Martin Luther King – I Have a Dream Speech – August 28, 1963
Although his life was cut short (January 15, 1929—April 4, 1968), Dr Martin Luther King‘s legacy in the Civil Rights Movement and his impassioned speeches live on. One memorable day, on August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King gave his “I Have A Dream” Speech as part of his Address at the March on Washington in Washington, D.C. Little did he know that his inspiring message will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of people around the world. Dr King was a visionary, a man with great kismet, and his message in the Dream speech was a gift and a blessing to remind us all that we are one spirit… Today, I am grateful to honor his memory and legacy.

This is also a special day because President Obama was sworn in for his 2nd term as the leader of this great nation. He is a product of the dream and my prayer is that we all find it in our hearts to encourage and support others to pursue their dreams regardless of isms and barriers. We can be a light in someone’s life; especially someone from another ethnicity, religion or culture. Let’s do our bit for our community, Dr King’s legacy and build faith in the dream.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr Martin Luther King’s eloquence and great courage led a generation of oppressed people into a new dawn. We are all beneficiaries of his faith in the dream. What a morning it was! I listened to the president’s speech on the way to work this morning. I heard MLK. I heard Lincoln. I heard a call to action. I heard that although it is self-evident that we are all equal, it doesn’t mean it will Just happen. We have to work at it.
Well, I’ve rolled up my sleeves and I’m prepared to get workin’!
TY Dear one and it was all quite remarkable too… Yes, we do have to keep chipping away at the hatreds but we have overcome plenty… So upwards and onwards! 😉
Martin Luther King has always been one of my heroes, and reading this post reminded me why that is. What a wise and brave man he was

I couldn’t have written it better. I am reblogging your post to keep it as a memory as well as a reminder that “everyone is equal”. This weekend, I have also seen the movie “Lincoln” which is very timely for this celebration.

Tonight, as I was watching CNN about the inauguration, I heard one of the journalists mentioned the book “the power of now” by Eckhart Tolle. I had read this book some years ago and was a fan of his teaching. Indeed, President Obama, this is your NOW.
Yes… I like that connection with Eckhart’s book… The time is NOW.

I was so proud to be alive to see such important history unfold yesterday. My grandparents fought for such a day and although they couldn’t be here to see it with their eyes….they get to see it through mine! 🙂

Dr King’s speech always gives me goosebumps. What an incredible orator he was.

Although it was a sad occasion, I thought losing his grandmother just before the first election was a good sign. Being inaugurated on MLK’s holiday is like having things come full circle. The president’s definitely fulfilling his purpose!

Being a Danish citizen and lived most of my life in Denmark I had a dream as well. I was so sad to know that some has to be killed to get there where we are today.
