Generally, I don’t like surprises, but we all have to live through them… The thing about surprises is that you have no way of controlling or directing the unfolding drama/event/item and sometimes, they stink or are hurtful. However, an amusing surprise will always put a smile on our face.
Above, the L.L. Bean car, caught cruising on the Mass Turnpike (highway), made me laugh. It was shaped as their classic, all time favorite boot. The color, the trim, the look was perfect and a huge surprise.
One winter night, I was driving home from Upstate NY when I saw strange lights glowing in the woods. As I approached, they grew brighter, more colorful, and looked like floating saucers. I was surprised because they were in the middle of nowhere. Months later, I found out that the land belonged to an artist who liked to create unusual installations and display them… It was a conversation piece!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise… Hair and more
At a conference I attended early this year, I met the lovely lady above. As we chatted, she mentioned how long it took to wash/dry her hair. I thought the time-frame (3-4 hours) was outrageous; given that her hair was in a bun and didn’t look long enough… Well, she showed me why it took hours to wash. Her hair touched her feet when she unwrapped it. Another surprise!
At a concert, I was looking at the crowd milling around below, when I noticed that young man in a colorful wig and a white t-shirt/mask that covered his face. The surprise was how he could see or even breathe in that outfit.
The holograph is a three-dimensional image recorded by a camera on light-sensitive material. The one you see is of top British model, Kate Moss, floating like a blue ghost at the Alexander McQueen show. It was both surprising and bizarre. More below.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise! The NYC Rat and more…
The NYC rat caught me by surprise but was a perfect representation of the rodents running around the subways and the city. The feathered hats were at the McQueen event at The Met Museum, and one of them had eggs as part of the design. The last shot is my attempt to feature the headless Buddha at Storm King, an outdoor sculptural garden. It shows part of an Alexander Calder sculpture in red from the same place. Finally, the giant sewing pin is on 7th Avenue… all about sewing and fashion. What are your thoughts? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you!

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise. There was talk of some sort of apocalypse today, but so far, so good. Big surprise! In honor of the world continuing, show me some surprises! If you’re at a loss what to share, I bet many of you have surprises hidden under a tree or in a closet somewhere. My photo is about the first big snowfall which surprised us overnight here in Italy. I woke up to a world covered in white and these were my first steps into the snow. Share a picture which means SURPRISE to you!

I love good surprises! Love your photos.
I keep waiting to be surprised at spotting a bear on our property. Over the last few months I’ve seen signs of them and just yesterday I found a fresh track in the mud while walking the dogs. Will it be a good surpirse? Only if I glimpse him from a distance!

I love the car…I will never understand why someone would grow their hair THAT long just to put it up in a bun…and what a waste of time washing it. Loved the LL Bean boot! What a crowd stopper it would be! The driver would have no trouble ‘being seen’ on the road – he/she would have to wear a perpetual grin too!
Your other photos are lovely too. I too have long hair, but not that long and no way does it take that long to wash!

I’ve never seen the LLBean car but the Oscar Meyer weenie mobile made it through Reno before. I was totally surprised and delighted by it.

Wow, that woman’s hair is beautiful! I can totally see why it takes so long to work through – my teen has very similar hair actually, super thick and curly, and also quite long. It goes down to her waist – I can’t imagine the time and effort it would take if we let it grow longer!
