Weekly Photo Challenge: Three Is a Trend…

When I read this week’s challenge, the first thing that crossed my mind was the Holy Trinity and the power that is invested in that triangle. As I was thinking of what to feature, I started looking through my pictures and noticed that for New York Fashion Week, which ended on the 18th, the number three was heavily featured. Why? When I started looking into the number three, I found some fascinating data that tied in nicely with the exuberance and creativity expressed in the fashion design world.

On one numerology site, having a three vibration is described as:”A powerful need to express feelings, ideas and visions of the imagination, coupled with an extroverted personality, makes it likely that a person with 3s in key points of their Numerology chart will seek a career in art, especially the verbal arts.” If the number is tied to the creative mind, what internal triggers activate that creative impulse? Can we tap into this power if we are not a three?  I’d like to know.

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Robert Frost

Another site shared that “People influenced by this third number will be outgoing, friendly, and will shine in the limelight … The Number 3 encourages people to think in creative and versatile ways.” So it makes perfect sense that the organizers of NY Fashion Week, a huge creative event,  would play on the number as a focus for the 2014 fashion seasons. But does this creativity  feed into other areas of our lives? A friend mentioned that it is a lucky number tied into gambling wins and god fortune.  Interesting.  What do you think?

What other triangles come to mind? When we think of the seat of our government, we see that the Federal Government is made up of three branches: the legislative, executive and judicial arms… so there is something to be said for the number three. What can you think of that operates in threes? If you believe in numerology or the Holy Trinity, or even the power of Triangles, it would be worth exploring it further. I’m not trying to be esoteric. I’m just curious about an important number. I will investigate further and update up. Meanwhile, enjoy my photos taken at the opening (last summer) of PUNK:Chaos to Couture at the Metropolitan Museum. Do come back for more!

“Never forget the three powerful resources you always have available to you: love, prayer, and forgiveness.” H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

What powerful elements or stories in threes come to mind when you think this topic? Do you have one to share?  Do let me know in a comment below.Thank you EVERYONE!

This post was inspired by a prompt from Weekly Photo Challenge: Threes
In a nutshell, a three-picture story is a way to help you think about storytelling with images. To create a three-picture story, gather: An establishing shot: a broad photo of your subject.
A relationship: two elements interacting with one another.
A detail: a close-up of one part of your subject.
You don’t necessarily have to take your photos with this in mind — you can simply use it as a guideline for choosing three photos you’ve already taken, or try cropping photos to focus on the key details. IN A NEW POST PUBLISHED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE “THREE.”

Positive Motivation Tip:  All the best things come in threes… I was told it starts with the Holy Trinity and then,  it extends beyond it to other aspects of our lives.

I love how your post always make me think about things I have never thought about before. As I think of three it made me think how it takes a third person to break a tie in a decision.

You’re right – things do come in threes. But it’s weird, I only seem to think that when something bad happens – never anything good.

  3. 21/02/2014 6:29 pm

I tend to notice all of the bad things that happen in 3s. I do love your photos, though. 🙂

I always take it as a sign when I hear the same thing from 3 different people. Love all your quotes on threes!

Oh wow, that’s cute. I love the 3’s … I have 3 kids does that count as everything in 3’s? LOL

  13. 22/02/2014 7:19 am

Well, now that’s just really cool. The number 3 is actually my favorite number – but I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. I do love to refinish furniture and things like that. I guess you could consider that a form of art. 😀

  14. 22/02/2014 7:52 am

I’ve noticed that 3’s in photography really look great, too. I try to use 3 of things when shooting food images, for example.

  15. 22/02/2014 8:28 am

I always think of negative with ‘it happens in threes’ but of course that’s not only the case. Now I’ll think of good when I hear the phrase, ‘it comes in 3s.’ 🙂

  16. 22/02/2014 9:32 am

I’ve never heard about the power of 3! Thanks for sharing!

lots of classic children’s stories incorporate threes into them as well. kind of fascinating when you really start to look at 3s in our culture and society

I always say third time is a charm! My family has taught me that you gotta learn and normally by the 3rd time you got it down! So I completely agree with you!

That Robert Frost quote has always been one of my favorites. No matter what, life goes on!

Interesting article! I’ve always loved the number 3 so maybe that has something special to it! 🙂

I can’t of anything that came threes lately. Maybe my shutter clicks of my camera, haha!

  22. 22/02/2014 3:17 pm

I love the pictures. For 3s in my family it comes in either bad things, babies or death.

  23. 22/02/2014 5:49 pm

In our family, babies seem to come in 3s. Love all your pictures and thoughts 🙂

We’ve always joked that bad things come in three. Then we count and say “Well, that was 3 so something awesome is coming next!”

I had an aunt that always said things came in threes. She used to always be referring to something bad or deaths, though. Eek.
