Kiss For Peace: For World Peace Day, Make Love Not War
A few days ago, while I was surfing the Twittersphere and re-tweeting posts for blog friends, I took a quick glance at my sidebar to see what was trending. The hashtag #KISSFORPEACE was trending and I clicked on it to learn more. What caught my attention was the message from AXE Peace™  to Make Love Not War. They were inviting everyone to join in and submit photos of ourselves kissing for peace. How? Upload a photo of yourself/others kissing to Twitter with the hashtag – #KISSFORPEACE.  (more detailed instructions below)  If you’re lucky, you might end up on that big Times Square screen above. Yep!

It turns out that the fine folk at AXE Peace™  are collaborating with Peace One Day.org to make sure that World Peace Day, scheduled for September 21st, will reach as many people as possible. They want everyone to rally for love not war. The idea of getting people to think about love instead of war is an exciting prospect and an option we don’t always choose. What makes this particularly exciting? AXE Peace™ is going to select a few pictures from those uploaded and post them on a billboard in Times Square. Yes, you could have your 15 minutes on a gigantic Times Square billboard … all for a great cause – World Peace. Keep reading as I’ll share the instructions below.

Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one. John Lennon

Peace One Day in Three Minutes

Axe.com: Make Love Not War

How did World Peace Day come about? In the late 1990s, actor/filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, became preoccupied with the subject of peace and wanted to explore the many questions he had about it and its impact on humanity.  He decided to make a documentary to complement his campaign to establish an annual day dedicated to ceasefire and non-violence; essentially he wanted to dedicate a Global ceasefire/ No War Day. It would be a day of no wars. To further his cause, he founded Peace One Day, in 1999, and continued to share his message of peace with leaders and ordinary people around the world. By 2001, the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – {as} Peace Day.  Jeremy Gilley’s dream of having Peace One Day champion an annual day of global ceasefire had come true.

This year, Axe.com’s campaign: Make Love Not War,  in collaboration with Jeremy’s organization, plans to get more people engaged in the subject. The campaign idea of kissing for peace is catching fire as many people are participating and uploading their photos on Twitter. Better yet, the additional idea of possibly being featured on a Times Sq NY Billboard is exciting for a lot of people; including yours truly. Would you like to participate? How can you join the fun?  The instructions are below.

Who Will You Make Peace With?

I love  that we can have a day dedicated to changing how we think and act around the subject of war. As a war survivor, I loathe the idea that some see war as anything but destructive to both the victors and the losers. According to Jeremy Gilley’s website, Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalize Peace Day 21 September, making it a day that is self-sustaining, an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known.  Frankly, I’m 100%  in support of any effort to bring about peace and global cooperation, and I look forward to more campaigns that end other global atrocities. Now, who would object to that?

Positive Motivation Tip: If making love will end the vicious wars fought around the world, there is hope for our planet. Make love not war. Seek peace not war. Spread peace not hate.

Honestly, this day in age, I don’t understand why we can’t all just agree to disagree and carry on about our business.

Make love not war…forever my mantra.:) Thanks for a wonderful post, Eliz…I will share it along! I enjoyed all of the great quotes you included. What is so sad is that visionaries have been saying this FOREVER…but we are multifaceted beings…and ego is hard to defeat.:)

i wish people would spend more time thinking of fun ways to promote peace and less time arguing and fighting. this is a pretty cool campaign, though i’m not surprised- axe as a brand seems to be pretty cool overall. and they make products that smell awesome.

  33. 07/02/2014 6:13 am

What a great concept! I hope a lot of people pay attention. Unfortunately , a lot of people are very hard headed and can only see what they want and believe they are correct no matter what!

  34. 07/02/2014 7:18 am

seems fun, although kissing strangers would be weird! I am all for a smiles campaign though.

  35. 07/02/2014 5:48 pm

This is a nice campaign. Will you be sending a photo, Eliz? Don’t forget to share it with us.

  36. 08/02/2014 1:42 am

I love it! I’m not really an axe fan, but after their superbowl commercial and this campaign i’ve been pushing my husband a little bit more towards the axe aisle.

  37. 08/02/2014 10:40 am

KIss for Peace is a nice way of turning around a worse situation.

  38. 09/02/2014 2:53 am

Peace should start with ourselves. If we accept others’ differences and opinions, then there would be no arguments at all.

  39. 09/02/2014 3:46 am

Axe new campaign, kiss for peace is a nice idea… The love month is here. It’s good to spread love and peace.

  40. 09/02/2014 8:34 am

Kiss for peace LOL I’ll promote this campaign.

  41. 09/02/2014 1:44 pm

Axe’s make love not war ad campaign is so heartwarming not to mention that it was not so Axe.. hahaha

halfway the ad, I was expecting to see half naked man or that the shoulder would suddenly lift his shirt and all the people would smell his Axed body and the war will end..

We love AXE products 🙂 Though I’m not really sure that getting people to do kissing selfies will stop much violence, but I guess it’s worth a try!

  44. 09/02/2014 7:10 pm

I like this campaign. Any girl want to kiss with me? hahah (joke)
