Photo 101- Week 1: Home… A Farm home

To kick off this course, let’s introduce ourselves, share an image that means home, and get to know our cameras.

Day 1 – HOME :  I joined the photo a day project that WordPress Daily Post staff are running. Since I’ll probably do mine once or twice a week, I’ll add the necessary photos. Enjoy my contributions. I chose these two photos for home because they represent things that I see in our village. The flowers bloom everywhere during spring and summer as most people have little or large gardens. There are even wildflowers on the aqueduct; our favorite walking path. I also like that farm-house because it has things I like, water, a small farm and domesticated animals, greenery, and a welcoming shade of burgundy. Do join in. Th course runs from November 3-28.

Today, capture an establishing shot of a street scene in your neighborhood — or someplace new.

Day 2 – STREET:   This street scene was taken in France. I think it was either in Caen or Normandy. A few friends and I decided to catch the early morning market, so we could sample some of the cheeses and get fresh fruits and vegetables. We woke up early on a weekend morning, as planned, and headed off to go to the street market. It was early and some of the farmers were still setting up. We walked around taking photos. I took several street shots, but like the angle of this one. What do you think?

For day three, we want to see your interpretation of water — how might your image reveal more about you?

Day 3 – WATER  On a trip to Japan, we took several tours. One was to Hakone, and it included a ride in an elevated cable car. The landscape was breathtaking and this glimpse of water in a lake is just a sliver of a huge body of water. We need water to bathe, drink, clean, heal and survive. Without it, our crops won’t grow and everything will wither away. Water is truly one of the most precious gifts we have on earth; after life and air. We must protect our water systems from pollution. Start today!

Photo 101- Week 1: Bliss… If you’re brave enough, blissfully take a nap/snooze on a public bench

Ah, bliss. What does this word mean or look like to you?

Day 4 – BLISS When I was trying to find the ideal picture for bliss, the thought that kept popping in my head was sleep and getting enough rest. In this instance, the man with an interesting tattoo on his arm was sleeping next to a wall. Behind the wall is Central Park, NY. A few blocks away is The Metropolitan Museum. Yes, you can do this on 5th Avenue in New York but I wouldn’t recommend making a habit of it.

Capture a snapshot that conveys the state of being alone.

Day 5 – SOLITUDE Even though Wall Street is known for its busy streets and energetic traders, it does have a few places of respite. One place where you can find some peace and solitude is at Trinity Church.. It has a backyard garden/cemetery, and nooks and crannies where you can hide away. I stumbled upon this young man as I sought a quiet spot for myself.
