Reflections: Purposeful…

22/01/2013

“Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know that everything in life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from.” Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Reflections: Purposeful...

Reflections: Purposeful…

Most of us go through life wondering what our purpose is…
Maybe it’s to do A or accomplish B
What seems to be the overriding answer is to serve…
Whether we help others or ourselves, that matters…
Purpose…

Have you always had a sense of purpose? As a teen, even a sweet sixteen, it was the furthest thing from my mind. I just wanted freedom from parental control. Having fun with friends and throwing parties were our purpose. Recently, I purchased an updated/expanded version of the best selling book by Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I here For? I read it in a study group a few years ago and, this time around, I agreed to read it with a friend… It’s worth a read.

I’ve been mulling over a lot of the usual questions we ask when we reach an impasse in our lives, and some of the same answers arise.  Since 2013 kicked in, I’ve written daily small stones and today, I decided to share a few thoughts on “Purpose” above and below. Hope you enjoy them. What is your purpose?

More below!

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.” Carl Jung

Reflections: Purposeful...

Reflections: Purposeful…

Being mindful or purposeful takes determination
We resolve to follow a path or act on some pressing need
When I’m being purposeful, I feel quieter inside
The usual clamoring, worrying and yearnings subside
And for that period of focused learning, serving, kindling…
Another light goes on; gentle, soft, without fanfare…
Purpose…

What are you being called to focus on? A number of my blog friends have shared that the quiet voice within has beckoned them too and, like me, they too have been a tad absent. It is not to avoid any of our blog friends; we appreciate the community… It’s just that everyone needs time to regroup and rejuvenate, and we all do it at different times in our life. Please bear with us and with each other. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂 What are your views on this special occasion? Do Share!

Happy 2013! This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Daily Prompt: Sweet Sixteen   When you were 16, what did you think your life would look like? Does it look like that? Is that a good thing?

Positive Motivation Tip: We all have legacies to bequeath.. Let’s make sure it inspires and uplifts because we are committed to uplifting and inspiring others…

I have spent long hours pondering the question of my own purpose and love the absolving Kubler-Ross quote. I believe we do need to serve others as a basic foundation of human purpose. Figuring out how and whether we are doing a good job serving others is the hard part. 🙂

True Karen and it remains a question for many… Why am I here? I love Elisabeth’s explanation and the fact that service to others remains paramount in the quest to know our purpose. TY! 🙂

Each of us search for the way to build our inner core, and go beyond ourselves to reach out to others. It’s what makes us human and strong and vulnerable to life’s possibilities. Lovely post and well done.

TY Sally! True and It is a life time of working and searching but worth it. 🙂

I long ago stopped looking for MY purpose…I figure it is just to live and follow whatever direction my feet are pointing in

    • 27/01/2013 2:24 pm

That sounds great to me… Whatever we feel about our purpose is true for us. Good for you! 🙂 TY!

    • 26/01/2013 5:00 am

TY Tilly! Now if I could get my purpose on and catch up on everyone’s blog, that woudl be awesome. 🙂

      • 26/01/2013 6:29 am

The day that happens, I will know that every other blogger in the world has retired 🙂

        One thing I’ve learned about blogging – it’s never-ending 😀

      • 26/01/2013 6:37 am

It’s never ending but I have fallen off real deep. So Help Me God!

  11. 26/01/2013 10:13 am

My word for the year is presence. I am physically here but far away dreaming of something else. I guess it shows to those around me. Making a conscious effort to remain present is a great and difficult challenge.

    • 27/01/2013 2:15 pm

It is a great word for the year Miriam… Presence will be a wonderful way to refocus on what matters most to you. TY! 🙂

  12. 26/01/2013 1:59 pm

Love the quotes, but as far as purpose goes, I got nothin’! What I mean is, I’ve never put any name to it. I’m a mom, a wife, a friend, a woman, a teacher, a student, a daughter. I guess I have purpose, to those people in my life that need and love me. So, in turn that gives me purpose. Am I making any sense? I sure hope so. 😉

    • 27/01/2013 2:18 pm

Absolutely 100% making sense Gemma! Each of us has a purpose and it’s not the same. Being all those things you mentioned is purposeful and demands a lot emotionally. TY for bringing that important factor up! :-).

  13. 26/01/2013 4:17 pm

That’s a good question, Elizabeth. At sixteen or thereabouts, there were some things I “knew” about my life, some of which I’m living now.
For me, purpose changes at different stages of my life. I’m now trying to understand what the purpose is for this phase.

    • 27/01/2013 2:21 pm

TY Marcia and same here… When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a doctor. It was clear then but got foggy as I got older… The healer is a strong part of my purpose but it is unfolding in its own way not the way I imagined it… 🙂

  14. 28/01/2013 6:21 pm

OooOooh –I love that quote about kindling a light in the darkness

    • 28/01/2013 6:56 pm

Same here… 🙂 We all need some kindling. 😆 TY!

  15. 28/08/2015 11:09 pm

I absolutely LOVE the photos you decided to feature for this post. It is so incredibly important to have a purpose in everything you do.
