I’m not trying it happens and often looks amazing. Other times I’m trying to get a perfect shot with no blur and oops there it is! I love the flower shot!

First off the quotes by Frans de Waal – and Tom Stoppard is reality and at the same time spiritual – beautiful shots – making you take the time to to see – very cool ‘blur’ post

This is an interesting photo challenge. It is hard to shoot moving people, let it alone people on a stage

  19. 04/04/2015 10:49 am

Speaking in life terms…I am at the stage in my life right now where I cannot help but wonder why it takes so long to get the blur lenses off!! Life would be so much easier if we saw things with clarity far earlier than we sometimes do.

This is an awesome post indeed. I guess what I got from it was the analogy from the blurred pictures meaning happenings in our life to the beautiful clear pictures meaning great beautiful happenings in our life. I love this indeed. We just have to see the big picture. Thanks for sharing.

I commented before but I’m not sure where it went, so please excuse if this is a duplicate. I do love your positive motivation tip. I sometimes feel that my life is a blur and that I’m confused and unfocused, but I’m sure that there are some moments of clarity that I’m just not taking the time to see. It’s amazing how a picture can say so much!

I like the idea of the blurry parts finally coming into focus. You give me something to appreciate in those “flawed” photographs. It’s a theme for me right now too because my blurry windows need to be replaced, and I am seeing it as a metaphor for renewed clarity of perception. Let’s hope all those loose ends finally do come together 🙂

I get pretty picky about pictures. Unless it looks cool and appeals to my artsy side, then it goes. However, blur looks good when you’ve got a focus image and the background is blurry too.
