Frankly, I find some of the challenges more difficult than others. Perhaps I over think it, don’t get it, resist it, fight it, or dog-ate-my-paper-it = make excuses for lingering over it. Maybe I get lost in the details because of the perennial student that lives in me. You know, the eternal student who dreams about running to a test in all 15 or so versions we’ve heard. But, I do meditate over them and ask for guidance to help me learn from the challenges. So this one is about the little things we miss or might miss in the big picture. The tangled branches above serve as a rest stop and hangout for the birds in our yard. I leave bits of bread on the balcony rail and they help themselves. That little Blue Jay is a regular. Even in our own tangled lives, there is always hope, always helping hands… a way out.

Yes Einstein, I agree but God is in the details too. Lately, I’ve been challenged and it’s the small gestures that have shored me up and kept hope alive. This blogging community has been a blessing and I thank you all. It’s easy to write great testimonials about profound changes and miracles that happened in our lives, but it is the daily miracles that keep us alive. The shots of the installation above were taken at Storm King. The huge black piece is by Chakaia Booker and is called Foci; the center of activity that interests us… It is made of tires and steel and while it looms over the terrain in a scary way, up close it has softness in the shredded tires. That softness is in us too. More below

Fire and water are important elements in life. We need both to keep us nourished, fed and cleansed. It is easy to get lost in the details of all the other demands on our lives and focus on things that have temporary outcomes. Fire, Water, and Air are fundamental to life. I like Fire Ceremonies because they are performed with positive intentions to benefit all mankind while focusing on the immediate, specific needs of those present. Water is a life line and I love being near it. If you look closely above, you will see three ducks in the water; a detail worth observing. Let’s acknowledge the little things that make our big picture whole. My prayers and good will go out to each of you and I’ll be grateful for same.  Have a light filled weekend. Thank you!

Once you’ve found a subject you want to photograph, challenge yourself to work a little further into the scene. Here, I use a landscape as an example, but this approach can be applied to other types of photography. In a new post specifically created for this challenge, share a picture that says Lost In the Details to you.

    It’s good to see the big picture the way it’s laid out on this post as well as the details. Good one, Eliz. On the either side of the detail as the saying goes “the devil is in the details.” When you are in the forest, lost, one cannot see the trees. 😛

    when I’m sitting near an open fire (or a simple candle) I always could lose myself in the details of the moving flames – even more than watching waves at the beach …

        indah in English means beautiful or lovely, and chiemay is from maya which can means illusions, but some said the meaning is richness.. 😀

    You did a great job with the challenge theme! The photos are great, too. When it comes to the natural world, I want to pay attention to the details. In the day-to-day sometimes I do better by blocking out some of the detail. LOL! It’s an interesting conversation! 🙂

    I believe that details come with an open mind. In your post, the pictures above are beautifully captured to bring clarity. Then as dearrosie stated, you brought the images closer to its whole – it’s detail! Really nice post!

    While I do not post everyday on my blogspot site I do attempt to give my full attention to something, a small verse everyday on my short verse site.

    Thank you for sharing your interesting photos. I thought the instillation with tires at first was a giant topiary.

    Good take on the theme, Eliz! Your first quote caught my attention. I recently heard a very similar quote, sometimes you need to “take care of the little things and then the big things will work themselves out.”

    I am totally wowed by this post, I had lost those three ducks, if it weren’t you pointing it out. Fire, water, earth and air are basic elements of life along with ether (ether is where the rest have come from), but losing their rightful importance and respect in the blind race towards modernism. beautiful thoughts and photographs.
