Try The World: A Taste Of Paris

“Paris is the only city where you can step out of a railway station —and see, the Seine with its bridges and bookstalls, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Tuileries Gardens, the Place de la Concorde, the beginning of the Champs Elysees—what other city offers as much as you leave a train? “Margaret Anderson

Last October, I had the pleasure of sharing Try The World’s Holiday Box; it was a gastronomic adventure around the world. Today, I bring you the Paris Box filled with a delectable selection of sweet and savory treats. If you’ve been to Paris, you know that enjoying a meal or simply tea and desserts at a cafe is a popular pastime. The food in this month’s box will sweep you off your feet, and place you squarely in your favorite cafe. Open Try The World’s Paris box and escape to Café des 2 Moulins, Le Petit Château d’Eauin, or any of the many hidden little places in this romantic city with a well-known cafe culture. So as the Parisian would say, Bon appétit. Mangez bien, riez souvent, aimez beaucoup. It means: “Eat well, laugh often, love abundantly.”

“Everything ends this way in France – everything. Weddings, christenings, duels, burials, swindlings, diplomatic affairs – everything is a pretext for a good dinner.” Jean Anouilh

“The last time I saw Paris, her heart was warm and gay,
I heard the laughter of her heart in every street café
The last time I saw Paris, her trees were dressed for spring,
And lovers walked beneath those trees and birds found songs to sing.” Oscar Hammerstein II, 1940

This month’s selection reminded me of a divine gourmet breakfast or brunch, for some, at a local cafe. My box had fine teas from Le Palais Des Thes,  a small jar of exquisite Minna organic jam made with clementines from Charles Antona, generous size of delicious Domaine Des Vignes Dijon Mustard, scrumptious La Mere Poulard sables/butter cookies, heavenly Clement Faugier Chestnut spread,  the exclusive Le Saunier De Camargue fleur de sel (artisanal salt), and mouth-watering Salted Butter Caramels from Brittany.  As can be expected, I tried the sables and a salted caramel and I can assure you that they were first-rate.

The delightful treats in the Paris box are not to be missed. What I love about Try The World (TTW), aside from the gourmet foods, is that they include a Culture Guide and postcard, in every box, explaining the origin and effort put into making each item. Did you know that Le Saunier De Camargue fleur de sel is a pink salt flat located in Camargue (French Mediterranean) and that the salty water is raked every single day of the year? Once crystallization is complete, harvesters (sauniers) collect the salt by hand. Every item in the box is carefully selected from some of the best food sources to be found in the region.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.” Virginia Woolf

I did not know this existed. We try to sample foods from a variety of countries. Unfortunately, we are limited in some areas. This would be an excellent way to sample new, fun foods. I am thinking it may be something I can do when I can put a bit extra aside each month.

The last time I went Paris was about few years ago but it was too rush and I don’t have a chance to really try out the Paris food. This set box has quite some interesting stuff in there and may satisfy some of my desire on Parisan taste.
