Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow – Center of a Sunflower

Yellow is commonly associated with gold, wealth, sunshine, reason, happiness, optimism and pleasure, but also with envy, jealousy and betrayal. It plays an important role in Asian culture, particularly in China… In Ancient Egypt, yellow was associated with gold, which was considered to be imperishable, eternal and indestructible. The skin and bones of the gods were believed to be made of gold. Yellow

Yellow is a color that warms my heart. Every season, starting in early spring, I look forward to the blossoming yellow blooms in my garden. Gardening has always been a huge part of my life. Part of my childhood years were spent in a household with a Mom who enjoyed gardening, raising small farm animals and bird watching/feeding. As far back as I can remember, I had a garden of sorts. When I moved to New York, I had indoor plants and window plants in the summer. While some people find gardening messy and buggy, I enjoy the connection to the earth and the calm it brings to my mind. Plus, I always look forward to seeing seeds germinate and grow into beautiful colorful flowers. Don’t you?  For this challenge, all I could see in my mind’s eye were bursts of  yellow flora and  I couldn’t resist the call to honor the many blooms from summers past.

Yellow is the color of sunshine. It’s associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy. Yellow is often associated with food. Yellow

As I read posts explaining the symbolic meaning of yellow, I couldn’t help but smile; especially reading the snippet above about the joy and sunshine the color evokes.  There is something uplifting about that shade and even though we tend to look at lemons as bitter and a symbol of hard-times and bad cars,  the cheeriness of the color persists. After the color yellow, I love seeing red and white flowers in my garden and then everything else. Why? You might ask… It’s because I can see them from the street and bright flowers lift my spirit and make me smile. Enjoy the shots from my garden and from walks about town. I’ve shared many yellow flowers from my collection in the photos above and below. Stay a while and share your favorite color and flower.

Within the meaning of colors, yellow is the great communicator and loves to talk. Yellow is the color of the networker and the journalist, all working and communicating on a mental level. Yellow is the scientist, constantly analyzing, looking at both sides before making a decision; methodical and decisive. Yellow is the entertainer, the comic, the clown. Yellow

One thing I love about Wisteria is that it augurs the coming of spring. The early crocus flowers show their heads towards the end of winter, and daffodils bow and wave at us not long after. Wisteria announces its spring song by blooming its huge, shrubby heart out.  I love looking out the kitchen and living room windows in the spring because of the abundance of bright yellow colors.  As summer winds down, the front yard becomes a verdant oasis of vinca vine (periwinkle) that holds steady till spring. Somewhere between fall and spring,  dead brown leaves add a strong hue of earth brown to the mix.  I see them everywhere now and look forward to the colors of spring. What about you?  Oh yes, and about that yellow Motorcycle story, you can read about it here: Delivering Happiness.

Happy Holidays!

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. Check out how others interpreted the theme below.

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Yellow This week, away with the colors of Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. Show us what “yellow” means to you.

Positive Motivation Tip: Yellow is the color of sunshine and many other symbols and meanings mentioned above. Find your positive yellow side and sprinkle it around the world

Isn’t it amazing how colors have their own psychological explanations and impacts to human behavior and thinking? I’ve studied the color yellow for our branding subject and why and when it should be used.

Yellow was my favorite before but I think, because I’ve grown up, I’m more into the darker shades. Yellow, for me, fits children more or younger individuals.

Can you believe that in my country some people still avoid giving yellow flowers as a present because yellow roses were considered as flowers of hatred in the past! As for me, I love yellow roses and sunflowers and often buy them from the market, just for my own pleasure.

I love yellow.. There are songs about yellow too

  56. 26/12/2014 12:13 pm

More than a very summer and sunshine-y color, yellow reminds me of one of my country’s former presidents, Corazon Aquino. She gave freedom and unity this new color when she became our president after the People Power movement in 1986.

  57. 26/12/2014 6:12 pm

Color has its own value, its own meaning to one’s personality. For the artist, yellow may mean different thing to the psychologist. Others could appreciate it. But there are some who couldn’t do that for they’re color blind. Personally, I like yellow for it perks up my life. It is like a hope that shines on me while I am in distress. However, I seldom wear yellow color dress for I have a brown complexion. And it seems non-match to me.

  58. 26/12/2014 7:23 pm

I love the emotional reaction of the colour yellow, but I must say the colour itself is not very pleasant to my eyes when it comes to “men made products”. I do love the sun, the colour yellow in the nature but not on walls or furniture.
